Live Thread: Nuggets @ Cavs
2017-02-11The Cavs are back home after a strong road trip where they went 3-1. Their only loss was against the Thunder, and it was the final game of the trip on the second night of a back-to-back. The big three looked completely gassed for long stretches, which ultimately caused them the game. Overall, the road trip was successful as Tryonn Lue got the offense moving the ball and looking for the wide open shot instead of contested ones after lots of dribbling.
In the past four games, the Cavs have shot a league leading 45.2% from deep landing 15.3 a night, which is also tops in the league. They’re have turned the ball over nearly 16 times a game though, which is a bottom ten number. If they clean up their carelessness with the ball, they’re going to become even more terrifying offensively.
The Nuggets are 3-3 in their last six and traveling to Cleveland after beating the Knicks just last night. Nikola Jokic carried them in New York scoring 40 points on 17-23 shooting to go with nine boards and five assists in  37 minutes.
Thing To Watch
1.Kevin Love, LeBron James, and Kyrie Irving are all tired, and it really showed in the fourth quarter against the Thunder. They couldn’t secure any stops or hold on to the ball, which resulted in them giving away the game. Hopefully, a full day off being back home will refresh these guys.
2.The Cavs have to try and put the Nuggets away early. Denver doesn’t have any true super stars, but they’re deep and slightly above average in almost all areas. Their primary bench guys are Jameer Nelson, Jusuf Nurkic, and Wilson Chandler. The Cavs would gladly take any of those guys. Denver’s depth has allowed them to have just one guy playing over 31 minutes, Danilo Gallinari. If the starters aren’t doing it tonight, Tyronn Lue should just let them rest instead of over extending them for a possible win.
3.Kevin Love needs to feast on Denver’s smallish front line. At some point Kenneth Faried or Nikola Jokic will be on him for extended stretches. Â Love should just over power Faried and out smart the sopomore Jokic. He’s also going to want to control the boards to keep Denver from having the chance to attack an unset Cavs defense.
4.Derrick Williams is playing his second game as a Cav after going 3-3 for 12 points, while playing really solid defense against the Thunder.
I’m picking the Cavs tonight, 123-113. They are really clicking, and they just need one guy to go off for the chance at a blow out with how efficient their baseline offense has been.
DeAndre Liggins is the starter at shooting guard as of 5:45 PM.
Danilo, Emmanuel Mudiay, and Kenneth Faried are out with injuries. The Nuggets bench will have significantly less depth.
Pretty close on that final score DW!
I wonder if the Cavs planned to keep DWilliams for the rest of the season or just until Shump gets better.
Hope they keep him to eat minutes backing up LBJ…
LIG!
Man March is a meat grinder of a schedule… Cavs with 23 of 31 days on the road…
5 b2bs. 12 of 17 roadies. It helps a lot we got some depth prior to it. Dunleavy into Korver & Mo into D-Will helps a ton. Getting Shump healhty will help. We can still get another player in Andersen’s spot.
Six back to backs actually… posted them yesterday
Kind of a quiet night for KLove, but he hit some threes…
Only 11 FGAs. Still, 16/9/5 on 5-11 (3-5 3PT). I’ll take that. Kyrie took 24 (10-24).
Nice win. Denver’s got a bright future. Lots of young talent.
They’ve had that for years though… Hopefully, Malone can get them going…
Yeah. Gallo, Faried, & Mudiay + that group. They can play. Tons of cap room.
They’ve been trying to move Faried though…
Jokic is going to be a handful, already is.
LeBron needs to play fewer minutes in the third when he’s going to start the fourth. His early fourth turnovers look like the result of fatigue.
Yikes… sounds like the first time LBJ came back to Cleveland in that 10-11 season…

