Live Thread: Cavs @ Nets (#LotteryLuck)
2018-03-25The Cavs have a chance to double their good fortune today in Brooklyn when they take on the Nets. Not only can they continue to build their own chemistry with their increasing numbers… but they can also help add to the number of ping pong balls they might receive in this summer’s draft lottery.
The odds of winning shouldn’t be that hard, given the disparity of talent available between these two teams… yet, the Cavs already handed the Nets one of their 23 wins almost exactly five months ago. It was against a much different looking Cleveland squad for sure… but even the other two meetings were closer than they probably should have been. That’s because, despite their own injury issues, the Nets have scratched their way to a lot more victories then many expected. They’ve found some useful pieces in guys like Spencer Dinwiddie, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Caris LeVert. Also, D’Angelo Russell is back and putting up solid numbers. Brooklyn reached an easier stretch in their schedule the last week or so, winning two in a row against fellow lottery players Dallas and Memphis, before blowing a 23 point lead to Charlotte and losing a tough one to the Raptors on Friday.
Though Jeff Green did not make the trip (flu), with Larry Nance, Jr. (who will get the start in place of Green), Rodney Hood and Tristan Thompson back, the Cavs should have enough extra bodies to keep their modest winning streak going. The team is also still without Kyle Korver and Cedi Osman, as well as head coach Ty Lue, but otherwise is finally having some decent luck staying together. Their chemistry on the court is still a work in progress… but they have the ultimate trump card in LeBron James, who’s notched two of his 16 triple doubles this season against the Nets. Odds are that we may see yet another one today from the King. LeBron needs only 28 points to lock down the 10th 2,000 point season of his amazing career.
Prediction: The Cavs play ping-pong with the lead early, but ultimately scratch off the Nets to keep their winning streak alive, 128-112.
Also, if you haven’t been following commenter Jason’s fine work in the threads to keep you up to speed on how the NBA Lottery teams are lining up… the Nets currently have the sixth worst record in the League, and have around a 21% chance of winding up with one of the top three picks in the draft. Let’s hope the Cavs can help continue to improve those odds…
Catch all the action starting at 1pm EST on either FSO or NBATV. And, as always… chime in here.
Great finish, George!
Aggressive Hill is a Hill worth dying on…
Aggressive Hill is the best Hill…
who made the decision to dump harris? was that part of the “win now” strategy, i would guess yes.. which is quite a shame.. reminds me of all the former indians who were traded away over the years, that we watch blossom into studs.. WTF!!??
He was part of the cap shedding move so they could sign LBJ… so you could still have him instead of LeBron if you want…
No. He was a rookie LeBron’s first year back.
Selective memory…
He was never gonna get the playing time he needed to develop here.
They dumped Harris on Orlando in early 2016 after he had season-ending surgery. Can’t remember who ended up filling his roster spot, but even if it was just Dahntay Jones, it was worth it the way the 2016 season turned out.
Good rest for LBJ…
Refs just waiting to call a foul there.
Harris looking like Moses Malone on the offensive boards
When you can’t block out Joe Harris… smh
Damn… thought that Love hook was going in…
JC brings the thunder!
Good recovery from that unit. Love for TT.
CAPT BANDAID!
Hood takes a good charge!
Man… these threes have to start falling for Hood at some point…
Good D there fron JR & JC!
Credit where it’s due… this group has scored 7 straight to get the lead…
Yep.
Missed call… it was off Dinwiddie…
Harris fell for it…

Nice drive by Hood…
Hate this lineup: JC, Hill, JR, Hood, TT.
Can’t expect too much with jr and tt in there
JR and Tristan two man game is a recipe for failure.
That is a tank duo…
Bad pass by JR… but in fairness, TT was being held with no call…
Wow. Tristan running through mud.
Can’t put TT on Dinwiddie… or really any PG…
Jc hits a good shot, misses a terrible one.
There is no fix for stupid.
Just find the open man JC…
There you go JC! (I feel like Hubie Brown)
Well… if Cavs can survive three or four mins without LBJ in the third, they should be able to pull this one out…
Down 2. Gonna need Bron & Love to take us home.
Hood is mot a hood defender vs PGs.
Damn tiny letters.
You almost had Mott the Hoople there…
Cavs falling asleep on D…
Good D TT!
You have a foul to give!
Take it when you’re beat for a layup!
What a move by LBJ…
TT helping out!
Man Clarkson off today
I would trade Smokin’ Joe for JR (and his contract)…
That’s a fireable offense….
TT uses his butt for something productive
WOW… TT with a burst of his vintage self…
There you TT!
O gosh jr!!! Dam it!!
JR can’t get by Harris… manages bail out shot…
JR with a horrible possession that ends in points.

Nance and hill both got fouled on that last possession
Jumper from Nance. Bron iso 3. Hill empty drive. JR TO. Ugh.
JR checks in… Cavs fall back…
Jesus how do you let Joe get free on his very first possession.
Shocked he didn’t make that one… shocked…
Career high 22 points for Smokin’ Joe…
Heads up for tt and jr! Shut ur screens off quick!!!!
Lol
Nothing going right for LNJ today…

Just like that… 9 point deficit becomes 1…
Good energy here. Hill, Bron, & Love leading the charge.
Almost time for ‘the cooler’ to check in.

Hill! A three and a finish! Not fitting out, fitting in!
I’ve really missed Love’s ability to rebound… makes such a difference
Amen to that. Defensive rebounding is a part of defense.
Winter is coming!
Ugh LBJ FTs.
Love with another deeeeeep three!
Gonna need to be a lot of LBJ drives from here on out…
Of course… Nets will take it if he’s gonna shoot FTs like that…
Outside of LBJ… team really not shooting well at all…
The Cavs can’t get stops. They are trying to close out to the shooters on their strong driving hand but they are driving to the other side of the close out easily.
I don’t really think the Andersons had issues getting tickets to this game.
6 mins in the bonus. Got to get downhill.
One step forward… two back…
Yeah agree with Nate. These Nets are way too agressive on the perimeter. James Harden would have a field day.
Is calling the loss still hilarious? Energy & execution still poor. Down 9.
Yes… every time you call for a loss it’s hilarious to me…
