Live Thread: Cavs @ Pistons
2015-01-27Detroit drubbed the good guys 103-80 the 28th of December, and tonight Cleveland seeks revenge. Lots has happened for both teams since. Brandon Jennings was lost for the season to an achilles injury last week, and D.J. Augustin started in his stead on Sunday. He scored 35 in 37 minutes against the Raptors, with 77% True Shooting. So shutting him down is a priority. Detroit features balanced scoring (five guys average double features), a dynamic duo of Monroe and Drummond in the middle, glue guy Kyle Singler, and solid coaching from Stan Van Gundy. Hopefully, the Cavs are revenge minded and can shut down the Pistons in the Motor City. Go Cavs!
I love how Cols has endeared himself to everyone. The comments are as entertaining as the game. This board rules.
Rough game for all three new guys. They all still hung in and made contributions though…
I like that Blatt rested LBJ for a brief stretch. Still kept him to 36 minutes. Although Kyrie had 42, but heck he’s young yet…
Thought Mozgov, Delly, and Shump should’ve gotten more run.
Marion too! He was 4-5 and looked really active
Agreed! But thought they may be saving him because of his age.
Mozgov, I agree. Shump is still working off the rust.
I turned the game on mid-way 3rd qtr. Seemed like, from then on, everybody pretty much walked or stood around. So it wasn’t a real 42 minutes.
Good point… So many bad foul calls really slowed the pace down…
How did Drummond do?
17 boards, 6 blocks and 12 points. Not a great shooting night at least…
A few of those blocks were goaltends. But we had Harbaugh reffing this one.
I noticed more frequent substitutions tonight, or at least earlier in the quarter.
Awesome matchup at PF tomorrow night… Minus the injuries
Love had the highest plus/minus of any Cav tonight.
Saw that too… someone said it earlier, since the Laker’s game where he took the charge, he’s figured out how to contribute in all aspects of the game.
With the Cavs win and likely Bulls loss to the Warriors tonight, should be just 2.5 back by night’s end…
Man… those trades, WOW! It’s shocking to see the Cavs finally make reasonable front office decisions
Man. I’m pumped after watching that. It’s tough to comment and watch though. I’m going to bed. After I shower and brush my teeth.
Glad you hung in there Cols! Way to be!
Don’t forget to floss!
And Waterpik. It’s only 8 here but I’m kind of sick and want to be healthy to ski this weekend. Gotta rest up.
Yeah I miss skiing. It’s pretty nonexistent in the flat lands.
It wasn’t always pretty, but a win is a win is a win! And the Cavs Revenge Tour ROLLS ON! Three down and two to go!
Yep. That they can scuffle in a lot of ways and still not really be threatened in the second half is a positive.
Totally agree, Phil. They didn’t play all that well in the 1st half and by early 2nd, they were up by double digits.
Zeke Thomas is all about the Cavs right now…
Kyrie made that 38 look reallllly easy.
Love is still having back trouble. They should give him a few games off before the all-star game to give him an extended stretch to get better.
I understand given they are on a 7 game winning streak they’re afraid to mess with their mojo. In a way it might be good to drop the game to Portland, then they can sit Love. They can obviously beat the Kings, Wolves and Sixers without him, gives him a good week off before the Clips game.
Defense is looking really good. Offensive firepower is impressive… just need time to gel completely and avoid the injuries.
Ugly game for all including the cheating refs.
No kidding, this game wasn’t as close as the score suggests.
I had money on the cavs to win by 9 points. This game was fixed. Free throws were 24-7 and they gave them two shooting fouls on those three late that were ridiculous.
the line was 8 and 1/2 to 9, and Cavs win by 8 and should’ve won by 15-20.
Donehy still has some pull apparently.
did u see that JR foul? or the one before it?
Stan getting some extra stats for their bigs to pad their case for All-Star reserves?
Huge win. Irving and Lebron were awesome. Team is definitely the best in the east right. Ow.
What was the “Ow” for? Did you fall off your chair? ;)
He fell on his pass.
