Live Thread: Raptors @ Cavs, Game 1
2016-05-17The Cavaliers finally get to recommence their 2016 playoff run tonight against the Toronto Others… er, Raptors.
The Raptors hit The Q trying to keep the momentum of their closeout game against the Miami Heat going. That win propelled the team into the franchise’s first ever appearance in the Eastern Conference Finals and a date with the Cavaliers. Despite winning the season series against the Cavs 2-1, Toronto finished a game behind the wine and gold for the Eastern Conference’s top seed and have not looked nearly as sharp as their Conference Finals opponent in advancing through the first two rounds of the playoffs.
DeMar DeRozan leads the Raptors in scoring this postseason at 20 points a game and right behind him is his starting backcourt mate and resident bulldog, Kyle Lowry, at 18.6 points and 6.7 assists per game. The two Raptors All-Stars are shooting just 36% from the floor over 14 playoff games, though, as the entire team has struggled to score the ball. The Raptors also took a hit when they lost starting center Jonas Valenciunas to an ankle injury. Valenciunas is out for, at least, the first two games of this series.
The Cavs have been off since May 8th — a span of nine days — since their Conference Semi-Finals series against the Atlanta Hawks that saw Cleveland creep back into the conversation as a possible title contender, regardless of which team comes out of the West. The biggest question facing the Cavs is whether or not they will be able to keep up the torrid three-point shooting that carried them through much of the first two rounds.
If the Cavs have any rust, they’ll have to shake it off quick if they want to avoid a let down against a Raptors team determined to show that they are more than just the “Other” of the 2016 NBA Playoffs.
Love is still UPG

That was an absolute demolition. Nothing left on the court. Nothing for Toronto.
Shump really had a solid game offensively, glad he hit that 3 as well

5 dunks, 4 layups, 2 “other” shots, for 11-13 from the field wow ….that’s the LeBron we love, attacking the rim
LBJ’s shooting chart tonight…
LeBron was making an opening for Bugs Bunny to pop out of.

ESPN’s shot chart shows everything in the restricted area except the second-half three he missed. So I wonder what the other “other” shot was.

K love”s double double streak comes to an end
But his playoff win streak doesn’t! #LilKev
I think the Raps are going to have to change their defensive strat for game 2…
JVG summing up the night: “Assault on the rim.”
Man what the heck. So many empty seats. I know it’s a snooze but cmon. Weak.
Jurassic park looking quiet tonight
A Mo jumper a few minutes ago

Wonder if Drake is still watching?
Just hold on, he’s going home…
Cavs basically doubling up on the boards 43-21 ,only bad thing ,16 turnovers
Moz is the master of getting a hand in the shooter’s face after the shot is away.
It really is amazing how he is a half second late….every time…
Wow! What a pass from Mo to RJ!
And Moz with the finish

Kinda surprised Raps didn’t play Norman sooner…
Sooo close to a JFJ!

Soooo close to a Mozzy score!
Moz still has bad hands…
He’s got a couple of boards tho…
McRae and Kaun are the unlucky two in street clothes tonight. Everyone else has played.
Kyrie the minutes high man with 30… not too shabby!
Cavs fans only leave early when their team is playing garbage time in a win…
Mo almost broke the screen on the sideline ad roller with that pass…
Frye hits a not-3

Is there a way for the Cavs to take a knee so this can end sooner?
Rimcheck! Yep! Still there!
https://vine.co/v/i0TJ5FhXqBT
Shump hits from 3. Cavs are 7-17, 41% from deep. Not bad. Shooting 61% overall.

Has anyone but me seen this movie?

Lue is outstanding at preparing this team.
Everything Is Awesome
Thanks EG, always on time

Mo on the board
RJ LOVES that reverse dunk/layup!
LOL… Mo just ran like 15 steps with that ball…
Mo looked so good in Novemebr.
Probably because it was MOvember… boy am I lame…
Re Simmo: Toronto looks like they need more than a week off. Toronto looks like they need a summer off…
A summer of contemplation…about trades.
Green flash Styrian golding is outstanding btw. As is Anderson Valley briny melon gose.
I never had. Send me one
You two guys should talk more craft beer… embrace the common ground!
Banana bread is a very underrat d snack.
Hey. Mo !!!
Bring in Moz. And that other guy.
Central intelligence looks dumb.
I think it looks fun. I enjoyed the Rush Hours movies, so…
The Cavs bench has just been outstanding. I get that they play with LeBron a lot, but they are complimenting him perfectly and and to a man they are all doing their jobs so well. Frye canning 3s when he’s open, moving the ball when he’s not. RJ is playing outstanding defense, running the floor, and hitting open corner 3s. Delly is keeping the offense moving, keeping the turnovers down, and finding the roll man. Shumpert has looked better too. I feel like every single player is playing his best ball of the season minus LeBron, TT, and Delly. And… Read more »
Love. Irving. And LeBron. That’s why we win.
These Verizon commercials suck
Would like to see TT out of there…
This is a clobberin’. I’ll take 3 more, please.
Scola just straight up slamming into Frye…
I feel bad for any advertisers who booked time for this quarter. No one will be watching this game outside of Cleveland
Anyone have the Citradellic yet? So tummy
At this rate… they may only get to 99… jeez… so many fouls…
Enough of the sympathy foul calls!
Refs checked their board and realized Delly only had 1 foul so we can’t have that
I do expect us to continue to play this well, but I think a lot of this beat down was a result of poor preparation on Toronto’s part. They just finished a 7 game series and had basically 1 day to get ready for the juggernaut Cavs.
The game was over in the first half. I think they overcompensated for our 3 point prowess and never recovered. I haven’t seen us score this easily at the rim in a long time.
I think the Toronto coaching will adjust and they’ll come out fighting in Game 2.
With that said, Toronto will probably overcompensate to stop our penetration and we’ll hit about 20 threes in Game 2 haha.
They won’t give up. But I don’t the there is much they can do. We won’t win by 30 every game but there’s a lot of room for error.
I agree. Toronto probably has the worst defense we’ve faced in the playoffs. At least Detroit and Atlanta made us hit tough shots. I haven’t seen us score this easily in awhile.
Jefferson is good I defense in the playoffs

Might just go to bed early.
I didn’t think we’d dominate this game as much as we did. I figured we’d be rusty and Toronto would be sharp. We were rusty on our first 4-5 possessions and then we kicked it into gear.
This. Team. Is. Good.
WE WANT THE RUSSIANS!
Even I wouldn’t have predicted this beat down.
Guess the lead isn’t big enough to chance putting in Moz…
With this lead we might even see Moz
Irving has been unstoppable all playoffs.
Time for Delly to dominate…
Delly floatah! 30-point lead.

Game 2 will be in Cleveland on Thursday…if necessary!
Glad Toronto made it this far, like the effort of their team. But they learned their place in the basketball hierarchy this evening.
Nice to see Delly finally have a good game.
Delly!!!!
Extinction level event indeed. Toronto look like they need a week off ;)
Check out the rebounding totals for this game. Never seen something like that at the third quarter
