Live Thread: Cavs @ Bucks
2019-10-28The Cavs are In Milwaukee tonight to take on the Greek Freak. The Bucks are coming off a loss to the Heat where they led by 21 points and eventually fell in overtime.
I didn’t see the game but Giannis Antetokounmpo fouled out in overtime so that seems like it would be a strong factor in the loss.
Giannis also fouled out in his first game of the season against the Rockets. See a trend?
The Cavs are coming off a win against the Pacers in which Tristan Thompson and Kevin Love both had over 20 points and ten boards. If the Cavs stand a chance tonight, TT and Love will have to put up similar numbers.
Three Things To Watch
1. Who on the Cavs can cover the Greek Freak? Cedi Osman is too small. Tristan is probably too slow. The team is going to have to cover Giannis by committee and pack the paint. He still can’t hit 3s, and the Cavs must remember that all night or they’ll give up a ton of inside points to him. They can;t let him Euro Step them into oblivion.
2. The Cavs offense needs to run through Love. Love handed out nine dimes against the Pacers; he could do that most nights if he got the ball enough. He still only took eight shots though, which is four less than Darius Garland did in that game. That’s not right. If the Cavs want a chance to win this season, the team needs to run their offense through the vets.
3. Is the Cavalier defense actually legit? They’re currently fourth in the league for defensive rating at 96 per game. They’re second in the league in opponent second chance points. It’s a small sample size, but I’m hoping they keep up the effort at the very least. The second chance points thing probably is real, considering they play two legit big men in their starting five.
The Bucks are a title contending team so it would be no surprise if they blow the Cavs out in this game, especially after their loss to Miami. However, there is hope. The Bucks have good perimeter defenders, and that should limit Collin Sexton’s and Darius Garland’s ability to take too many shots. That will force the team to work the ball down low, and hopefully keep the game semi-competitive.
I’m also predicting Tristan tries at least one 3-pointer in this game.
Bucks 114, Cavs 105.
The Bulls lost to NY last night, yes?
This is a gettable game. There are a few teams on our level: NY, Charlotte, Washington, Chicago, Phoenix, Memphis, Indy sans Dipo, Detroit sans Blake, and surprisingly, Sacramento.
Along with us, that looks like the bottom third of the league. Someone could be better (Suns?), and another team could slip (Nets, Dubs).
SPEAKING OF GARLAND –WILL HE RISE OR SUCCUMB TO THE PRESSURE OF PLAYING AGAINST CWHITE TOMORRW NIGHT —–SURE THERE WILL BE ALOT OF COMMENTS EITHER WAY PRE/ DURING / POST GAME
SO WHO IS THIS ” KNIGHT ” PLAYER YOU MENTIONED BELOW —-( SARCASM ) : )
Cavs got beat by 3 pointers and dribble penetration from Bucks guards. Even George Hill looked like an all star. Either we let rookies learn how to defend or mix up guys like Delly/Knight with Sexton/Garland.
TT is balling out this year, Love looked decent but it appears he is more facilitating than anything. Sexton had good game too.
Cavs kept this close and looked like a well coached team – unlike that other Cleveland team haha
GO CAVS!!
TOTALL AGREE WITH YOU ON THAT BUCKAROO—–” I WILL DRINK TO THAT ” : ) ————CONFIDENCE IS A MAJOR PLAYER IN ANY SPORT
i do think one great outing by garland (where the outside shot is falling) will have a huge impact on his psyche.. he has the shot.. he just needs to find it.. no idea how good he can be.. but he is certainly better than he is showing.. even i would not want to bet that this is it.. the upside is there.. whether he was the best option at #5 is another question..
We had it to 96-91 with the ball with 6 minutes or so left. Respectable.
Though it is so hard to win with poor PG play, and that is where we are going to be most of the time.
Hopefully, Garland/Sexton/Porter (& Clarkson) can show some growth and Delly can hit some jumpers. Windler will help us.
