Live Thread: Cavs @ Nets Part Two
2023-03-23Good evening CtB!
The Cavs wrap up their two game road series against the Brooklyn Nets along the shores of the East River as the Cavs have a chance to solidify their position as the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference, while the Nets will be in desperation mode to stave off the Miami Heat for the sixth seed. The Cavs were able to take care of business Tuesday night against Brooklyn even though they coasted for large stretches of that game, which is never a good idea given how it exposes guys to more chances for injury. Hopefully the Cavs show more sharpness tonight as they did in the Charlotte Hornets series in game 2.
Tip off is scheduled for 7:30PM Eastern time and will be broadcasted live on Bally Sports Ohio/Great Lakes, GO CAVS!
I’m up for some OT. Anyone else?
Okoro said “No.”
Insane sequence…and did Mitchell try to miss and win it but…missed?
He usually only tries that with less time on the clock I think? But it sure looked intentional.
That’s my same thought process.. make the free throw, defend and get to overtime..
I think he knew it was off that’s why he went for the rebound not perse that he shot it to miss intentionally.

Cavs were highlighted on ESPN.
Cavs have 3 highlighted stories/mentions on ESPN, today is a good day.
Just saw this quote from Spida:
““It’s gonna sound weird when I say this. I didn’t think it was gonna miss, but I didn’t think, oh, that’s cash. It was one of those moments where it’s just there. I think that’s one of the first moments in my career where I was just like stuck watching the ball go in. If you see my reaction when the ball goes in, I’m kinda like looking around like what the hell just happened.”
As much as JB has been criticised for various things since the start of his tenure, there’s a couple of things I wanted to ask:
1) Given the squad’s development this season (caveat: player health now playing in our favour) – is it possible that he knows what he is doing?
2) Having been fully subscribed to Ben Werth’s take on Caris thus far with respect to his potential, is it also possible that JB and Levert’s stretch of good health have opened a new path? Or is this path laden with fool’s gold?
I don’t know what the stats say, but it looks to me that Caris is playing much more effective defense in the last couple of months. A good part of that is that the defensive scheme is using him effectively. JB has characterized Caris as “a pest” on D, and they have adapted so that he is hunting steals more and trying to block 3s less and so his fouls are down and he seems to be in better positions most of the time. Caris played a huge part in last night’s great comeback. The final dime to Okoro was… Read more »
a difficult pass, and executed perfectly
Which is what looks like growth ,making the right pass instead of the hero ball thing they tend to fall into.
Most of that criticism has been from a few, probably the same ones who used to go on about what an idiot Koby was.
To the first question, he knows his system for sure… the question is whether it’ll actually work when it counts. There’s no track record of bigtime success for him, granted this is the first real contending roster he’s ever coached. He’s coached more games than Ty Lue and Nick Nurse with much less success, still easily bottom 10 winning percentage among active coaches. But he’s still young and has time to improve so we’ll see. People tend to overrate coach’s influence, it’s really about the players… biggest influence coaches have is playing time and to that there’s evidence JB’s not… Read more »
According to bbref, OKoro playing the most PF minutes he’s ever played and by far the fewest guard minutes he’s ever played. Stevens’ guard minutes have been eliminated this season.

Lowe’s 10 things: Evan Mobley is a budding two-way superstar, scarce space for Obi Toppin in New York and L.A. channels Manu Ginobili
Evan getting some shine on ESPN, always make me proud.
Our losses since Feb 1st:
@ Philly – lost by 6
VS Denver – lost by 6
@ ATL – lost by 17 and it was worse
@ BOS – lost by 4
@ MIA – lost by 4
VS Philly – lost by 9
16-6 record during that span. (72% win percentage).
Let’s close the season strong and shock some people in the playoffs.
And that last Philly game was the night they got ref-balled egregiously, otherwise it would have been much closer and maybe was going the other way.

Man, that sequence by Mobley backing down claxton, I think, from the 3 or line, drawing the double and dumping to ja, so sweet. Gosh, from just January to now, these guys are pushing a lot of the right buttons. Really can’t wait for the playoffs, see how they grow
Wow!
Stumbled upon this:

Channing! That was fun.
SMH.. no respect for Okoro after hitting the game-winner…
I think ESPN also wrote the wrong name for Okoro or Lamar earlier this year.. smh.
Workforce minimisation in media has impacts. Twitter still shows Colin Sexton’s image when there’s a Cavs game coming up.
haha!
Evan Mobley with some peak kevin garnett like impact lately. you love to see it. Hopefully that shot bumps Okoro from a sometimes shooting wide open 3s to most of the time.
I really think Mobley getting the ball down the stretch is what kept this game from finishing the way a couple of heartbreaking losses did earlier in the season (@Clippers, @Kings for instance). Garland was 4-16 tonight and Spida had cooled off after that great first quarter, so if they’d hijacked last few possessions it was not going to end well last night. Instead they let Mobley run things in the post until they got within 4.
Great point. Mobes has so many easier ways to get buckets than the little guys if he can get post position. He literally threw it threw the rim a couple times overhand

