Live Thread: Cavs vs. Nets (#PickItUp)

Okay, this is going to be short and sweet because it’s going on midnight here in London and I’ve got an early plane to catch tomorrow…
Tonight, the Cavaliers play one of their more important games left on the schedule… not just because they need every win they can get for playoff positioning as the team’s new pieces continue the gelling process… but also because they’re facing the Brooklyn Nets. In case you’ve forgotten, the Cavs now own the much ballyhooed Nets pick (Nate’s even got a name for it, but I can’t remember with the late hour), so every loss dealt to Brooklyn increases the chances of getting more ping pong balls in this summer’s draft.
This game should be essentially found money for Cleveland, as they should be able to pick their collective game up (especially from three point land) and handle the surprisingly feisty Nets at the Q. Of course, nothing ever seems to go like we think it will in this Season of Why? So, expect a tough battle… even though Brooklyn is on the second night of a midwest back-to-back (they beat the Bulls last night to get to 20 wins on the season). One player update of note… Jeff Green will apparently sit out with lower back soreness… so no Uncle Jeff at the 5 tonight.
Prediction: The Cavs don’t allow the Nets to hit 21, as they pick up the victory… but maybe only win by a penny… 119-118.

the fact that was as close as it was, pretty embarrassing to be kind….this team can’t settle for Love to get back, they have to get back to dominating ways….defense was abysmal across the board…free throws were just as bad….gotta crush these types of teams

Ridiculous game from Lebron tonight, too, obviously…lot of effort. I don’t really understand why it should take that to beat the Nets, though.

The Nets try for 48 minutes. We do not. That is why it was close.
This isn’t 2004. You can’t have specialty players on the floor who just do dirty worker, while relying on your stars to get buckets. Everyone needs to be a two-way player, everyone needs to be an offensive threat as well as hold up defensively. TT’s gotta go.

If we “hypothetically” get Anthony Davis, someone should purchase billboard space in Philly showing LeBron’s new starting lineup… in Cleveland!
I think the Davis deal is basically done now…just working on the details…
The defense is so much better with Nance…he needs to control his fouls, but god, it’s almost night and day…

If it’s top 3, and the Pels don’t make the playoffs, they may want to rebuild.
Not for Davis. He still has years on his contract. Unlikely anyone (by pure odds) up to Davis production. He is a top five player. It would likely have to be nets pick and love. Also pels have won 6 in a row.

No guarantee that gets him to the Cavs though. Boston wasn’t one of Kyrie’s destinations.
No way is AD top 5. Bron, KD, Curry, Harden. For certain. Russ can at least get you to the POs. CP3. Giannis. Healthy Kawhi.
That is eight. AD’s ceiling is #9. I think those 8 are franchise guys. I put AD closer to the Kyrie, Boogie, Butler, PG13, DeRozan, Lillard group than the top tier.
