Live Thread: Cavs vs. Spurs
2018-02-25The Cavs took on San Antonio approximately one month ago and got Spurred pretty hard. I know, I know… the Sunday afternoon puns. Anyway, the Cavs barely had an answer for LaMarcus Aldridge, Kyle Anderson, Davis Bertans, Dejounte Murray as they collected 13 offensive rebounds and profited from the Cavaliers’ 19 turnovers. As we know, though, this isn’t the same Cavs team.
Key to this game will be controlling the Spurs on the boards, defending them inside, and stopping their key shooters (Bertans and Green). The Spurs are 3-7 in their last 10 games, and it’s reported that Kawhi Leonard may be out for the season as his strange injury lingers. They’ll also be without Manu Ginobili who’s out with a bruised sternum.
For my money, the Cavs will be fine if they limit the turnovers, defend, and don’t do dumb things on offense. I’d agree with Mike Schreiner’s assessment that Jordan Clarkson was a little shot happy and that the Cavs’ needed to work the offense a little more against the Grizzlies, especially when it came to getting Kyle Korver shots. Clarkson can get any shot he wants, but he tends to go 90 miles per hour and not use his speed as a change of pace in the half court. He also can be a black hole at times, and gets tunnel vision when there are guys open. You have to play on the edge to be a good offensive player, but if Clarkson can take 5 MPH off his fastball a-lá Sandy Koufax and play with just a little more control, he could be great offensive player, instead of just good.
Let’s hope this Cavs team has it in them to be great rather than good for this game and the rest of this season. Go Cavs.
If lebron had been born in San Antonio he’d have 10 rings.
I don’t think San Antonio was drafting very high in the early 2000’s.
Hire Stan Van Gundy. It is our only hope.
when is the buyout deadline—–who do you think cavs can / should target—–ilyasova candidate ?—he has mentioned cavs as a potential team ( along with raptors / bucks / 76er’s )—
He’s signing with the Sixers.
” draft pick night “–tues vs the nets —got to get a ‘w”—give them a “L” —-big game —go cavs !!
just caught a couple min – sounds like lue continues to play bad lineups. bummer
DIDN’T WATCH THE GAME (GRANDKIDS )–WAS THE OFFICIATING THAT BAD —32 FTA’S / SPURS —-14 FOR THE CAVS
I think the Purs got the better of it…that would be fair to say…
HAVE TO RETHINK MY 19-7 POST ALL STAR RECORD PREDICTION ——YES AGREE WITH YOU LEO ( SOMEWHAT ON THE CAVS SCHEDULE )–BIT DIDN’T THE SPURS PLAY ON FRI ALSO —-WHAT ABOUT HOOD FOR CEDI IN THE STARTING LINE UP ?
just because “L-JR ” STARTED TO WEAR HIS DAD’S “RETIRED NUMBER —-DOESN’T MEAN YOU “RETIRE ” –L-JR ——YES 15 MINUTES IS A JOKE !!!—–HOOD NEEDS MORE MINUTES / MORE TOUCHE / SHOTS / TOO GOOD NOT TO ALLOW THIS —-HAVEN’T BEEN ON TY’S CASE FOR AWHILE—BUT HE WAS OUTCOACHED BIG TIME TODAY !!!
Cavs had won 5/6 so no time to panic, i think playing 3 games in 4 days took some toll on the team, they looked more energized on Friday. Just think it was combo of bad shooting, some suspicious fouls, and Spurs playing really well from a lot of random dudes. There will be adjustments with new guys and it will be key to how this team responds over time.
One of those games where Spurs directed every Cavs weakness and got away with cavs missing lot of open shots both 3s and layups…smart play by them, Cavs could never adjust enough and felt their energy wasn’t matching Spurs. When Pau Gasol is going after rebounds multiple times, it may be time to reassess energy and effort on the floor. Expecting Lue to play Nance 25 min a game. TT was surprisingly solid this game, but any lack of offensive set with him on floor is still disturbing. At least nance has a threat to take an outside shot. Thought… Read more »
Wonder how long it will take Lue to start playing Nance more minutes every game…
Sometime next year.
eye test showed this clearly and nance was huge pushing the ball and passing. no idea what lue was doing
The whole second half they didn’t run any sets or plays bunch of iso
Pretty sure, as reported in multiple media sources, that the team is limited by what can be run… new guys forgot plays over the all-star break, and probably didn’t practice in between Friday and today…
Lue no clue how to adjust
I think they may have been tired tonight, after 3 games in 4 nights.
Would be a good reason to not play the same 5 the entire last 9 minutes of the game, or however long it was…
