Live Thread: Cavs vs Knicks
2021-01-15Cleveland welcomes the Knickerbockers tonight for the fourth game (including preseason) these two teams have played since December. Cleveland has a hefty injury list, but given that their two games against Washington this weekend were canceled, this might be the last time for a while that we have to deal with a woefully incomplete roster.
Frank Ntilikina and Alec Burks are put for New York while the list is as follow for Cleveland, with Jarrett Allen and Taurean Prince also out due to having not cleared their physicals. The good news is that Andre should play.
SEXTON NEEDS TO GET HIS ‘LEGS ‘ BACK
Glad Windler is ready to go even if he cannot play tonight. Even if Garland is out, Sexton looks to be back. And Allen + Prince are ready to go.
So 3 guys back tonight, 1 maybe, and 1-2 more Friday.
YES –WOULD BE GOOD IF SEXTON CAN GIVE US SOME MINUTES TONIGHT —-MAN IT SEEMS LIKE FOREVER SINCE THE LAST CAVS GAME —–KYRIE FINALLY GOING TO PLAY AGAINST THE CAVS IN CLEVELAND —WE SHALL SEE—–JUST ANXIOUS TO SEE CAVS PLAY AGAIN AND THE NEW GUYS /ALLEN PRINCE —-WELCOME BACK A.C. ALTHOUGH THEY SHOULD STILL GIVE MINUTES TO ANGEL / THOUGHT SHE DID A GREAT JOB IN A.C.’S ABSENCE

hell yeah, great news!
Just having one of Sexton or Garland would be huge. (although they are going to get smoked by the Nets regardless)

Sigh.
Yeesh. I was sure they’d be a go for this one.
neverending nightmare LMFAO
UNITED WE STAND —–GOD BLESS AMERICA !!!!!!
SO DEJAVU/ WHAT ELSE IS NEW —SAME CAST OF PLAYERS OUT / AT LEAST WE HAVE REPLACEMENTS / AM EXCITED TO WATCH THE NEW GUYS —KYRIE EXPECTED TO BE WITH THE NETS —WILL HE ACTUALLY SUIT UP AND PLAY IN CLEVELAND / WHICH HE NEVER DOES SINCE HE LEFT —HIGHLY DOUBTFUL
I wonder if we could get Portland to give us something for Porter Jr. He is supposedly friends with Melo. He has legit all-star upside. Portland is gonna need an inside straight type draw to be contenders.
Maybe a late first or a disappointing young draft pick? How is Simons doing?
THINK THE ATTRACTION FOR ALLEN WAS NOT ONLY FOR HIS SIZE / SKILLS BUT ALSO FOR HIS BBIQ AND MORE IMPORTANT A QUALITY —HIGH CALIBER PERSON —A GOOD FIT IN WHAT KOBY/ JB ARE TRYING TO ESTABLISH HERE —–DO NOT FORGET ABOUT PRINCE / THINK HE MAY SURPRISE ALOT OF PEOPLE IN A GOOD WAY
Raptors waived Alex Len. This leaves them with Baynes who is playing terribly this year at 34 and has never eaten mins (15.8 per game this year and for his career) and Boucher (low min/high foul guy) as Cs on their roster. Possible that they are going forward with a lot more Siakam at C or are picking up another vet min guy, but a small possibility that they are looking to trade for a C.
Allen seems genuinely excited to be part of this team and under this staff. Takes some of the stink off the KPJ news.
Just read Fedor’s article on Allen, I know it’s a fluff piece, but I love the quote from Nance talking about Allen’s BBIQ. Nance is one of the highest BBIQ guys on the roster… that makes me giddy.
Nance or JB also talking about Allen’s a team player that impacts the game without the ball.
That’s something I believe makes Allen a better fit than Drummond long term because he won’t require touches/shots on offense at a below average efficiency.
Right now Allen is ranked 4th in the NBA among starters in TS % (73.5).
He also plays on a team with Durant and Irving commanding a lot more attention from the defense, and elite outside shooter (Harris), and better PG play (Dinwiddie, Irving).
Point being, he won’t be as efficient here. But still a good sign.
and i think my point is that he’s going to be better on offense because he doesn’t take 16 shots a game at an insanely bad TS% that Drummond does… in part because he recognizes how to play winning basketball, taking only high % shots and making them at an elite rate.
He’ll be better on offense if we can get him the ball on rolls enough. If that happens they probably will be more efficient. Remains to be seen if we can do that or are willing to do that consistently.
i don’t think they even need him to do that… that’s the point of Larry and JB’s comments and the stats I mentioned… he can impact the game WITHOUT the ball.
I agree he’ll draw a certain amount of attention on rolls. How much depends on whether teams actually sell out for the roll. Which depends on whether they think guards will find him consistently.
