Live Thread: Cavs @ Knicks
2017-02-04The Cavs are in the Madison Square Garden to take on the Knicks tonight in an NBA Saturday night national game. The King and friends will be looking to build off a solid 28 point win against the Timberwovles on Wednesday. 37 of their 48 made baskets were assisted on. The team moved the ball and looked like they enjoyed playing with one another for the first time in nearly a month.
In January, the Cavs went less than .500. They were just 2-5 on the road. Tonight kicks off a four game road trip and Cleveland should be looking to rebound. The Knicks are 4-6 in their last ten. They are facing some turmoil with Carmelo Anthony being on the trading block. Derrick Rose is also out for his fourth straight game. The Cavs are without J.R. Smith, who is still recovering from thumb surgery.
Thing To Watch
1. The Cavs need to remember that passing the ball is how they can really build a lead. Against the Wolves, they trusted the pass and things worked out. They didn’t build a huge lead until the third, but they didn’t resort to iso ball at any point.
2.They need to keep playing defense all night. This game is going to set the tone for their whole road trip.
3.Carmelo is angling for a trade, maybe even to Cleveland. Expect him to try and show the Cavalier brass why he’s worth bringing to the team. Kristaps Porzingis probably thought with Derrick Rose out he’d have a little bit of chance to show how effective he is in clutch time situations, that’s not happening tonight.
4.Porzingis is still a beast though and with Kevin Love out, Tristan Thompson is going to have to do his best to prevent him from getting easy put-back dunks, and from protecting the rim by being a pain to box out at all times.
The Cavs should pick up a win tonight, but I’m more interested in seeing if they do it with offense or defense. Cleveland 124-100.
*Kyrie Irving will miss the game because of right quad soreness. LeBron is on his own.
*Kevin Love is playing tonight. I misread the reports.
No stopping the King…
Korver with a couple misses from the corner.
Rare for Channing to miss two FTs…
Ten. Time for TT & Love.
Frye playing great past few games.
Korver struggling from that corner. James staying with him. Good.
FT issues resurface there.
It doesn’t seem he was passed the ball that much.
Korver Kounter is broke tonight
Harder for Jennings to hit threes with Shump guarding him…
Yeah. He did miss a couple open ones. He’s streaky.
Frye doing damage inside lol
Nice hook by Frye!
Did Lue forget about Tristan?? Liggins?
Should have been an and one for RJ…

Got the stop. Gave up the glass.
RJ! Great awareness!
We are soooo lucky he resigned!
Thanks to Lue the Knicks are back in the game. Criminal he left Felder in on Jennings
No excuse to do that
nice to see Korver take the tech.
Thank God Shump back in…
LBJ giving Felder filthy looks after that play. Doesn’t bode well for Shrimp’s future…
13 pts in two minutes from them.
Really starting to wonder about Lue’s intransigence on rotations and riding guys too long…
Need some defense now
Can someone please dwarf toss Felder back to the D league.
I’m sure steam is coming off Nate if he’s watching this….
LAzy pass and it cost the Cavs. Lue left Felder is way too long on that run
Freaking Kay getting destroyed by Jennings… PUT IN LIGGINS LUE!
Pretty tired of wide open looks for Jennings…
Jennings getting hot. Game on. Time for Liggins & Shump. 11 pt lead.

That’s a nice shirt
Korver for 3.
The L train blasts Jennings
Just beautiful. What a game for him tonight.
And One from the King…
And 1!!
Four at 10+. James & Love with 20+. TT & Frye at 10+. Everyone else at 5 or less.
Knicks look like they got some life back
Channing just when you need him…
Game on. 13 . Er, 16. with Frye.
Nobody covering Jennings…
Kyrie would love to! lol
The KShrimp turnover-fest allows an 11-0 Knicks run to close the third… pretty much ensuring we’ll see LBJ in the fourth…
Some passes to Love in the post would have been nice to close that quarter.
GUESS I SPOKE TOO SOON ABOUT RESTING THE STARTERS—–I WILL SHUT UP
Some ugly basketball from Felder there the last couple of minutes…
Lead down to 16. James has to play.
We coughed that up with James out. Well, some of it. Felder with some learning to do. Glad to see him getting the run, however.
And that’s why the Cavs need a playmaker I guess…
Felder a hot mess right now.
Felder struggling. We should play through Love with James out.
Or go back to Liggins at PG… he did well in the first quarter…
Yes agree!
They are targeting Felder early. He has to pass sooner
Kay got his pocket picked after some over dribble.
Kay looks a little less good this half…
Jennings wasn’t having any of that from KShrimp
1st bad play by Felder with that turnover
And as I type that he made his 2nd bad play
Cavs solid stopping dribble penetration tonight
NOW LET’S REST THE STARTERS
Jinxed ’em.
Pass to Casper… he’s always open A favorite line from Fred and AC
LOVE WITH A ” TRADE STATEMENT ” GAME TONIGHT —–HAS SQUASHED ALL LOVE FOR MELO TRADE RUMORS ( OR FOR THAT MATTER ANY RUMORS INVOLVING KEV)
Wow… Hernangomez should not handle the ball…
I did not know this…

KEVIN!
Melo is such a bad volume shooter at times…
Knicks bench looks devastated
Great game by Love tonight.
AGREE WITH YOU NATE ON STEPHENSON ( EVEN THOUGH FARMER MIGHT HAVE HAD A BETTER WORKOUT ) LANCE IS MORE VERSATILE / HAS AN EDGE/ CAN KEEP ” LEBRON COOLED OFF “
Yes he can be the edgy “Enforcer” we need!
Love with the dropsies all of a sudden.
Hornaceck is a good coach. But this is not a roster for him
LOL Interesting series of possessions
Well, that was a lucky bounce!
The Knicks are bad outside of Zinger.
And he’s just 1-5 with four boards…
Well, foul trouble tho
The force was not with Kylo that time…
Great ball movement gets Shump his first made three…
NIce 3 from Shump!
Wow that sequence that ended on a Shump 3!!!