Hopefully can gain some more ground on the Bulls tonight.
Are you howling at the moon Cols? Where can I send you a Delly sandwich?
Cavs will catch the Bulls by next week if not by the weekend
This is just stooopid. Why are Pistons still fouling… idiotic.
And, unfortunately, you can’t fix that.
There’s absolutely no reason to take 34 three pointers in a game…
Unless Irving shoots 30 of them. Dude is on fire right now
Yeah, but not when they make 26%
Like I said…Irving x30
I don’t mind Irving taking them, but Love, LBJ, JR and Shump combined to shoot 3-23 from deep… yuck
And LBJ is getting drives at will inside…
Gawd this was a horrible game. Can’t play this sloppy tomorrow.
Of course. No win counts for you. We beat okc. Didn’t count. This is our 7th straight win. Give it a rest.
Hee hee. I knew that’d get u.
As long as we play Delly we will beat the blazers
Nate with the fishhook troll FTW
Sometimes Lebron drives me crazier than Dion. At those times I’m going to call him LeDion.
#Awesomeidea
Dude only has 30 points. Definitely should blame him for winning by 8 points.
Cols, you’re the only one who gets his panties in a wad anytime someone makes a critical comment about a player.
Nobody is upset Cleveland won. Nobody is upset that we’ve won 7 straight.
But if you think we beat Portland tomorrow playing this way, you’re friggin’ delusional.
Give it a rest.
spot on @ Gordon.
This board is ridiculous. Irving and lebron are awesome. Our defense has been great all game and people are complaining?!!
We’ve gotten so used to LeBron’s greatness that a 30-8-6 line is still called a bad night… That’s a career night for 95% of players
Oh how quickly they forget how the Cavs team looked when Lebron was gone for 2 weeks.
Yep. He’s the key to rhe nba
Going to the Portland game tomorrow night.
They should win then! C:tB in the HOUSE!
I want to do all I can to keep this train rollin’.
Oh no. Delly is in. Ugh.
No pick and pop with Love all season.
No screening for Love and hitting him with a catch and shoot.
Just camping at the 3 point line.
Some players, even if they are good 3 point shooters, aren’t good “camp and shoot” players.
A lot of the highlights I watched of Love when analysts broke down his game after he was traded to Cleveland showed a lot of screening and motion where Love would be moving when he caught the ball. He was terrific.
Just camping him out isn’t working. TRY SOMETHING ELSE.
Um. We are up by 9. I think it’s all working.
I’m clearly talking about Kevin Love. I’m not sure how someone could even connect a mystery dot and think I was talking about the team.
Re-read it.
And if you think Kevin Love’s 7 points and inability to hit a 3 pointer is “working,” you need a check up.
Oh yeah, well oiled machine out there tonight.
Time out. Wait I think the refs just called another foul…
I feel like this is the worst 30-8-6 performance I’ve ever seen. LeBron has played one of the worst 4th quarters of the year but his stat line looks incredible.
Is Delly in there to shoot free throws……….. lol….
I could watch a stan van cam for hours.
Detroit even tried to foul Irving there and the refs took forever.
Lebron ought to let Irving do the closing the rest of this game
Home cooking is extra tasty tonight. JR didn’t even touch him.
I think I want a Kia. I don’t understand or like this Heineken commercial.
Big soccer game. The guys on the ship leaving port are going to miss out. They rig something up to see it at sea.
Just watched it again. HOSE JOB by the refs!
Pistons with 23 trips to the line… Cavs with 7. Speaks volumes…
Looks like Donehy is still officiating. Gotta cover the spread.
Well. Go back to Irving or Lebron.
JR Smith with a game to forget.
This is why this team is so scary. Smith played as poorly as someone can play. Love is going through something (either injury or mentally), the team shot 9-34 on threes, and only went to the line 7 times…
…and they still dominated the game.
Granted, it was against the Pistons, but this team is simply unbeatable when everything clicks.
Don’t necessarily disagree Cavs at peak are very strong but they did not “dominate” this game. Pistons missed a ton of bunnies and had a bunch of bonehead turnovers.