43-26 in the 2nd quarter.
Looks like Miami’s streak is going to end tonight. In Philly of all places. With the Process out.
Did Dion play tho?
I heard TT studies post moves with Hakeem and Kyle O’Quinn in the offseason.
Well, we all know that Kylo is a Jedi master…
James out.
33 minutes… not too bad…
30 assist for Cavs… now tied in rebounds at 43…
Garbage time. Lebron +26, 11-16 from the floor, 12 assists, 25 points, I think we can forgive him for a few turnovers
27 points
He had half of his turnovers to start the fourth… he had already stuffed the stat sheet prior to that anyway…
Rest Lebron in the fourth and let Kyrie dribble through exhausted defenses. Jk
He got sloppy when we got the lead up. To start the 4th he had a flurry of them.
Not quite a Kraken… but awesome nonetheless…

This one is over. Smiles. TT & James have looked good at the line today.
TT abused Jokic that possession…
TT has worked so hard on his footwork. He is so fun.

Canadian Dynamite! with a tough man’s rebound and putback!
Love with 5 dimes now.
Kevin Love is light years better on defense than he was two years ago.
Jokic a relative non-factor this half…
BELIEVE IT WAS BLEACHER REPORT RAN AN ARTICLE THE OTHER DAY ON DWILL/ENCHILADA —–MENTIONED THA HE WAS A BASKETBALL ” NOMAD ” AT THE YOUNG AGE OF 25—-USING THE WORD ” NOMAD ” IN A VERY NEGATIVE / BERATING SENSE —WTF !!!!
I almost posted that when I saw it, but didn’t out of respect… ;)
KK has been amazing.
Korver is so nasty. Top 3 shooter in the league. At worst.
Korver is a ridiculous shooter. Just ridiculous. He’s no James Jones, but he’s really really good.
I see what you did. JFJ is standstill only. Korver is not.
There’s only one Champ…
LEAN-ZUS!
Please for the love of god, Sit LeBron for two minutes.
Would be nice if he could be under 35mins… (31 now)
You can just see it, though. He should sit from 7:00-5:00.
Honestly, he could have sat the first five minutes of the fourth with the double digit lead and come back if they needed him… his turnovers went a long way in letting the Nugs get back within 11 earlier…
I wish RJ would find his stroke. Still solid in the other aspects.
WOW… such a phantom foul… KK never touched him
Didn’t let him land. Technically a foul, but you hardly ever see that called when it’s that inconsequential.
Good shot Frye!
Frye looked like he was channeling JR on that shot of the dribble…
IF I TRIED THAT MOVE BY KY —THEY WOULD BE CALLING EMS/ 911 !!
Color me shocked that the whole, “Sign Derick Williams and play him at guard” thing is working.
Yeah. When Shump gets healthy, you won’t see it much.
I hope when Shump gets healthy, we see him more at the three backing up LBJ…
You can’t give either Korver or Frye space like that… just devastating…
And another. Six for James.
I think Bron has three TO’s this quarter alone…
EVEN ” AN OL MAN ” LIKE NOMAD CAN REMEMBER THAT—-EVIDENTLY TY CAN’T
We are getting sloppy here. 4 TOs in 3 minutes.

I can’t believe Andre Miller’s still playing here. Oh wait. They’re saying Jamal Murray.
Mike Miller.
Cut me some slack. I’m older than Andre.
LBJ dribbling off his foot again…
Not a lot of guys who can do this…

Remember when LBJ would sit to start fourth quarters… especially when Cavs had double digit leads?
Why would Denver put Juancho on an island with Bron?
Fab Melo passed away.
Bron and the ‘Cats start the quarter… (three Arizona Wildcats) Maybe it should be called the Wildcat Offense….
I still miss “Four men and a baby.
King, Korver, & Cats.

Nice!
See my Googol definition below…
I’m in!
Would love to see Bron get to take the fourth quarter off… Doubt it happens
Kev had made 24 straight FTs before that miss…
Every Cav is at least 50% from the field.
The Nuggets better have a Juancho Poncho giveaway night coming soon…
We want the…

The King looks spry tonight.
Liggins so good on both ends of the floor tonight. Getting these printed for the next time he’s inexplicably buried on the bench!

LeBron’s efficiency has been through the roof lately
WOW Bron! Crossover to the hoop!
Good rejection from Liggins there. 4 /5/5 with 3 steals & a rejection for Ligs so far.
