Live Thread Cavs @ Wizards
2023-02-06Good evening CtB!
The Cavs have ventured to the banks of the Potomac River to take on the current Eastern Conference 10th seed Washington Wizards and complete their road back to back. This is a game that the Cavs should win but will take a massive amount of grit to fight off the fatigue. The Wizards will be without two of their top offensive options with Bradley Beal and Kyle Kuzma both out, and Ricky Rubio is being load managed tonight as well. Caris LeVert is back from a short hiatus with a hamstring issue, and could come in handy if Donovan Mitchell continues to struggle with the gimpy groin.
One might say the Wizards are the poster child of NBA mediocrity, they don’t do anything particularly well or bad. For the Cavs, it will be about imposing their will on both sides of the ball and fighting off fatigue and the usual J.B. Bickerstaff/Tom Thibodeau 8-man rotation on the second game of a back to back. #FREENETO #FREELOVE
Tip off is scheduled for 7:00PM Eastern time and will be broadcasted live on Bally Sports Ohio/Great Lakes, Go Cavs!
LT up
The Lakers, Jazz, and Timberwolves are engaging in discussions on a potential three-team trade that would send Mike Conley to Minnesota, D’Angelo Russell to Los Angeles, and Russell Westbrook and draft compensation (including a first-round pick) to Utah, according to Shams Charania and Tony Jones of The Athletic
The money is off just those 3, and there will have to be others included. A lot of Jazz were former Wolves prior to Gobert trade (Vanderbilt, Beasley, etc) & cannot be traded back to Minny. Not sure PBev can go to Minny yet, but maybe since he was traded to a 3rd team first?
Surprised Minny would deal with Ainge again ….
I do think the Durant situation may act like a cooler on big trades. Why?
1) Teams won’t want to make moves right now if there is ANY chance KD could be moved now. Save your powder.
2) Teams will want to hoard assets for a summer KD move.
3) Teams won’t want to help strengthen the team around KD. That makes him more likelt to stay. No way Toronto or Phoenix wants a content KD.
Nice discussion with Fedor on Cavs situation. Chase Down podcast. Okoro. SF. Wade. Deadline. Love. LeVert. Osman. Mitchell’s groin.

“Irving said he regretted not doing research on the Nets’ front office before he and his close friend Kevin Durant joined Brooklyn in the summer of 2019.” 😂😂😂
He regretted not doing research 🤣🤣🤣
Lmfao
The lack of self-awareness is breathtaking.
I cannot stand the guy. But I do have to admit, he does do some nice charity stuff. He isn’t evil incarnate or anything. I just would not want him on my team & most of what comes out of his mouth is drivel.
I think he’s pretty insulated by “yes men” or “yes bros” and probably thinks what he says is gospel. Lloyd was on the radio the other day and mentioned that there were only 3 players on the Cavs that liked him: Jordan McCray, Shump, and he couldn’t recall the 3rd player.
pretty good summary
On the good side, he has made a ton of money and hasn’t been in a bit of trouble.
Contrast that with Ja Morant: After a game a week or so ago, he + posse drove a SUV up to the bus when the Pacers were getting on, and pointed gun lasers at guys on the Pacers he doesn’t like. The NBA has no comment other than that it is “investigating”.
Speaking of Kyrie, he’s removed his apology from IG for promoting the anti-semitic film. 🤡
So, you know he’s going to get ask about that by the media, and the circus will start all over again. What a damn fool!
He just can’t help himself. 😂
He doesn’t think there are any Jews in Texas.
Per Fedor, Mitchell (groin soreness) and Garland (thumb) are both QUESTIONABLE for Detroit tonight.
If they both are out, the starting lineup will be interesting. Can Rubio play enough minutes to start? He & LeVert seem the obvious answers. But if Ricky isonly gonna play 20 minutes, then maybe LeVert & Wade with Okoro moving to the 2? Neto starting with LeVert at the 2?
#FreeNeto
I would keep him in his usual spot, and play LeVert and Neto the majority of the minutes.
Congrats to Lebron. But what is Anthony Davis’ issue? https://twitter.com/AnthonyIrwinLA/status/1623207429990150144?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1623207429990150144%7Ctwgr%5E3f0eabcc30bb6e20876af7328f1c366438c813f4%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Ffadeawayworld.net%2Fanthony-davis-did-not-celebrate-when-lebron-james-broke-the-all-time-scoring-record
Terry Pluto has a nice article on LeBron’s VERY early years in clevelandDOTcom today.
I think we all (including myself) need to temper our revulsion of Kyrie. My black friends see Kyrie in a completely different light as well as Kyrie’s teammates who claim he’s a good locker room guy. He hasn’t assaulted anyone, been arrested, done drugs, had a DUI…. The worst thing he’s done is been a man of his own mind. Do I agree with him, no, has he fallen prey to misinformation, (like so many) yes, but I don’t fault a young man searching for meaning, searching for his place in the world, and making blunders along the way. I… Read more »
He’s very publicly opinionated, and when you do that it invites judgment. Speaking for myself, there’s no “hate” involved. Will always appreciate what he did in Games 5-7; and for that matter; the way he did his best to gut it out in 2015 until his knee gave way in the Finals. But at this point it’s impossible to deny that he’s a difficult teammate at best, and can undermine a team when he’s unhappy. And throwing the Nets under the bus right after the trade was just tone deaf and unnecessary no matter what he experienced behind the scenes.… Read more »
The worst thing he has done is publicly support anti semitic garbage. He uses independent thinking as a shield when essentially nothing he talks about is based on any sort of objective fact. He then lashes out and blames others because he genuinely believes he is intellectually superior and above reproach when he’s actually nothing more than a conspiracy believing fool.