AGREE WITH THE ATHLETICISM PART NATE –ALTHOUGH AS A “KID JUST TURNING 19 ” —HE HAS TIME TO HIT WEIGHT ROOM / DEVELOP / GET STRONGER –FASTER / ATHLETIC ——HELL LOOK AT WHAT SEXTON DID IN 1 SUMMER’S TIME OF HITTING THE WEIGHTS
YEP MIKEO AM EAGERLY AWAITING FOR WINDER TO PLAY ALSO
DLILLIARD 4/20 —1/5 3PT ——LOOKS SOMEWHAT SIMILAR TO GARLANDS STATS TO A LARGER DEGREE ——-JUST A THOUGHT TO PONDER —HEY THE KID (GARLAND ) HAS PLAYED 3 NBA GAMES —BASICALLY COMING FROM H.S. –SINCE HE BARELY PLAYED LAST YEAR IN COLLEGE —–THERE WILL BE GROWING PAINS —–STILL SEE ALOT OF POTENTIAL WITH THIS KID —AND YES HE NEEDS TO START TO CONTINUE THE GROWTH ——REMINDER WE ARE IN “REBUILD ” MODE —-” MORE BEER PLEASE ” : )
Yeah, I think he’ll be good in the future, mostly going to suck this year though. Entirely predictable. We need Windler, I think he’ll be a pretty good plus on offense.
I know I just worry. He doesn’t have athletic things to fall back in like Sexton. Though they both missed so many kickouts to the above the break big that it was painful.
KPJ, Garland show promise, they have so much to learn, but I’d rather watch them develop than watch vets on expiring contracts play when they won’t be here and we’ll still lose. Cavs hung in there until the final 6 minutes.
fairly respectable showing.. regression to the mean by TT was a given, but they will win more than 15 games.. i think maybe 19-21.. not a bad concession on my part 3 games in.. hopefully, they continue to improve.. and hopefully #5 “shows” me something this year.. as an aside.. knicks are going to be better than i originally thought.. and probably better than the cavs..
I can see KPJ being good down the line, but not this year…he really should be playing G league, although I get why the Cavs probably won’t do that…
I don’t know. He had some nice moments. I see a little growth every game. Man he gets no love from the refs though. He needs to have better body language too.
I do like his aggressiveness on drives…I think that will be the best thing he brings, not the step back 26 footers…
Needs to hit the weight room hard…
He seems strong enough to me so far.
He looks really good for a rookie, but I think he’ll need to get a lot stronger to play the bully ball game near the rim.
Yeah and that j feels mechanical.
I don’t love his jumper for sure…
He is pretty cut. I think he needs to learn how to play more than anything.
Hope that And1 gets Delly going
Hope that gets Delly going.
This is a welcome to big boy hoops for Garland…
Sit TT.
Garland shouldn’t be playing. It’s that simple.
He should be playing 2nd team…
what’s wrong with #5 ? you guys thinkn 1) jitters, 2) needs more time (talent, but a work in progress).. or, 3) uh oh.. ?
He’s a teenager who has barely played big league ball playing against men…
so, why was he picked #5? the big brass gave him the private look-over in the gym
Because players are drafted on potential. This isn’t hard.
Don’t help, Buck
Kobe Bryant was drafted on potential. So was KG. That is what you draft most 19 year olds on. Garland is essentially a high school player coming into the league. Remember that people.
What Mike O said. Potential. And that was perfectly fine save for fit with Sexton.
Goodnight Nurse
Don’t understand that d on Lopez.
Garland had an open layup. Forced it to tt.
That Middleton three will likely do it…
Yup, Milwaukee is too good. But they hung in.
JC lookin good tonight.
JC having himself a fine game.
Clarkson and 1!!!!!!!!! Great game tonight !!!
Should’ve challenged that.
Nice play Osman.
Great play cedi!
Cavs can’t stop Bledsoe drives…he’s dumb for ever taking jumpers…
Put Cedi in p/r
Great pass Clarkson!
Sexton has to drive that. Bledsoe was in his grill
Cavs are tiny right now
I hate bledsoe
Damn, savvy move Bledsoe
Eff that call. Giannis ran him over. He was almost horizontal
That was freaking absurd.
How the hell was that a block?????
TT has done a good job on Giannis…
Delly can still run that pnr.
Delly dime!
Delly to tt!!! 7 point game!
Turning the clock back
Garland played 5 college games. He has a whole lot of on the job learning ahead of him.
Garland forced that, c’mon kids stay patient garland ball watching
Darius Garbageland tonight.
Looks like a rookie tonight…
Cool nickname
Hope not.
Maybe coach has gotten JC’s ear. Playing with control, looking solid.
TT with the AGGRESSION!
Love on 4 fouls….gonna make it hard down the stretch
Tt!!!!!!
JC. The spark.