If they notated basketball games like chess, that last possession would have had an (!) on it. Mitchell misses game tying free throw. Mitchell misses game winning layup. Mitchell misses game winning layup. Okoro 3(!) ; checkmate.
LMFAOOOOO
Part of me thinks Mitchell missed it on purpose.
If it wasn’t for the game-winner, Evan would have gotten the JYD award… glad both are getting the post-game interview
Damn Mobley gotta a massive bruise right between his eyebrows from the other night.
Always love seeing the Cavs getting some spotlight on ESPN!

We got 3 steals in the last 1:12 min and scored on each possession after the turnover.
Mobley 26/16/5 stocks/3 assists team high +16 plus/minus
Was just going to say +16 for Evan and DG was +15.
My goodness that is sick— he’s really coming into his own this last couple months. Dudes going to be (already is) a monster
He got the memo about rebounding! What a game!
Oh man, what I miss?
Seriously, going to enjoy watching the tape of this one. What a win!
Knicks go down and the battle for the 4 seed is more or less over.
Yeah we might (I would hope) rest some guys for the last 2-3 games
I want us to reach 50 wins first though.. it has a nice ring to it.
Mobes dominant! JA with 9 rebs in second half
JA really came through in the 2nd with those offensive rebounds..
Evan 4:
JA: 5
DM: 2
Caris: 1
12 offensive rebounds as a team in the 2nd half (13 points, 5/11) VS Nets 4 off rebounds a(2 pts, 1/3)
We outrebounded the Nets 26-16 (+10) versus the 1st half (14-26 (-12)
Cavs in the 4th – 31 pts – 52%
Evan: 8 pts
Caris 6 pts
DM: 5 pts
Cedi: 5 pts
Okoro: 3 pts
JA: 2 pts
DG: 2 pts
Cavs in those last 2 min down 8
12-2 run
4/6 FG
THATS RIGHT JB GIVE CARIS HIS DUE!

Who had “Okoro hits game winner to steal it from Nets” on their predictions?
I was just like oh gosh Okoro 3… I would never had expected this!
GREAT PASS CARIS, right in his shooting pocket
That’s some crazy shit.I thought they were out.
Potentially a win that may catalyse a transformation for this team. Self-belief etc will grow.
Especially because of the way it came about – defense, and Mobley visibly taking over at both ends of the floor to initiate the comeback. In a couple years that may be an every game thing for Evan.
CARIS CLAMPS
Get out!!!!!
dont foul!!
Holy shit! Just checked “Issac Okoro dagger 3” off the bucket list!
Wow!!! That was incredible!!!
Ic3!!!! Are you kidding me?!?
CARIS TO ICE TRUST YOUR TEAMMATES
He fed Mitchell and then Ice those last two possessions.
Something about Caris in the clutch, makes plays in those moments.
Holy shit! Okoro! 3!
what the hell!!!!
HOLY FUCKING SHIT
Lol jinx my man!!!!
LMFAOOOOOOOOO LET SGOOOOOOOOOOOO
Biggest shot of Okoro’s career
Holy fucking shit!!!!!

Make your FTs and go to OT!
This was even sweeter.. we couldn’t have dreamt this one up ourselves.
NOOOOOOOOOOO DONT LET HIM GO RIGHT
Why is allen in?
Did Mobley get a piece of that?
Time for a Captain Bandade 7 point play!
😂
Rip the Net’s hearts out!!!! No mercy!!
Spida! Clutch!

Get a stop and another bucket.
YAAAASSSSSS. Levert D into Michell O. Love it!!!!!
The D

CARIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LMFAOOOOOO
LeVert’s corn rows and free throws on point.
Rebounds….facepalm.
Mobley keeps losing shooters
Gotta hit 3s. Cavs are going for 2s while Nets are canning 3s.
Another wide open 3…
OMG. That last window nation commercial might be the best thing since Mlzgov’s effigy sandwiches
Mobley following dunk!!!
*pokes mitchell*. c’mon; do something …
Eclipsed by Bridges tonight. Ah well.
Need to hit some 3s
That 3 from Joe after all that tough defense was a heart breaker.
That Harris three might be it
Mobley keeps losing him to protect the rim.
Lock down D now or never…
agree.. down 6/7 now wth 3 min left.
Maybe guard Harris
Evan slow walks for two!
