Live Thread: Cavs vs. Mavs (#HappyEaster)
2018-04-01Somewhere between collecting eggs, attending services and eating ham… hopefully you’ll have time to take in a little bit of Cavalier basketball on this Easter Sunday. With only a half dozen more games remaining, the Cavs will take every win they can get… especially against one of the many active tankers in the league like the Mavericks… and, especially with the not so easy week ahead (with games against the Raptors, Wizards and Sixers).
The prognosis on George Hill’s ankle is just a sprain at this point, although the team has not set a return date for him yet. Aside from him and Kyle Korver (foot) the Cavs should be at full strength to face Dallas. Jose Calderon will get the start in place of Hill, and the rest of the starting lineup should be the same as Friday’s game. For the Mavs, Dirk Nowitski was questionable but is expected to play. Dwight Powell is also questionable, and JJ Barea is out.
Just because April Fools Day coincides with Easter Sunday this year… doesn’t mean the Cavs shouldn’t be able to handle the Mavs fairly quickly and easily. This is a team that does not want to win, and even if the Cavs look past them a bit, there’s not much chance Dallas doesn’t find a way to tank strong once again. Cavs put another win in their basket… 119-107.
Catch the action starting at 6pm EST on FSO, and as always hang with your Peeps here at C:tB…
Nate, Cavs tanked the summer of 2002. I was as happy for it back then as I am now. Face facts people. Lucas says so, and all you have to do is realize what Jim Pax trading Andre Miller and Wes Person for Darius Miles amounted to. Get real. Maybe people didn’t watch all 82 games of the 17 and 55 season, but I did. I was a dumb high school kid that had hope for the future because we tanked (Miller! And Wes Person for literally nothing). We knew the Miles trade was a tank back then. I am… Read more »
17 and 65. Pardon my math.
Agree with John B.
I was also happy the Cavs were tanking then. In the 90’s, the Cleveland PD was no longer available in SE Ohio, but the Akron BJ was. Thus I was on top of of Akron area sports reporting. This included coverage of LeBron from about sixth grade on, and I started hoping for a cosmic alignment that would bring LBJ to the Cavs. I think the Indians broadcast was interrupted to announce the Cavs getting the #1 pick that year. (Anyone remember?)
Agree 100%. The hypocrisy and homerism from many is astounding. Count me out.
Play of the day

As for the Cavs, I want to hold on to 3 to avoid Philly/Tor until the potential ECF.
With our lazy D, Wiz could give us a run. Ditto Indy.
Kings beat the Lakers. Wins:
19 = Suns
———-
21 = Grizz
22 = Hawks, Magic
23 = Mavs
———
25 = Kings, Nets
26 = Bulls
27 = Knicks
Tuesday:
Nets at Philly
Hawks at Heat
Orlando at NY
Hornets at Bulls
Blazers at Mavs
Kings at Suns (somebody wins)
same as mikeo–pacers or wiz
granted it was the “tanking mavs “—but is it a good sign that our 2 top scorers (lebron / klove ) go 9/34 and we still win—–swish and cpt’ bandaid seem to be forming a bond on the 2nd unit —good to see —I do like clarcksons fire !!
OKC win in NO. Big win for them. Jazz up 19 late 3rd in Minny.
Bucks up in Denver after 1.
OK Cavs fans, who would you want in round 1?
If we hold onto 3rd, Wiz, Bucks, & Heat are within 1 loss of each other.
If we fall to 4th, Indy or Philly.
I’d be cool with either Indy or Washington…
Did Bron party with Justin Timberlake last night? He was awful.

The nba is turning into the wwe.
It is a joke. Has been for a while.
8-9 teams doing it to unprecedented lengths. Shutting healthy guys down completely. Benching vets in the 4th. Both.
That is why big win totals these days (looking at you GSW) don’t mean as much when 1/3 of the league are throwing games.
Should just make every team in the lottery have an equal chance at top pick. There would stil be tanking to get in the lottery if teams are close, but the incentive would be far, far, far, far lower…
Meh. Try trading away your two best players for literally nothing the summer before LBJ comes out. This is crazy. Perspective please.
Pistons beat the Nets. Hawks over Magic.
I think 6th is about our best shot going into the draw. Suns, Grizz, Hawks, Magic, & Mavs seem the tankiest. Magic have an easy schedule, but lose anyway.
I’d be pretty happy at 6…
That Mavs/Magic game will be a crap fest.
Bron was 5-21…
Hoping he didn’t peak early. He looked horrendous
Fans mad they aren’t getting their mcnuggets…

o my god what a finish—n.d wins again last second shot
Mavs with 8 points in the quarter… nah, they’re not tanking…
Adam Silver said there’s no tanking in the NBA, EG…
LBJ has every reason to be upset there… got hacked
I was just going to say this is one of the worst games I have seen LeBron play. . . and he has a triple double.
Ladies FF has been amazing. 2 OT games and this one in the final.
The mavs called a timeout with the score 85-81 and have scored 2 pts since then …extreme tanking in full effect…
Great hustle by LNJ and JR!
Game out of reach, so Barnes back in.
Nice passing leads to the KLove three point dagger…
wow ladies title game all tied –40 sec’s left–helluva game
Lebrin draining threes from the right side is the only relevant part of this game.
Messed around and got a triple double. Literally.
LBJ with a JKidd like triple double…
Barnes three happy now…
Before I go watch it, how did Klove play in first half?
Lots. Of rebounds. Jumper still flat. Clarkson wouldn’t pass to him in post
Thanks Nate.
