Live Thread: Cavs @ Raptors (#NorthernExposure)
2016-10-28On the same night that the Cleveland Indians play Game 3 of the World Series in Chicago against the Cubs, the Cavaliers head back to a familiar place north of the border for Game 2 of the regular season. At this point, you’d have to believe that the residents of Toronto, and fans of their sports teams are probably pretty sick of all things Cleveland related. After all, both basketball and baseball clubs used their corresponding representatives of The Six as a springboard to the Championship round of their respective sports. As seen above, Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan had front row seats to the latter after getting beaten on the court for the former back in May. Maybe the city should apply for an NFL team…
But, for all of the losing Toronto has done to Cleveland lately, Lowry thinks he might have figured out a plan to overcome the bullies from the South this season. After all, the Raps actually fared pretty well in the Air Canada Centre in the Eastern Conference Finals last year, winning Games 3 & 4 at home before finally succumbing in Game 6 in The Six. They also brought the fire to a pre-season game at the Q two weeks ago, when Lowry went off for 25 points in just 20 minutes of play. The game didn’t count, but the Raptors sure looked eager to deliver some payback to the Cavs.
The Raptors come off of their resounding victory over the Pistons in their Opening Night performance on Wednesday, where they blew out Detroit behind a 40 point explosion from DeRozan and a 32 point/11 rebound performance from Jonas Valanciunas. The Cavs, after a close first half against the Knicks, also scored a convincing 29 point laugher at New York’s expense. LeBron James notched the first Opening Night triple-double (19/14/11) since Jason Kidd had one to kick off the 2007 season, and the Cavs celebrated their “ring night” in style. With another strong rebounding night tonight, LBJ could potentially become the franchise all time leader (he needs 11 defensive boards to pass Big Z).
Toronto will be without Jared Sullinger (left foot surgery) and Delon Wright (right shoulder surgery), while Lucas Noguiera (sprained left ankle) is questionable. The Cavs should have both Iman Shumpert and Kay Felder (concussion protocol) back in action, but will be missing Channing Frye as he was excused from traveling with the team with the passing of his mother, Karen Mulzac-Frye, after a long battle with cancer (our thoughts and condolences go out to Channing and his family in this difficult time).
Raptors probable starting lineup: Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan, DeMarre Carroll, Pascal Siakam and Jonas Valanciunas. Cavs probable starting lineup: Kyrie Irving, JR Smith, LeBron James, Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson.
Gametime is 7pm EST, and the action will be televised on ESPN.
Prediction: Cavs overcome a slow start to bring another loss to The North, and eke this one out 104-101.
The Tribe might make it tough to tune in much for this one after the first quarter or so, but chime in as you can… and GO CAVS!
We weren’t imagining the bad ball and strike calls. Al Leiter on MLB Network said there were 10 pitches in the strike zone that were called balls, and 8 of them were in favor of the Cubs; there were 9 pitches out of the zone that were called strikes, and 8 of those favored the Cubs. Based on whatever automated pitch tracker they use, I’m sure.
Cleveland against the world!
What a night! Amazing pitching by these guys. Even survived the error in the 9th. Phew! Wish Kluber didn’t have to go on 3 days.
This is the Indians’ first 2-1 lead in the World Series since…1948.

Love that stat. EG, what do you think would be more surprising: What the Cavs did coming back from 3-1 or if the Tribe wins the Series with their injuries?
Sounds weird to say, but probably the Tribe… I mean the Cavs have LeBron at least… I just can’t believe that they’ve done this with these guys…
Miller and Allen both threw less than 20 pitches. No problem coming back tomorrow.

Great
What. A. Ballgame.
That postseason record of 5 shutouts is amazing considering no Carrasco, almost no Salazar, little Bauer…
UNBELIEVABLE!!!! BELIEVELAND!!
Great final pitch!
Everyone thought the low breaking ball was coming
No way the batter could resist the piece of junk.
TRIBE WINS!!!!!!!!
This the exquisite agony you mean, Phil?
Eerrgggggggghhhhh….
Cavs give me confidence that Allen will finish it in the 9th
I really the commentary of John Smoltz.
really like
Wow… Shaw vs. Schwarber could have ended so badly… Glad Shaw got it done!
Impressive crowd at Progressive Field.
Exquisite agony. One more inning to go…
Whew… Shaw drives me crazy…
Yes! Narrow escape!
Napoli showing some athleticism with a nice play at first.
Coco has been clutch. What was Davis thinking? God knows we can use another run
Stupid taking Miller out… HATE NL RULES!!
I’d leave Miller in and have him bunt…
Wild Pitch!!
This game is ridiculous… I’ve never hated NL rules as much as I do now… Just get a DH already!
I don’t like the bunt because it raises the odds they’ll have to pinch-hit for Miller.
Agree… why pinch run for Robo if you’re just going to bunt anyway?

Josh Tomlin is the ultimate underdog… so amazing how far he came after being out of the rotation in August…
I actually hate this move… Let Tomlin get this guy and control his own destiny…
A double switch! Wow, National League rules are so exciting!
Man, AD’s teammates suck. The Brow clock is ticking..
I actually think he might be the big man that winds up in LA with the Lakers… Just a suspicion… I think it would be a trade between the Cans and the Lakers where NO would get a bunch in return…
Hmm.. Him, DLo and Ingram/Clarkson. With NO, getting high lottery picks and Randle. That would be a dream scenario for LA. It will all depend if Ingram is the real deal.
Also AD, PG & CP3 in Indiana teaming up together since they can’t win. That’s suffocating defense at its finest. But of course well beat them until Lebron’s too old.
Can’t believe Frankie hit into the twin killing. So many missed opps
Well, that was about the worst outcome from that Lindor at bat…
AGREE WITH YOU EVIL ON TY’S ROTATIONS —-WILL SEE MORE SUBS TOMORROW VS THE MAGIC
Bases loaded after Hendricks plunks Kipnis (who wasn’t having a particularly good at bat anyway) Maddon yanks him!
Tribe most dangerous hitter coming up. For gods sake, Frankie, at least get a sac fly. NO POP UP NO GROUND OUT
Impressive early season win. Raps wanted this one bad.
I think that’s why Lue played it the way he did…
Don’t give them anything to build on…
Yep, kill any slight confidence they have
How many game winners does Kyrie have? It’s great
I don’t have the total, but I think this is his 2nd dagger in Toronto. The other was on his 2nd year I think.. Both on air Canada centre

Good live thread with tribe on
Good win with LBJ in chill mode. It’s a good sign that the Cavs are getting W’s with LBJ not having to play mayor minutes.
Let’s hope they keep playing like this.
FRYE WAS OUT FOR US SULLINGER FOR THEM —ACTUALLY I THINK US NOT HAVING CHANNING HURTS US MORE THAN THE RAPTORS NOT HAVING SULLY
Especially the way that Poeltl played…
And now go Pelicans.

Two and ohmigod that was ugly.
It was against the second best team in the conference who were trying to make a statement at home…
Oh yeah. Ugly second half though. Winning ugly is always better than losing pretty.
Also 2 consecutive games in terms of all Big 3 guys played at least good.. I really want our 3 guys to make the all-star team starting this season
Huh… Kyrie and Lowry have their own handshake drill… must have come from the Olympics…
LBJ already looking pissed at teammates haha
Should never have come to that… but 2-0 anyway!
I think they got 0.4 seconds.
For 2 seconds remaining? Really?
