Live Thread: Celtics @ Cavs
2024-03-05Good evening CtB!
The Cavs welcome the Boston Celtics, who are best and hottest team in the NBA right now, to the shores of Lake Erie for a massive prime time, nationally televised showdown. Unfortunately for the Cavs, Donovan Mitchell and Max Strus have been declared out for tonight. There’s a chance that Isaac Okoro and Caris LeVert may not play either. In spite of the injuries, this game serves as an opportunity for young stars Darius Garland and Evan Mobley to shake off growing reputations as overrated young players undeserving of earlier hype. Also given the injuries, it’s time for the Summer League Cavs stars Sam “I am” Merrill and Craig Porter Jr. to step up and earn more the faith of Coach JB Bickerstaff. Also it’s a perfect game to employ more Dean Wade on the wing tandem of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, who did an excellent job on them in their road win early last season. Can the unheralded take down the Eastern Conference Goliath? Stay tuned…
Tip of is scheduled for 7:30PM Eastern time and will be broadcasted live on national TV channel TNT, Go Cavs!
I AM ALL “ STRUSSED “ OUT ———🤪
WTF WITH STRUS ——- SAM MY MAN “ REDEMPTION “ NIGHT——- ANY NEWS ON JEROME
Cavs are actually slight favorites tonight. Wolves also on a b2b.
Strus out. I hate it
EDWARDS COULD GO FOR 50+ TONIGHT——-HOPE I AM WRONG
He was a #1 pick for a reason. So was KAT. Those guys are next level. I think DM is probably better than Ant this year but it’s close. Related, I always like teams that can build without a 1-2 pick like us or Indy (or I guess Toronto if they figure it out). So easy to linger in the muck with constant mid-lotto picks like a Sacramento pre-2022 or a Charlotte. Hoping the role players get a boost from some home cooking and steal one. Every other East team has a tough matchup too and one of Orlando and… Read more »
RAOUL—-PROBABLY ANOTHER SCHOOL ( POLAR BEAR 🐻❄️ MASCOT) —-DID COACH AN ATHLETE WHO PLAYED FOOTBALL FOR THEM ABOUT 8 YRS AGO/ PLAYED FOR LEGENDARY COACH STORICH
yeah, I think there are a few Polar Bears squads out there. It is a GREAT name.
THANKS RAOUL ——OUR GIRLS BB TEAM IS PLAYING IN THE REGIONAL SEMI s —-EXCITING/ FUN TIME FOR THIS LITTLE FARMING COMMUNITY 👍🏀🦾🐻———-“ WE ARE THE POLAR BEARS “
I seem to recall a basketball star for the Bobcats who was a Polar Bear in high school, but forget who it was
GREAT ANSWER STEALIT ……WILL BUY U ……” MORE BEER 🍺 PLEASE “ FOR THAT POST 👍👍🍺🍺🏀🏀
THAT SUCKS FOR KAT —— WHAT I POSTED RECENTLY——INJURIES ALL LEVEL OUT FOR ALL TEAMS ——-ALL TEAMS PROBABLY FEEL THEY ARE GETTING SCREWED——— IS THERE EVER A GOOD TIME TO HAVE INJURIES——
yes. Right before a playoff series against the Cleveland Cavaliers
KAT torn meniscus.
We still shouldn’t be favored v Minnesota
GREAT COMEBACK IN THE 3rd ——-JUST COULDNT SUSTAIN —-LIKE THE WAY WE FIGHT BACK————-OUR TEAM WAS DOWN 11 LAST NIGHT WITH 4 MINUTES LEFT——-WE CAME BACK— PLAYING FOR DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP SATURDAY 👍🏀🦾
CONGRATS !!
NEED MORE RUN FOR CPJ ——-ALWAYS IMPRESSES / ALWAYS UNDER CONTROL
totally agree. CPJ should be in every game, and lots of minutes when shorthanded or B2B
CAVS HAVE GOT TO IMPROVE ON STOPPING/ SLOWING DOWN THE DRIBBLE PENETRATION
WONT SEE SAM MY MAN GO 0/9 HOPEFULLY NEVER AGAIN——— HAWKS WERE CLOSING OUT HARD ON HIM
He was playing a ton of minutes on a B2B, in his defense. You can’t really expect the bench guys to be 30m guys and still be reliable. That’s part of why they are bench guys, you can only get so much conditioning on the bike.
