Live Thread: Cavs vs. Hawks (#GoingForThree)
2019-12-23Quick thread post because I completely forgot about it in the midst of last minute holiday shopping…
Cavs go for their third straight win for the first time this season, as they take on the sliding Hawks… losers of seven straight. Atlanta gets back PF John Collins tonight, following his 25 game suspension for violating the NBA’s drug policy. Before his absence, the Hawks had gone 2-3, but only 2-18 since.
The Cavs will be without Larry Nance, Jr. who is out with knee soreness.
Even though Collins usually has big games against the wine & gold, I’ll stay positive in my prediction and say the Cavs win a holiday barn-burner by three… 129-126 to win their third in a row.
Catch all the action starting at 7pm EST on FSO… and as always, sound off here with all your Cavs takes and yuletide joy…
From a former bartender, much like a Tom Collins, to make a John Collins:
Use a Collins glass, obviously
Fill will ice
Add 1 part HGH
2 parts Sour Mix
Age for 25 games
Enjoy!
“Juice” Collins
On the deal, I know we all rag Clarkson, but I think he was 3rd on the team in TS% (behind LNJ & Love) and had a positive DRPM. We were 8+ points per 100 better with him on the floor this year per Xleaning the Glass. Best year for him. But he was likely gone at season’s end. At least we got something. And that 2022 Spurs 2nd and 2023 GSW 2nd could be pretty decent. Don’t think Exum amounts to much, but we have 2 years to look at him. At worst he is a pesky defender with… Read more »
EG! Can we get a gif of KPJ leading an “O Captain My Captain” for the departed JC? Bonus points for photoshopping the rest of the Cavs standing on their desks!
Oh man… that’s a tall order lol

Cavs claim Green off of waivers with the trade exception?
Thoughts?
No. LeBron is not here.
I’m bummeb I waan’t able to Live Thread along for this one. Rough stretch to barely hang on, but that 4th quarter with KPJ and Garland was worth watching the game for alone!
I know Atlanta are not the best Defensive team, but I think it shouldn’t be missed that Cavs won this game without Jordan Clarkson going berserk. Some signs of growth.
yeah said the same thing and they didn’t have Nance who’s been one of their best players too.
Contract Year JC must have been very disappointed that he wasn’t able to go against that Hawks D before he left…
We had 5 guys with 15+ points: Sexton, Love, Garland, Cedi, and Porter. Darn near 4 with 20.
Wins:
6: ATL, GSW
7: NO, NY
——–
9: Cavs, Wiz
10: Min (vs GSW)
11: Det, Grizz, Suns, SA (Griz v Spurs now)
12: Bulls, Kings
13: Hornets, Magic (PO)
Well… I was right about the Cavs winning a high scoring game by 3 anyway…
it was a great call EG! hope u put a buck on the Cavs tonight lol.
You and I got the spread on the nose two games in a row!
What does the CtB crowd think about Exum? Came into the league with high hopes, he’s got size at point guard, but do we need another point, seems Koby should be looking for a wing.
At least he isn’t 6’1…
+1 billion…
can’t shoot, but can play defense, 24 years old means he’s just entering the prime of his career…. injuries ruined his development. Had a good run in summer league one year and someone said he had a good run in the playoffs against Houston.
I think the consensus from Jazz fans is good on D and terrible on O.
yup… can’t shoot or finish and turns the ball over a lot, but can pass it is really all he offers on offense.
His offense is not terrible. It was trending up into double double territory before his last injury and he is a good passer especially lobs to the big. He can get to the rim at will but is sometimes going to fast to finish. His basketball iq is high. His 3 is better than Westbrook’s but not much else to say apart from there being room for improvement. He could be good. He can play wing and defended Harden really well he in the playoffs a few years ago.
AGREE WITH YOU MIKEO—-THINK / HOPE CPT BANDAID WILL HELP THE JAZZZ —-HAVE ALWAYS LIKED HOW THEY PLAY
SO WHAT ARE THE OPINIONS OF THE TRADE —–DID WE AQUIRE 2 / 2ND ROUND PICKS TO USE LATER AS ADDITIONS TO A KLOVE TRADE
Exum is a lost cause, 2 2nd rounders is whatever…. basically a money saving move along with a flyer on Exum resurrecting his career.
Hard to say…I think the trade is okay, they move JC to clear up playing time for KPJ/ whoever…I don’t think much of Exum, but who know, miracles happen, just not too often…
looks like Knight is the beneficiary of the Clarkson move… maybe McKinnie too.
And kpj
GOOD POINT EVIL
Cavs were up by 14 when KPJ left the game… proceeded to get outscored 13-2 after…
yeah probably got yanked for TOs… he had 5 of them. Love had 5 of them too… yeesh… Cedi with 3, Sexland 2 a piece.
Cavs just won without two of their best players this year, pretty good even if it’s against the Hawks.
23 turnovers lead to 32 points… yowza
Not a big fan of Clarkson’s game, but I do think he can help the Jazz, and I hope he does…
They need bench scoring. And if any team can withstand his defensive lapses, it is Utah with Gobert.
I think he’s gonna be good there….. really improved his playmaking with Beilein this year IMO.
…………..” BREAK UP THE CAVS ” : )——ANY WIN / ANY WAY WE WILL TAKE
Cavs are such a better team when KPJ is paired with either Sexton or Garland. Time to figure it out Coach.
Garland’s numbers are so, so much better when he’s not playing with a ball dominant guard…it’s obvious…at the least, they should be minimizing DG and Sexton’s minutes on court together…

Geez, it’s a win that leaves you feeling like a loss.
Well… at least it’s a win where we can see the potential in some of these young guys…
I dunno. Feel like being forced to play tight D to close out a game is good practice for this young team. Though yes I’d rather destroy Atlanta by 20.
WOOOOOOO!!!! Nice team defense!!! Garland with the contest!
We have to take care of the ball better.
Three in a row… somehow…
WHEW! At least they didn’t give Young an open shot…
Cavs win! Nice D on the last play…
Charlotte game all over again.
13-2 run by the Hawks… 8 Cavalier turnovers this quarter… 15 in the second half alone…
WOW… i like the unselfishness, but TT probably should’ve taken the shot on that drive.
We were up 14 with 3:20 left.
Hawks can tie now.
LOOKS LIKE THE “YOUNGINS ” CAME TO PLAY TONIGHT —GOOD SIGN
Wow… gotta make a shot there…
Down to the wire…Cedi with a tough 3 that would have sealed it, but misses…
Garland with a much needed basket… Oh man…. Love another TO.
Good D by TT on Young that time…
Why is Love GUNNING it right now?
god, these turnovers…
Young doing his best Scary Terry…
