Live Thread: Warriors @ Cavs, NBA Finals Game 3
2016-06-08 Off By Mike Schreiner“Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things.” This famous line from The Shawshank Redemption may best encapsulate the feelings of the Cleveland Cavaliers and their fans. Down 2-0 in a best-of-seven series to the Golden State Warriors, a team that set the record for most wins in the regular season with 73, hope may be all that the Cavaliers have left.
But hope really is a wonderful thing. Without hope, what would be the point of watching basketball unless you were a Warriors fan? Even in this age of analytics, anything can happen, and that’s why we watch the games. We hope that the Cavaliers will play better defense. We hope they do a better job of moving the ball on offense. We hope that Kyrie Irving realizes he has made 8-of-9 baskets in the series when shooting after a pass, and just 4-of-27 when trying to score in isolation. We hope that the Cavaliers can win the rebounding and turnover battles in the same game for the first time this series, despite being without Kevin Love. We hope that Tyronn Lue‘s probable decision to start small by playing Richard Jefferson in Love’s place doesn’t play right into the Warriors’ hands. We hope that LeBron James finds his jumpshot. We hope that Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson continue to play like mere mortals. We hope that Leandro Barbosa realizes he is a mere mortal. We hope to not be confronted with the reality of Anderson Varejao active on the floor in the Finals for the other team. We hope to make this series more competitive than it has been. We hope to shut the mouths of members of the national media who fawn over the Warriors and rip Greater Cleveland and the people who choose to live there as if that is what they are paid to do. We hope—as impossible as it sounds—to make one of the most miraculous comebacks in sports history and end a 52-year championship drought.
We hope.
Jeff Van Gundy again with my thoughts. Is an offense that relies on iso contested js sustainable for this team?
Lebron is truly crap tonight, by his standards
My thought as well…then he hits that three.
Maybe Curry hooking LBJ pissed him off…
YES! Kyrie went OVER the screen!
HUGE shot by JR there
Daaaaaang Tristan. Nice defense.
Hey Lebron jumpshot missed you lately..
https://vine.co/v/i3dKI2UIarX
That is some weak stuff by Curry to get the foul on James. But karma: He turns it over against TT.
LE-BLOCK!!!
So sweet that it was on Braymond too!
TT play of the game!!
Man… what is wrong with LeBron?
Thinking ahead here if the Cavs get the W tonight with RJ in the starting line up will coach Lue sit him when KLove comes back?
Lebron just all over the place but Cavs role players stepping up where needed….cant imagine Kerry keeping Bogut out there any longer….Curry is just plain horrible…how was this guy unanimous mvp…like come on…at very least he should be dropping 20 a game…once Lebron gets s*** together Cavs can run away with this
I say go PnR with Lebron JR/Kyrie as long as they can switch and attack Steph.
Do the Cavs really have 0 bench points?
Yeah so far, unless Kev suddenly plays smh.
Yep. Think our bench could be ok. We just don’t actually run an offense. Role players do better when u have a system that creates easy shots.
Wtf are they doing on offense right now? I mean smith made that but the Irving drive into 4 guys, the smith contested fadeaway…why can’t we just try to make offense easy for ourselves?
Can’t stand the look on Lebron’s face. Play angry, tear them up!
I wonder if LeBron is playing this way because he’s got to be at the four. He hates that position. I don’t get why.
Nice JR!
I think they’re really trying to attack Steph
Well, he does have three fouls…
JR Swish!!
https://vine.co/v/i3dZXFb7btQ
They called a moving screen on Bogut?!!! Wow, hell must have frozen over, haha.
Crazy shot by TT, but I’ll take any pick and roll we can get…
I have never seen a finals team with a worse starting lineup than the Warriors.
I have never seen a finals team with a worse bench than the Cavs.
The 2007 Cavs want a word on both the starters and the bench.
Would be great if Ky can stay hot in the third…
Curry lucky not to get the foul there on JR. Bogut instead.
Wow is LBJ intimidated on that last drive??
If you don’t fight through, they will never call the illegal screen. Awesome job there JR
PnR Kyrie to TT
https://vine.co/v/i3d7Fl76gnZ
That Irving play is in his DNA….he’s never going to clear that out
Nice one Kyrie!!

TT has a better free throw stroke than LeBron in the playoffs
Good D
Can you imagine, after having 33 points in the first, Cavs shooting 44 % VS GSW’s 50% after only 16 points in the first.
Key so far, rebounds and 21 points off of turnovers
Make it count TT!!
Ball movement is still the key to the Cavs offense, and despite the lead, they didn’t do enough of it in the first half. According to ESPN Stats & Info, just 16 of Cleveland’s 48 shots came directly off a pass. The Cavs were 11-for-16 on those shots, and just 10-for-32 on their other shots
Now why can’t we move the ball more? Its so frustrating to watch everyone just stand there and look at Lebron at the elbow.. I mean these are paid professionals
Alright step it up further.. Let’s go Cavs!!