Worst call ever, any game, any location. Clear space.
These refs….
No kidding!!! Somebody was on it at the beginning.
Where the crap was the foul???
WHAT IS GOING ON?! WHY DO THEY KEEP FOULING THE THREE POINT SHOOTERS?!
That wasn’t a foul. Calm the coronary.
He still gets three shots dude regardless…
He didn’t touch him. Bad call.
Windhorst is paying the refs to keep it close so he can keep writing those “yeah I was wrong about everything but they are playing Lebron too many minutes” columns.
Smith didn’t touch him.
These refs freaking blow! I want Blatt to pull off his tie and start strangling one of them.
Another homer call for Detroit. SMH!
Ok that was just amazing, haha his face during that handshake
Irving is filthy right now. Nice to have his shooting back. He’s been hyper efficient in 8 of last 10
Kyrie really is Allen Iverson 2.0… “Now with jump shot!”
Seriously. I could coach this team to the finals.
Right.
I’m not sure you are using “seriously” correct there. Or “coach”, or “finals”. The particles seem generally on point.
Don’t reach, young blood.
Kyrie Irving is good at basketball.
KYRIEEEEEE with the DAGGER!
What’s the name of the guy with #2 on his back? He’s pretty good.
LOL! Nice timing Newbie
I think it’s the biggest reason why LBJ came back.
Kyrie and LBJ just carrying this team tonight. Cols’ kind of game…
Irving And Lebron just cannot be stopped when hey go one on one. More please!!!
Drummond has had some trouble around the rim.
One thing I have to give Delly credit for: he knows when to take a foul on an opponent’s fast break. Uses his fouls very effectively.
Some real homer calls in this quarter
D.J. Augustin is one of those weird guys who seems to go from good to unplayable to good for no apparent reason, and he’s been doing it for years now
Wow.
Man… how do you foul the three point shooter there… smh
Good job refs. Good job.
Another nice play by love.
At least King is hitting his FTs
I know everyone is disappointed in Love and all of that, but can everyone take the emotion out of it and evaluate him? He can’t be 100%, can he? After his last missed shot (and he’s passed up 3 wide open threes since that one), he was limping a little bit. On offense, he sits at the same spot on the court every single possession, like he’s just a decoy. I think the team knows his back is hurting him and they know his shot is affected by it. Otherwise, why not let him shoot his way out of his… Read more »
I think you’re 100% correct, he must be injured.
I guess I don’t really understand why he is playing heavy minutes in January if he’s really not right. I realize they want the full team to gel but it’s not like he’s playing his game now anyway. I am willing to give Love the benefit of the doubt but then they are using him wrong IMO
I agree, but I don’t understand it if he is 100%.
Idiotic game plan/coaching and idiotic by LeBron if we’re completely minimizing Love to a corner three point shooter on offense.
If Love is injured shut him down.
Detroit is not fun to play against man, good defensive team
Why is TT in there instead of Mozgov? I understand his offensive boarding is valuable in these situations, but they need to neutralize Detroit’s interior presence.
The ball has energy… Nobody is looking for KLove at all/no designed plays to get KLove his buckets. Of course, it’s a two sided coin with Kevin camping out at the three point line too. But he’s giving effort on D and rebounding well. I do think some rest would do wonders for his back ANDY confidence.
Hoping he isn’t an all star for that reason.
Agreed coolshah, just saying to Nate, why not take on Tolliver in the post?
Agree. It’s like he’s just a decoy to draw his man out to the 3 point line.
They should give him a couple games off before and/or after the all-star break to extend his rest and help him recover. His back is definitely bothering him.
I think it’s funny when they show Mila Kunis at the whisky plant…
Loves played solid D this 4th.
Agreed… which makes his inactivity on the offensive end more puzzling. Why not take Tolliver on in the post???
He really has turned around since laker game. Figuring out how to make an impact without scoring
Totally agree, just hoping that they recognize when to exploit mismatches.
HOW do you leave the three that wide open?
Love hustles to run him off the line! So impressive
Weak call
