Live Thread: Cavs vs. Grizzlies
2019-02-23Well, still no Tristan Thompson, who has been ruled out for tonight’s game, but the rest of the squad (sans JR) is at full strength. They’re taking on very different Grizzlies team than the one that existed before the trade deadline. With Jaren Jackson Jr. out indefinitely, the Grizz are relying on a rotation of Mike Conley, Justin Holiday, Avery Bradley, Bruno Cabloclo, and our old pal Jonas Valanciunas. Also taking us on a walk down amnesia lane will be C.J. Miles, Chandler Parsons, and Joakim Noah. Let’s party like it’s 2015.
This could be a scheduling win for the Cavs as they took on the Clips last night before traveling to the North Coast. Still with a stable full of young guys like Ivan Raab and Delon Wright to go along with their wiley vets, Cleveland should’t take the 23-37 Grizz lightly. It should be a fun matchup. Let’s hope the young guys keep improving and that Kevin Love starts playing like Kevin Love. Go Cavs!
Cedi is 25/51 in his last 8 games from deep. 49%. Same span on FGs: 56/104 = 53.8%. For the year, 3PT% is up to 34.0%. 2PT% is up to 50.0%. Overall up to 42.9%. FT% at 75.4%, up from 56.5% last year. TrueShooting% is 53.6%. Darned close to league average after being WAAAY below. Last 8 games = 65.7%. That is Steph level (66.3%). Unrealistic to have that 3PT, FG, and TrSh %s remain at that level. But wow! Throw in the other 4-5 really hot games from earlier and Cedi has been at Steph level efficiency 25% of… Read more »
Just listening to the podcast – really great discussion about the one and done rule. Another great example on this blog where people can disagree and still be civil!
MORANT AVG–ALMOST 28/ 10–LAST 4 GAMES —HOPEFULLY – (EXCITED ) -TO SEE HIM IN THE NCAA TOURNEY —SEE WHAT HE DOES —-I AM PREDICTING HE PUTS ON A SHOW SIMILAR TO WHAT CURRY DID AT RICHMOND
YEAH WOULD LIKE TO SEE A ’10 GAME SAMPLE SIZE ” FROM HIM / HENSON THIS SEASON —-SEE WHAT HE BRINGS / DOESN’T BRING —–CAVS WILL HAVE SOME INTERESTING / DIFFICULT DECISIONS TO BE MADE THIS SUMMER ————STAUKAS (PAC(k )- MAN )—WILL BE GONE—–“QUEESE ” HAS COOLED OFF SINCE ALL STAR BREAK —STILL HAS THAT DANGEROUS COMBINATION /ATHLETICISM / YOUTH / POTENTIAL TO SIGN ON A DECENT / FAVORABLE CONTRACT —-ANTE HAS SHOWN ENOUGH–HE IS A KEEPER —-THINK ALOT OF HOW SOME OF THESE PLAYERS PLAY TO THE REMAINDER OF THE SEASON WILL DETERMINE HOW THEY DRAFT —-ESPECIALLY HOUSTON’S DRAFT… Read more »
If we are in a position to take a player who we think can be a star player, we should take them, regardless of position. Love is our only star, not a super-giant at that, and can play 2 positions anyway. In terms of decisions for next season, Zizic is locked up: Under contract:/full guarantee = 10: Love ($28.9 mil), TT ($18.5), Knight ($15.6), JC ($13.4), LNJ ($12.7), Henson ($10.5), Delly ($9.6), Sexton ($4.8), Cedi ($2.9), Zizic ($2.3). Assume all 10 back at least to start the year. 5 spots left. Minus 2 for our 2 first rounders. So 3… Read more »
Henson still out too.
I always forget about him as well.
Zion league update: wins + next 5.
Suns 11: at Mia, NO, LAL, Mil, NY
NY 11: SA, Orl, Cle, at LAC, at Sac
Cavs 14: Port, at NY, Det, Orl, at Brk
Bulls 16: Mil, at Mem, at Atl, Atl, at Ind
——
Hawks 20: at Hou, Minn, Chi, at Chi, at Mia.
Some winnables for us but for Chicago as well. After Orlando, 5 of 6 on the road with Toronto the home game.
Houston with an impressive win at GSW without Harden…. Wow.
With CP3 healthy, they own the Dubs.
Bad for our draft pick, but I would love to see the end of the Dubs.
Nice for CP3 to remind people he is an elite player. Nice to see Faried playing well again.
The Manimal is back.
Great game. I don’t think we hold onto 3rd worst lotto seed. Can’t see the bulls keeping ahead of us now.
IDK about that. They beat Boston, we beat Memphis. Our schedule is tougher. Particularly the last 11 or 12. If we do not catch them in the next 10 games, I am not sure we do.
Was consistently about 10 minutes behind watching the game tonight, so i didn’t want to comment and see spoilers, but damn. Honestly we had long stretches of shooting lile garbage and Stauskas was just an anchor, but it’s great to see the TEAM be good enough to win without having a perfect night. So great to see Love being Love. Delly is still astounding for what he brings to Cleveland. Sexton is learning more and more. I love his heart. And the kid whose 3 ball was supposed to be a liability is making it a strength. How many rookies… Read more »
I saw and loved LNJs comments about trying to be a top 8 team in the East from the ASG on.
Not too worried about dropping one spot. I think we are pretty much locked into 3rd or 4th heading into the drawing. We are way better than NY/PHX and are 6 wins behind the Hawks.