Tristan has played out of his mind
I’m so confused as to why Kenny Smith said he heard two buzzers and one backboard light showed JR’s shot off and the other didn’t? Did anyone notice that?

I keep saying it, but xs and os wise their offense needs to change drastically this offseason. Why? Because our current “offense” just does not generate easy looks against decent defenses.
Silver is more of a wiener than Stern.
If Lebron does not dominate the paint, I don’t care how many times he gets fouled without a whistle, if he doesn’t go in there and just kill people, Cavs won’t win this game.
Lebron fading on every layup..Draymond in his head…Lebron has to go strong to basket…refs will start calling those fouls…believe draymond has 3 fouls..curry doing nothing so Cavs have to have mix of 1st/2nd quarter to keep this lead to double digits
So Lebron attempts a dunk. Draymond Green hits just about every part of Lebron’s arm, except the ball … and Mark Jackson comments, “That was a good contest by Draymond there”.
I have to agree with that. He was straight up.
I hate Jackson. His favoritism of GS is mind boggling.
I think they’re still paying him off from his last contract…
Draymond got ball, but Lebron needs to pound them down low, just relentlessly
I guess I saw a different replay cause Dray wasn’t close to the ball.
He never touched the ball… only LBJ’s arm… go back and look
“The refs get it right 90% of the time.” – Adam Silver
SMH
Maybe he said 19 and you misheard.
Cavs have to find a way to get Frye some spot ups in the second half…
Problem with Frye is that his defense is quite horrid. It really blows cause we need his offense.
Hard to believe LBJ is 5-14, yet has only been to the line once…
Lue or someone has to get a t at some point. They should be sending game film to the league every game. Also I just don’t think he is going to get those calls, which is why our offense needs to change drastically.
How I wish Ty had at least a little SVG or Doc in him on that front…
Yeah. Blatt was passive, or more passive than he was overseas, but Lue, has he gotten a tech all year?
Just imagine if Lebron had the Finals Curry is having, what kind of bulls**t he would have to live with, especially in his prime. Curry, on the other hand, is courted as the next Jordan, even though he has shrunk, both this year and last, and have his team be picked up by his teammates time and time again.
Well it is true they have missed a bunch at the rim but they are driving into 2-3 guys usually. Why, because most of their attempts have come from iso drives or screens. Easy to load up on the slasher when no one else is moving. They need to kick out on drives and if the warriors close whoever gets the kickout needs to put it on the deck and drive and then at the same time other people need to move off ball if the warriors shut that down. It would help if we constantly moved without the ball… Read more »
Hanging in there on the strength of the first quarter, but generally reverting to form. Standing around, not helping well on D. Really could have used some hot shooting by JR to blow it open.
Great fight from TT and Jefferson. Need better play from Shump and Delly.
10 rebounds from TT, and hardly any of them were the cheapo defensive rebounds, with 3 teammates standing around him…
The third quarter is going to be huge for either team. Cavs absolutely need to play with intensity and purpose.
Lue needs to tell LeBron and Ky to MOVE WITHOUT THE BALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is there really only 14 comments on the Live thread?
313 and counting
Weird. I hit refresh 3 times, and it still only showed the first 14 comments. Then I posted, and the rest magically appeared
It happens lol
I don’t know if I am happy or sad for being up 8 at the half. Firstly, I Think of the first quarter and say to myself “Damn, we should have blown this game wide open by now”, and then I remember the second and feel OK, fortunate even, to be up this much. This team is so frustrating. And they still can’t handle prosperity, it seems.
It’s not too pleasant, because the Warriors played about as bad a quarter as they can play…Cavs really had a chance to step on their neck. But that was a horrific stretch in the 2nd quarter…
Wow…total crap from Lebron with the ball. We should be up by 25 easy. They better come out as hungry as they were in the 1st quarter
Do enough people even patronize KFC to warrant the billions they’re spending on advertising?
I used to. Nowhere near as much now. The quality of the restaurants around me are manned by high school dropouts that don’t give two sh!ts about anything.
On my own DVR review… that looked like JR got it off in time
Too bad, that extra dribble…
JR looked like JR after hitting that, even if it didn’t count. Love that he can be himself…just need to win games
That’s a great point Kevin
Even though he didn’t beat the buzzer, that could be huge make for JR
Series changing for him possibly
If Lebron doesn’t bring it 2nd half, Cavs have no chance
Counted????
Oh farts.
Woulda been nice…
https://vine.co/v/i3wL1tetr5b
Lebron officially sucks right now…his brain isn’t working fast enough
Lebron is killing us
LOL… they give him a foul on the most ticky tack foul of the night…
make up call
Wow Livingston on an ISO
Is it even possible for Lebron to finish worse at the rim??
Thank god for Thompson this quarter
https://vine.co/v/i3w3JXAqTiH
Every single Lebron shot is complete utter crap
