Live Thread: Cavs vs. Warriors (#SilverLinings)
2018-01-15Just when you thought it was safe to watch a Cavs game again… along comes the annual MLK matchup with the Golden State Warriors. Who could forget the last two occasions? Last season, the defending Champs got housed by 35 in an embarrassing loss in the Bay Area… yet, it didn’t seem quite as horrific as the MLK Massacre of 2016 that ultimately cost David Blatt his job. Still, losing by a combined 69 points on this particular holiday has inspired more nightmares than dreams for the Cavaliers and their faithful.
If that wasn’t depressing enough, this year’s tilt comes on the heels of one of the roughest rough patches the wine & gold has experienced in the LeBron 2.0 era. The Cavs have lost three straight (in spectacular fashion), five of their last seven and eight of their last 11. They’ve looked out of sync on offense, and almost non-existent on defense, struggling to work out their rotations on both ends of the floor. Ty Lue doesn’t seem to have answers, outside of the cryptic “agenda” narrative. LeBron seems at a loss. Even the ever positive Isaiah Thomas is a bit down… calling his first two decent games “fools gold” after going just 5-26 from the field in his last two games.
Okay… enough of the bad news. The good news is that the Cavs are returning home to the Q, where they still own a 13 game winning streak (easy enough to forget with 17 of the last 20 days spent on the road). Cleveland is 15-4 at home, third best record in the NBA, and LeBron is averaging nearly a triple double in games at the Q this season (29.5 ppg, 9.5 rpg and 9.9 apg). Yes, they’re facing a fully healthy Warriors team (Steph Curry missed the Christmas Day game at their place), which has been on a tear since Curry returned, winning 12 straight on the road. However, there’s something to be said for having your collective back against the wall… especially against a team you are desperate to beat.
The recipe for disaster is there for sure, and there’s every reason to believe this could be another crushing MLK blowout given how good the Dubs have been and how bad the Cavs have been lately. Yet, the Cavs have rarely done the expected thing this season… and pulling out a win against the defending Champs would be just the kind of weird end to this rough patch that nobody would see coming.
Prediction: The Cavs clear away the dark clouds and find a silver lining amongst the Golden onslaught… taking a close one 110-108.
Again, I have no idea if this will come to pass… although the last three games I covered (Bulls, Blazers, Magic) just happened to be the three games the Cavs won during this 11 game stretch… so there’s another silver lining.
Catch all the action starting at 8pm EST on TNT… and, as always… chime in here!
Isaiah’s jumper is just not there. He has to stop forcing it.
It isn’t shy this half shooting from deep
Terrible call…
Felt better when Ira Newble took open 3’s than I do about Crowder.
Draymond straight up tackling IT right there
At least IT drew the contact from Dray…
Big Three , Kev, follwoed by a big block.
Another three!
IT stop shooting from deep
Hunk of burning Love
Crowder has to hit those corners
IT puts SO much pressure on the D when he drives!
Bad switch. LBJ needs to chase curry there. Love too far to bother him
Kev with the three AND THE BLOCK!
IT will eventually hit those… but the miss is a guranteed GSW three on the other end…
positive from clueless tonight is calling timely timeouts tonight
You can’t let Curry dunk on you…
That should be automatic victory for the Dubs…
Cavs not gettting back on D…
Typical start to the third…I think the Cavs munch qualudes in the locker room…
Again. I don’t want to see forced threes. Longer bounds give more chances for the dubs to run.
Love watching rebound go right by him
Oh no here we go. Got to attack guys!!
Horrible third qtrs coming to fruition
Will be interested to see if the warriors adjust to it drives by keeping guys home
If Durant gets defensive player of the year, the award should be retired.
Webber smh
To be fair, he has been an anchor for them in the middle. His d rating is pretty amazing if I recall.
Crow-doh!
Bron and Love both stared at that rebound. I guess Love thought this was a night where he was supposed to let James hunt for the triple double.
Low-energy start to the second half giving up that offensive board.
Holy ****! We finally got a new Jim Beam commercial from Mila Kunis. It’s only been like 4 years…
LOL It’s not much of an upgrade
Got to keep the energy up and don’t turn the ball over please.