100% agreed. It’s awesome to see him take pride in the team and project the respect that he thinks they can earn. I loved seeing thathat comment.
The one bonus of not having LeBron anymore is we can get excited about progress and potential in good games instead of expecting wins and being disappointed in anything but a straight road to a championship.
Rockets up double digits without the Beard at GSW. Braymond looks like he turned an ankle.
This is the perfect game to ahow off why cousins wont work on the warriors. There is only 1 ball and he thinks he deserves 15 shots a game and wants several of those to be 3s
Kyrie is in the perfect situation – a bunch of tryhard teammates who cover for his weaknesses/ laziness, and he gets to ballhog hero ball it down the stretch in losses to the Bulls. He’s still going to the Knicks, though.
Some of the young guys in Boston think they are hot sh!t because of the run to the ECF last year. If I had to guess, Brown being the main culprit.
I still maintain any team with Kyrie as the #1 is not good enough to win a title. He is a perfect #2 but not a #1 yet. Like Kobe from 2000-2002.
I agree. He doesn’t seem to notice that his stats are the same as when he was a number 2 option in Cleveland. Just because he gets more media attention now doesn’t mean he’s actually better.
Going to LA to ride LBJ coattails again.
Cavs rooting interests:
Schaudenfruede edition:
1) Lakers lose
2) Celtics losing
3) Kings up 11 after 3 in OKC
Cavs edition:
1) Hawks beat Suns (17 Ls in a row)
2) Bulls winning
3) Rockets over GSW at half. (we want Houston to make the POs but finish as low as possible). Harden out so I think GSW gets them.
Ja Morant having a great game tonight as well.
KLOVE, Sexton, and Zizic with huge games tonight!!! Delly great job off the bench. They showed some mental toughness tonight too.
That was fun… last portion of the season should be some fun to see.
KEVIN LOVE is Back! What a nice game all around. Delly is the x-factor behind Sexton’s improved game. He spurred Kyrie’s development in his first tour. That was a fun game to watch!
Grizzlies are quite a collection of also-rans with Noah, Conley, Bradley, Parsons, and Valanciunas.
Delly is definitely paying off on and off the court. Sexton is really starting to show the benefits of Delly’s influence.
MORANT 17 / 10—JUST STARTING THE 2ND HALF—-IF WE CAN’T GET ZION OR BARRETT–HOPE WE HAVE A SHOT AT THIS KID
MY BAD THOUGHT BULLS WON ALREADY—STILL GOING TO HAVE A BEER !!
STAUKAS MIGHT AS WELL PACK HIS BAGS NOW—( HE POSSIBLY NEVER UNPACKED THEM ) —–YEH CAVS WIN / BULLS WIN / ATL / WIN —LAKERS LOSE / AND CELTICS POSSIBLY GOING TO LOSE —–TIME TO GO GRAB ANOTHER BEER !! : )
DeRo with 40 including the last 12 for the Nets tonight. 2 pt win in Charlotte.
Lakers lose by 13 in NO as Davis does not play.
Suns lose in ATL.
Bulls up 13 after 3.
Box score goodness:
Love: 26 min. 32/12. 9/15 FG & 6/9 3s. +14.
Zizic: 18/7/1 on 6/7. +10.
YB: 20/6/5 on 8/16 & 4/6 3s. +2.
Tough nights fir LNJ (despite the big hook late), JC, & Chriss.
Hon mention:
Cedi: 11/4/2 on 3/6 3s. -2.
Delly: 10/3/6. +4. 3/7 FG.
Nwaba: 16 min. +9.
25 assists, mostly in 2nd half!
also Dubs down 15 to the Rockets :)
Nice to see K Love have a big game.
KLOVE looked goooood
If he plays 35 min, he goes for 40.
Glad I caught some of this game, Cavs on the up, nice to see.
Cavs win!!!!! Gritty win!!!
Very nice game, Cavs.
Nance sorry!!!
Zizic cleaning glass!!!!! Clutch!
Close this out, Cavs.
God. Longabardi is tiny.
Celtics down 24 to Bulls….lol…
Good fightback late. Cedi/YB/LNJ/Delly/Zizic played well down the stretch.
Great board, Sexton!
What a rebound Sexton!!!!!!!
Nice board, Collin…
Wtf with that call.
Celtics down 20 to Bulls…if it holds up, it’ll be nice…
I believe in Nick and his ping pong magic. Let’s win and get Zion too.
If this is a win, is that 3 out of 4?
Yep. 1st time all year if we get it.
Woohoo!
IDK if that is goaltending. Close.
That’s a goal tend…cmon…
nah, that was clearly a block
Definitely on the way down
Big YB3! Nice to see that. Cedi a tad exuberant.
Big miss
Youngbull! Stepback!
Wow, Collin…that may do it…
Or not…
lol
Return of the Cedi! The three and the slam!
Lakers are going to lose and Celtics down 13 to Bulls in 3rd…good times…
LNJ sky hook. Cedi 3. We finally get a d-board. YB to Cedi for the slam! Huge!
CEDI MIND TRICK
Look ahead pass Sexton TO cedi!!!!!!!! What a play~!!
FLUSH IT CEDI!
C3DI!
Cedi 3!!!!!
Seriously? Jonas 3?
Nance nice drive and finish!
AGREE WITH YOU ON BENCH POST
Sweet hook, junior
Luvly!
Except for delly, bench has been bad tonight.
K love with a vintage Minnesota game.
Love out at the moment. No way we win this if he sits the remainder.
Cedi disagrees.
Conley a warrior tonight.
