Live Thread: Cavs @ Suns (#TimeToGoSupernova)
2015-12-28After three straight games of ice cold shooting (the last of which was also accompanied by a total defensive collapse), the Cavs should be due for an explosion of epic proportions. Especially against the imploding celestial body that is the Phoenix Suns these days. The Cavs’ shooting stars have been anything but lately, as gravity and isolation have dragged their overall shooting percentage down to just 35% (90-255) since they last lit up the sky against the Sixers. The long range bombs have been an even less successful 25% (21-83) in that time. Fortunately, they face off against a Suns team that has spiraled out of orbit this season, and is on the verge of a complete meltdown.
The Suns are now down two starters, with Eric Bledsoe (who had been having a stellar year) suffering a knee injury that reportedly will keep him out until after the All-Star break, and the ongoing misadventures of Markieff Morris who is serving a two game suspension for literally throwing in the towel… right at his coach’s head.
While the Cavs have lost two straight, and are coming off of an embarrassing loss to the Trailblazers, the Suns can one-up them on that front having lost four straight, including Saturday’s debacle at home where they handed the lowly 76ers (who were without Jahlil Okafor) their first road win of the year. And, as if getting a face-full of sweaty terrycloth wasn’t humiliation enough… Coach Jeff Hornacek’s seat has been hotter than the surface of the sun lately, with Phoenix management firing two of his assistant coaches against his wishes. It may only be a matter of time before Hornacek himself burns up or out.
The Cavs don’t have nearly the issues the Suns have, but their lackluster performance on Saturday has certainly given rise to a nebula of questions and concerns. Mostly, they could use a return to a larger rotation, and a return to sharing the ball the way they had been doing earlier in the season. Everyone is healthy and available on the Cavs’ side of things, as Kyrie Irving will return from a scheduled day of rest. Hopefully, with a day off to dwell on the mysteries of their basketball universe, they can return with enough fire power to inflict a massive and catastrophic destruction on the unstable Suns. If not, things might get a whole lot hotter for Coach David Blatt, LeBron and the rest of the team.
Projected starting lineup for the Cavs: C Timofey Mozgov; PF Kevin Love; SF LeBron James; SG J.R. Smith; PG Kyrie Irving. And for the Suns: C Alex Len; PF Jon Leuer; SF P.J. Tucker; SG Devin Booker; PG Brandon Knight.
Gametime is 9 p.m. (EST)/6 p.m. for those of you on the West Coast, and all the action can be seen on Fox Sports Ohio… or heard on WTAM 1100.
Since I’m already on a positive kick… I’ll predict the Cavs to go supernova tonight and light up the NBA galaxy… while leaving the Suns to get sucked into the resulting supermassive black hole. Prediction: Cavs 112, Suns 84.
Kyrie with his first 20-point game of the season.
Gotta get the board there… Nobody guarding the middle… just like against GSW…
Woooooooo Kyrie!!!
WOW, thank you Love and Kyrie. Thank you Kevin and Kyrie. Thank you for putting Love in the game.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME KYRIE??? WELCOME BACK!!
Our real closer just knocked a little more rust off…..
Indeed, KI is absolutely our closer. I hope LeBron realizes that soon. Kid has ice in his veins.
That’ll be an interesting dynamic this season and the next.
JR smith with a monster save
Oh what a possession there………… Bungled by Kyrie, and then salvaged by him with the buzzer-beating 3.
whooiiiiiiiiii, I had to scream out, everyone is looking at me, MR 4th Quarter
Ugh, i cant wait for greener pastures. Losing or being challenged against bad teams is really irritating.
Man JR SAVED that one!!!
HAHA. BY THE SKIN OF THEIR TEETH.
KYRIE!!!!!!!!!!!
Part of that last possession was Kyrie not taking the mid-ranger when Phoenix iced the P/R.
Chandler gets away with a lot of veteran crap. Delly should be in right now…he’s the shooter we can count on. Dude doesn’t feel pressure
Finally a Cavs call
Sit the F down Chandler…
big rebound by TT, if I was Kyrie, I wouldnt have even pass it back to Lebron to be honest
Defensive three seconds like crazy!!!!
Bullet dodged (so far)
Good call. Stupid screen.
A step-back 3 by LeBron is exactly the shot we want. (Not.)
Finally get a call!!!!!!
LBJ looked pretty bad on that sequence…
WHY LEBRON WHY????
big rebound by TT
First time Delly doesn’t close
Not much more Shump could have done there…
We should be ahead by 15 and that shot shouldn’t matter…instead we are feeling pressure
Col’s would like this page of comments, lol.
Please take Lebron out of the game, please
Ugh…Lebron is driving me crazy. Give the ball to Irving and get out of the way
Sheesh. LeBron with an absolutely awful possession and his team bails him out with an o-board and a floater by Irving.
Lebron with his dumb ass Leisos, thank God for JR with the save and Kyrie being MR 4th quater
I just wish this franchise had someone to tell Lebron to get his head out of his a&&. His decision making has generally been awful this year.
TGFK…. Thank God For Kyrie…
LeBron with some bad Le-ISO!
WTF is Lebron doing?
Wouldn’t mind Kendrick Perkins shoving Danny Crawford
Tucker should be fined for that FLOP on the LBJ rebound!
He fell twice lol
This team just lost to the sixers
It feels like we have sooo much fouls, but actually Suns have more than us
WTF with these calls.
That was clearly off booker!! What the hell?!
I am so sick of these REFS!!!
This ref crew should be ashamed…
These refs are stupid!!!!!!!!
Unusually high number of turnovers for delly
I’ll never understand why we stop running an offense towards the end of games.
We are winning this game because guys are making weird shots. We look so out of sorts. Thank goodness we have talent.
How does this end? Lebron ISO?
Kyrie please be Mr 4th quarter!!!!
God answered your prayers so far
Big shot by Shump!
I don’t know how TJ Warren makes those shots… so flat…
25.8 pts, 7.6 rebounds and 6.1 assists.
I want a Cavs Monsters jersey….
No JR in the closing mins?
WTF why don’t we just cut Lebron??
People getting emotional thus irrational
Put K-Love in for Lebron, please
No need to aggravate the injury though…
He is fine. There is no injury.
If there weren’t… he’d be in there…
Suns have scored 12 points in last 11:59 at least. They had 70 at 5;54 of the 3rd Q.
On a positive note… Cavs have only given up one O-Board this half… after giving up 10 in first half…
I rather Delly at the point, he runs some type of offense, Lebron just dribbles and makes a move with 8 seconds to go or so, everyone else just standing there watching to shoot a jumpshot off a drive and kick. #Delly4MVP
That was the stupidest play Lebron
TT with great D on an island.
Lebron plz move the ball like we did when you sat. We were friggin rolling Blatt…cmon.
I’ve felt this way all season, although we probably nitpick Lebron more than most. We always seem to be more fluid a team without him out there LeISOing, gambling on D, or pouting when he doesn’t get a call. I hate his body language. Like I said, probably being too nitpicky…or maybe not.
Shump must have thought he used up his quota of made 3’s for the night — passes up an open shot and dribbles into the defense.
I would have rather he took that shot even if he missed than lose it they way he did
Brandon Knight loves to push off defenders with his off hand.
Gotta chuck the roller, there.
Shump! Just shoot the ball you weirdo!
Shump needs to work on his ballhandling
Says everyone who’s watched Shump since high school.
Shump has lost the ball a lot tonight. Hair is too top heavy causing his balance to be off
now that explains it… lol
Shump shouldn’t have put the ball on the floor there…