The scout is out on Sam, every team is flying out. It’s to his credit he’s able to get shots up.
WATCHING REPLAY—-YEP NO LEGS——MARCH IS GOING TO BE A CHALLENGING MONTH — ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE SHORTHANDED ——-COULD SEE ALOT OF POSITION CHANGES FOR TEAMS
K PERKINS REITERATED MY RECENT POST—“ MOST TEAMS ARE PLAYOFF POSITIONING THESE LAST 20 GAMES—TURNING IT UP A NOTCH “ ——- MAGIC ARE PLAYING GREAT/ RIGHT ON OUR HEELS————IS IT POSSIBLE THE CAVS COULD FALL AS FAR AS TO 8th
It’s possible of course. 2-8 might be a traffic jam but we have the fewest losses. Also all these teams have to play each other too and no one is looking good consistently (Orlando struggled with Washington and they have NY soon, NY and Philly and Milwaukee lost bad ones too)
Get Mitchell and Strus back, notch a few East wins in the middle of March, and you can probably keep a 4-5 game lead on 4 with 10-15 games left.
Just too tough to come out again after last night. Nothing in the legs to support the 3s. Sam especially had to work so hard against Boston.
Last year, Okoro’s offensive game made me wince, but this year, more often I’m raising my eyebrows. His three point shooting is better than respectable, and his aggressive fast break drives to the hoop—often a layup plus one—are impressive.
Agree. Looks a lot more relaxed when playing. Feels like he’s developed more confidence in his ability to get to the rim.
He’s even getting to a nice middy!
I really like our first seven guys. They’ve all improved over last year except for DG.
good thing we didn’t give him away
DW leads the +/- with 1. CPJ is second with 0.
Good effort by the Cavs tonight.
I would trade coaches with the Hawks so fast. We had the horses to slaughter that team tonight. We failed to exploit a single weakness and forced them to adjust to zero repetitive actions. I swear JB thinks he is coaching ymca teams with no repercussions.
He can’t make Dean and Sam not go 1-15 from 3
that is the down side of counting on the three ball.
First of all…thats ridiculous. Yes he freaking can. The idea that the coach has no effect on ahooting percentage is infantile. Apologies for sounding condescending. Great coaching finds advantageous situations for the roster. Terrible coaching leaves that up to chance. We have a genuinely terrible coach. If you cant accept that…you hate our roster and think they suck at basketball. If you are wishy washy on that…you think Mobley isn’t a once in a generation talent and you think darius garland is Deangelo Russel. You might be right. But i happen to think the peak for these guys isnt first… Read more »
There were advantageous situations. They just missed shots. We got good looks and did not fully execute down three starters. You need perspective on these losses. If our specialists shoot well on the open shots they have this is a good Garland game (something like 10 A/2 TOs) and we win. Make or miss league is a cliche for a reason: I love our roster but we’re inconsistent because of youth and instability. That said it’s a bad luck season and we need our blame tampon, but bottom line is 22 games with the starters. Janky offense because of fit… Read more »
Correction: it was THIRTY FIVE. Couldn’t be my team lol
let me assure you that sometimes your shot is going in, sometimes it’s not, and sometimes its 50/50. it’s not like the coach can tell Wade: “Hey Dean, go out and make five straight threes”.
You aren’t slaughtering any NBA team starting your seventh, eighth and ninth man.
Go Grizz!
Tough L there. Just had no offensive spark in the 4th
Make or miss. If you hit any of that open stuff at the start of the 4th it’s blown open for the Cavs
Exactly what happened to the Knicks v Hawks yesterday. Tip your cap. Unreal 0 3s in the fourth or from Merrill :(
Gah. Poop.
Levert holding his left hamstring
Tired players , 3 ball not falling. Gonna struggle to get in front at this point.
