Live Thread: Cavs @ Raptors (#NorthernExposure)
2016-10-28On the same night that the Cleveland Indians play Game 3 of the World Series in Chicago against the Cubs, the Cavaliers head back to a familiar place north of the border for Game 2 of the regular season. At this point, you’d have to believe that the residents of Toronto, and fans of their sports teams are probably pretty sick of all things Cleveland related. After all, both basketball and baseball clubs used their corresponding representatives of The Six as a springboard to the Championship round of their respective sports. As seen above, Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan had front row seats to the latter after getting beaten on the court for the former back in May. Maybe the city should apply for an NFL team…
But, for all of the losing Toronto has done to Cleveland lately, Lowry thinks he might have figured out a plan to overcome the bullies from the South this season. After all, the Raps actually fared pretty well in the Air Canada Centre in the Eastern Conference Finals last year, winning Games 3 & 4 at home before finally succumbing in Game 6 in The Six. They also brought the fire to a pre-season game at the Q two weeks ago, when Lowry went off for 25 points in just 20 minutes of play. The game didn’t count, but the Raptors sure looked eager to deliver some payback to the Cavs.
The Raptors come off of their resounding victory over the Pistons in their Opening Night performance on Wednesday, where they blew out Detroit behind a 40 point explosion from DeRozan and a 32 point/11 rebound performance from Jonas Valanciunas. The Cavs, after a close first half against the Knicks, also scored a convincing 29 point laugher at New York’s expense. LeBron James notched the first Opening Night triple-double (19/14/11) since Jason Kidd had one to kick off the 2007 season, and the Cavs celebrated their “ring night” in style. With another strong rebounding night tonight, LBJ could potentially become the franchise all time leader (he needs 11 defensive boards to pass Big Z).
Toronto will be without Jared Sullinger (left foot surgery) and Delon Wright (right shoulder surgery), while Lucas Noguiera (sprained left ankle) is questionable. The Cavs should have both Iman Shumpert and Kay Felder (concussion protocol) back in action, but will be missing Channing Frye as he was excused from traveling with the team with the passing of his mother, Karen Mulzac-Frye, after a long battle with cancer (our thoughts and condolences go out to Channing and his family in this difficult time).
Raptors probable starting lineup: Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan, DeMarre Carroll, Pascal Siakam and Jonas Valanciunas. Cavs probable starting lineup: Kyrie Irving, JR Smith, LeBron James, Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson.
Gametime is 7pm EST, and the action will be televised on ESPN.
Prediction: Cavs overcome a slow start to bring another loss to The North, and eke this one out 104-101.
The Tribe might make it tough to tune in much for this one after the first quarter or so, but chime in as you can… and GO CAVS!
Such BS right here… What crap!
It’s either a foul or the game is over refs… c’mon…
DO NOT BELIEVE SHUMP IS THE ANSWER FOR OUR BACK UP PT GD —KNOW IT IS STILL EARLY BUT MY ACID REFLUX GOES UP ANYTIME HE DRIBBLES AND TRIES TO BE CREATIVE
LOL
That was on Carroll
Derozan’s play could’ve shifted full momentum in their favor if it’s against some other playoff team. But we’ve been there seen that. One thing I like about being champs
Completely agree!
Ball game!
CAVS BALL!
HA! Love that Lowry shoots it over the hoop trying to draw the foul…
Exactly, the refs know he is always looking to draw fools
JR with horrific D there. Made up for it with the triple.
Whoops. At bar. Guess it was ki.
Who knew Irving had it in him to make such a big three?
Bang. Dagger by MFQ.
Officials in both games trying to rob Cleveland
Seriously…
That DeRozan dunk was pretty fierce… but shocked they didn’t go to break on the Kyrie triple… whatever…