Though I get what you are saying to an extent, I am gonna disagree. He is a 30 year old man, not a child. If he is searching for truth, how come he never learns anything?
He’s spread anti-semitic garbage, and then refused to apologize, then reluctantly, the retracting it. All the while refusing to meet with and exucate himself in the issue.
He embraces & spreads Alex Jones conspiracies. He is STILL an anti-vaxxer. Thatkind if misinformation can, and has killed 100s of thousands.
He says he feels “disrespected” by the Nets. He wants to go where he is “celebrated.” Showing no self awareness or taking no responsibility for quitting on his team. Cavs. Boston. Nets. Same story.
I don’t disagree with you all at all. Like I said I don’t agree with Kyrie, but I’m going to hesitate in saying he’s an antisemite or a evil person and attest his mistakes in judgement to him likely being misinformed and unfortunately not as smart as he thinks he and there’s consequences that he shouldn’t be immune from. I’m 60, when I was 30 there was a metric shit ton of life I still needed to learn about.
All you folks who seem to think you remember kyrie as unlikeable are forgetting giant chunks of your life. There was some playful banter about kyrie vs St weirdo…but there is little chance any of us had predictable bad feelings about kyrie prior to winning the title in 2016. He is legitimately one of the top 5 cavs of all time. It is revisionist history to say otherwise.
I don’t think anyone is saying he was unlikeable from the jump. And he was amazing to watch. But he steadily revealed himself to be a real prick.
…if only Waiters had been Beal…
Or Lillard, who I (and Terry Pluto) wanted to draft.
I dont know that that was true while he was a cavalier is all im saying. That logic makes lebron perhaps the worst cleveland athlete ever. Cuz no one has betrayed cleveland harder. But apparently cuz he was epically great compared to all other cleveland athletes outside of Jim Brown we can forgive him wanting out several times
I totally forgive him wanting out.
Both times it was the end of the line for a title run. If he had stayed, we would have been making BAD trades trying to keep things afloat, it would not have worked, and right now we would be in MUCH WORSE shape than we are.
Who is “him” in this statement?
LBJ
KI has gone from being a bit of a jerk to a total jerk.
Just today, he held a press conference to whine about how the Nets “Disrespected him” — after he disrespected and totally screwed the Nets. Screw him.
Exactly, it’s galling for him to say that after his stance on vaccination basically wrecked an entire Nets season, and then his controversy over the retweeted video hurt them this season. All that was BEFORE this trade request. And I’m not trying to reopen those old debates, I’m just saying it’s objectively wrong for Kyrie to complain about “disrespect” from a franchise that has had to show enormous patience with him over the years. He seems totally self-absorbed and without any perspective.
It turns out Kyrie was really St. Weirdo!
haha! Quote of the day!
Wow, I remember him scoring his first 25 in a losing effort to Sacramento, and here he is breaking Kareem’s record today. (Now I feel old!)
I remember when AC set the OU Convo scoring record that still stands. (Now I feel old!)
Josh Giddey not impressed by LBJ’s D.
OKC looking like it can just grow into a contender
They’ve got some guys, but are probably considered like the Cavs last year. Teams aren’t taking them seriously like they should.
And Chet has not played at all yet.
They are certainly playing better than the Lakers & Blazers right now. Utah, too. If I had to bet on it, they at least make the play-in.
Great stuff. Love Kareem being there, such a humble and thoughtful guy. Who’d a thunk it!?
Kareem is one of the finest people around. Incredibly intelligent, ethical, and compassionate. People always mistook his passion for politics and his faith as bad things. He is a pacifist and cares very deeply about humanity.
totally agree. also an expert on music, especially Jazz.
Kareem needs to be in the convo for the goat. Dude was unstoppable with that skyhook and also fought Bruce Lee.
absolutely.
People perceive him as more a “longevity” guy, I think, but if you look at his stats from his first half-dozen years—he was flat out dominant! Like peak Shaq in the early 2000’s but maybe better. And those were the days when you had to play 4 years of college ball before entering the draft; otherwise LBJ would still need a few more years to break his record.
For sure, love Kareem. Keeps up a good substack, too.
No Magic, not everyone is thrilled this happened in a Laker jersey. The arrogance. Go LeBron, from NE Ohio!!!
I didn’t think that was an arrogant comment. Especially since Magic spent all this time with the Lakers.
Obviously he can be thrilled as a Laker. Totally natural. Should everyone be thrilled that it happened that way?
Great thank Kareem was there
Where’s MJ?
Crying somewhere.
Now that he’s broken the record, can we shave that beard, Bron? It’s been bugging me for years.
yeah, ugly beard. As Sir Chuck sez, beard + thinning hair is not a good idea.
Wow. Just wow
I can’t believe they stopped the game
when Wilt scored 100, they ended the game.
Oh yeah? What about Kobe’s 80-something?
dunno. did they stop the game?
LEBRON!!!!!
I’m actually a little choked up watching it go down. The kid from Akron
2 points to go!