Best stat: 64 Cavs pts with only 3 made from deep
Should shake the perimeter loose a bit. JR needs to start letting it fly.
I just want them to continue to be decisive. If the shot isn’t open immediately Drive. If the Drive gets closed, pass. They just need to do things with purpose. Being decisive will get them better shots than forcing threes if they aren’t there.
Last game the warriors did a great job defending the Cavs shooters at the 3 point line and JR made adjustment and is driving the ball now.
HAHA! Trevor Ariza singing “Tell me why!”
Yup, really bad lol.
Hope Curry gets an early 4th foul, so we can perhaps see mouthpiece throw 2.0
Would love that. But after the stink those children (Curry, Green, Thompson, Kerr) made over it, I don’t think we’ll see him get ejected for anything less than punching someone again.
Cavs bench actually has an advantage against Dubs bench – McCaw, Livingston, West, Iguodala, Looney, etc arent too formidable offensively
Casspi being out hurting them. He’s been arguably their best bench guy. And West and Iguodala are definitely good. West is off tonight.
First time in awhile Livingston hasn’t hurt Cavs. Should add so far I guess
True. He seems to have slipped some this season.
Aside from Thommas, the Cavs are MUCH longer.
Shaq making criticisms on Cavs. He’s right on every point
Except Cavs played great D on both those last two possessions, and 1) Curry made a really tough shot, and 2) an unexpected airball led to a putback. Bad examples. I’ll take how the Cavs played both those possessions any day.
He was referring mostly to this past dozen games. He didn’t say anything we didn’t know but yes you are right in this specific game
james was awesome , wade great , jea great on defensive end , isaih solid , green solid , love very solid, korver solid on both ends , tt sucked , jr sucked
Per Windhorst, 38 Cavs points in the paint…going three happy in the third likely a sure recipe for defeat…
Kenny showing why IT can help… two dudes converged on him leaving LBJ wide open for the alley oop…
He has done a nice job penetrating. If I were the warriors I wouldn’t send help unless curry is on him. I would just let him try to finish over whoever is guarding him.

with a decent coach we would be such a damn good team, d wade was great besides for stupid jumpers, jr shouldnt be playing , tt shouldnt be playing , love should be taught how to deal with a screen , those can all be solved by a functional coach , and we would be up by 15, fire lue = big chance to win championship, keep lue=automatic loss and not even close
Great first half.
Let’s keep it going.
Cavs play like this against any EC team they win by 15-20
That little kid is cute. Shaq calling him Kevin Hart. LoL
https://twitter.com/NBAonTNT/status/953090881044733952
that was an awesome finish.
Cavs hold Dubs to 22 second quarter points… down to 47% shooting from mid 50s…
Well we have a good ball game guys.
Let’s hope the Cavs keep the energy high for the full 48.
Hell of a finish…both teams mixing sloppy but incredible ball…warriors bench stinks cavs have to take advantage in second half
They don’t normally.
Really good 2nd qtr for Cavs…can they avoid the third qtr swoon?
Wade with a SPECTACULAR play. Wow. Play of the game so far.
Can’t get enough of this….
https://twitter.com/NBAonTNT/status/953090284555968512
THat was exciting finish Wade and Green… Cavs fans feel a little warm and fuzzy inside for a few moments..
besides turnover moods , best game thus far from the king , hes freaken unreal
WTF was LeBron doing on that possession? Lucky Wade bailed his butt out and a spectacular oop on the other end
JEFF GREEN. SENSATIONAL.
Best half in a while…
Three from id to end the qtr, I am calling it
Or not, wowser
Haha
Is the stream working?
Yeah amazingly, thanks. I think it is actually ahead of TNT, since it looks like raw feed.
Don’t go to the casino !
Wow!!
Very very Vintage
REwind that!!!! Wade
That was a nice punctuation mark to the half.
VINTAGE!!!!!!
And the fouls start to pile up. The eye of sauron from the league’s marketers is completely on the refs to end the quarter.
Freaking durant.
Wade is creative tonight!
Terrible pass by LEBron there. Take two dribbles and then pass that from a better angle.
i cant get over how bad smith is on both ends
Keep the focus guys!
James was way too far out for that pass over fronting curry