Finally hitting both.
KI hits it again !!!
Irving for 3!
BANG! KYRIE!!!
The Shot!!!
Ugh, could’ve been and-1
WhoooooooA
We’re slow on getting on our offense. Lebron make your freebies cmon
Huh 89-89… where have we seen this before?
Haha need the shot, the block, the D every game…
Don’t get Ky jacking it up there from beyond deep, but he’s hit it before… Nice tie up by Love!
First lead of the night for Raps…
I don’t understand Lue’s rotation tonight. Cavs lead gone
Missing Frye, no back up PG.
He’s playing it like a playoff game…
How can anyone say baseball is the most pure sport when the strike zone is up for discussion every game? These baseball purists are so full of it.
Need more of that two man game from LBJ and TT…

RAPTORS POUNDING US ON THE BOARDS 46 -34 —-16-14 ASSISTS/TO’S AND WE STILL HAVE THE LEAD
Hendricks has some nasty stuff
And this umpire has a strike zone like the side of a barn…
Pick and ROLLL
https://vine.co/v/5pmLzbZpelY
I hope that foul call makes LBJ angry…
Westbrook with what I believe will be a typical line for him this season in the half: 12 points, 7 reb, 8 ass, 4-16 shooting.
Bad switch leads to Lowry three point play…
Going smaaaaaall
One thing I’ve seen in the first two games of the season is that the Cavs are sharing the ball extremely well.
What was the point of getting Birdman if he’s not going to play? The Cavs don’t need shooting tonight with these two big guys playing for Toronto.
Kyrie DEADLY off the pick and pop…
KLove forgot to cut there…
ASSISTS TO T.O’S ( 14 -12 ) NOT REAL GOOD ——UNDERSTAND BOTH TEAMS ARE TRYING TO MAKE A POINT THIS GAME —BUT HEY IT IS ONLY THE 2ND GAME OF THE SEASON –WOULD LIKE TO SEE SOME OTHER PLAYERS GET SOME VALUABLE MINUTES JUST MY THOUGHT
Agreed!!
It’s just not that kind of game unfortunately… neither team wants to blink since they know they are 1-2 in the conference…

Such a great find and cut by Ky and Dunleavy…
Also Lowry looks 5 years older than last year in the first two games.
Joseph is doing a great job defending Kyrie.
Kyrie has to use the PnR better.
Our bench is looking its age tonight.
Bench not contributing much scoring other than Shump…
Cavs letting Joseph and Poltl beat them right now…
SHUMP for THREE!!
Shump at the point if extremely awful to watch lol
Shump just out of control…
Why does LBJ looks so uninterested tonight?
Is like the Cavs are just going thru the motions. Not the way they began the game.
Saving himself?
I know he does it a lot but tonight have been way too passive
Looks like Ty Lue is kind of olg school when it comes to using rookies/unproven players. We will live or die with a 9 man rotation again this year, it seems.
Shumpert
I though that Shumper could work at backup point guard because of the Cavs’ other creators. I was incorrect.
Need Mister Fourth Quarter to put these fools to bed

??
Wow… how did they let DeRozan get that off?
And WHAT a last shot! LBJ THREE!
Cavs will hold for last shot here…
Getting beat on the boards ny 9 so far
JV is always kind of a monster on the boards…
LUE NOT USING ‘ KILLER SHRIMP ‘ OR BIRDMAN
Lue saving Kyrie for the fourth…
AGREE WITH YOU EVIL ON LIGGINS
Cavs miss Frye. Wouldn’t mind seeing Dunleavy get some of RJ’s minutes when Rich is having a poor shooting night
Cavs have let DeRozan get hot…
I’d give Liggins some minutes out there…
Is Felder still on the protocol or is Lue not using him?
Lue not using him…
Lebron is in danger of losing his double digit scoring streak.
And then he shoots the technical free throw to keep the streak alive!
He’s at 9 points… I wouldn’t worry too much…
I need to chill out since it’s game two, but I still cringe whenever Shump has the ball.
Toronto is a tough match up for a guy not used to the position too… they play pretty aggressively on the ball…
Love is a different player this season. Love this version!