LMFAO it’s not just about the pick and roll, it’s that he won’t shoot dumb threes, or take wild shots off the dribble…. those things have a cumulative impact on winning!!! LMFAOOOO
LMFAO! I don’t think 7 threes on the season for Dre are really a massive impact. Frankly since Garland and Sexton have been out, darn near half the season they haven’t really been able to manufacture offense. Cedi hasn’t been consistent. Nance can’t get his own shot. None of the pgs (dotson, ferrell?) have been pgs. I expect a certain amount of forcing from the lone guy that teams probably actually consider a threat on their own with Sexton out. LMFAO, Allen isn’t going to magically solve offensive problems at the center. If he came back before the guards came… Read more »
Lmfao, a panacea on o at center he is not because he is so one dimensional. Also the reason he has good shot selection (good on him for recognizing that).
What is a panacea is any playmakers coming back. It would be with minutes for Dre because the offense gets someone else teams consider threats and they don’t have to rely on him to try to just generate a chunk of offense, or Allen because we get a guy that might actually make him a threat by being able to find him every once in awhile on a roll, albeit less than in BKN.
I will say Allen’s vastly superior free throw shooting makes it less likely that opponents just foul him and hope for a split.
Should help if we can get him the ball on the roll.
You mad John?? LMFAOOO
I don’t know what you’re trying to say here, but I can tell you that you’re wrong, Dre’s FGAs have remained pretty consistent with and without Sexland, which has remained and continually remain about 10 shots a game too many!!! LMFAOOO
No they haven’t, Dre’s scoring attempts are up almost 7 a game without Sexton.
Plus almost a whole TO per game as well.
From NBA.com that I’ve seen they’ve gone up about 2 FGAs a game from 15 to 17.
Scoring attempts include FTs which take up a possession. Drummond had 19 of them vs the Knicks which is another 8 or 9 possessions (depending on how many and 1 opportunities). Drummond is averaging 9.5 FTAs per game without Sexton and was averaging 4.75 with Sexton.
Of course we should be going per possession since he isn’t playing the same number of mins and the games aren’t played at identical paces but between shots, FTs and TOs Drummond is taking a significant amount more of the offensive burden without Sexton.
Oh, yeah not including that but thanks.
Oh yeah, I’m not talking about just when Sexland got injured, he was taking over 15 shots a game with Sexland, and definitely holding the offense back from peak efficiency earlier in the year.
Usage rate has been consistently above 30%, which is absolute insanity especially when Sexland was cooking.
It’s not insane, the Cavs are starting Nance who is low usage and a rookie SF who has a poorly developed offensive game, and none of their backups are high volume players. Even when Sexton and Garland were healthy there were still large chunks of time with one created out there with 2-3 other low usage players like Nance/Okoro/Dotson. Get three guys who are 15-20% usage and your other two have to average in the high 20s.
I would argue that Nance being low usage is not a point in favor of using Dre more… question is whether is that a coaching thing or a Nance thing.
I’m not disagreeing with you in your generalities, but none of that justifies using Dre over Sexland or Nance, which are much more efficient offensively.
Nance is not a guy that is capable of having high usage yet. Or maybe he hasn’t shown it. But he never has really been a guy you just give the ball to and go on the post or perimeter. Maybe that is a mentally thing or maybe that isn’t his best role.
I disagree… which is why I’ve argued it’s gotta be coaching thing. I think the PGs have never done a good enough job making sure he touches the ball, and surely nobody else has either when they’ve been out.
the data clearly shows he should be touching the ball every damn offensive possession especially since Sexland’s been out, and it has not.
If that is true about the guards not getting him the ball I don’t have great hopes for Allen having a huge impact on that end.
But I do think the is a difference between him getting touches in the flow of the offense and him being a primary option. This from a guy who wanted Nance to start over love.
He sort of reminds me of Draymond in that regard.
IMO, he should be the primary option in the absence of Sexton, DG, and Love…. I’d would had every haflcourt set beginning with a PnR with him or high post with the ball. What i’m seeing doesn’t prioritize him enough in terms of just touching the ball on offense. It’s a great exercise to watch the game that way, see when he touches the ball, then see what the result is.
Draymond honestly the perfect comp… agree 100%.
Nance is just not efficient as a scorer. His solid TS numbers are a reflection of him being good in transition and getting more transition opportunities than most bigs (thanks to his terrific steal rate). In terms of half court offense Nance is bad. Post ups he scores 0.55 ppp, or bottom 2% in the league this year and way below Andre. As a roll man in the PnR he scores 1.00 ppp, well below Dre (1.24) and McGee (1.33). His best half court scoring comes as a spot up shooter (1.15ppp), which means playing him off ball is what… Read more »
Yeah to create on your own you have to be a threat on your own. Or have an offensive system that is conducive to that. Easier said than done.
??? I’m not arguing that he should be scorer, I’m arguing that the team offense should be using his passing ability to create offense for others because he’s the best passer on the team. The post up numbers are irrelevant and an extremely low sample for Nance. Nance’s spot up shooting is a weapon that can be easily deployed in pick and pop situations… meaning they can use his passing and his spot up shooting in one easy playcall. Also, I’d venture a guess that Drummond’s played a lot more minutes with the starting guards, who are obviously superior players.… Read more »
We have other years of data on Nance, he isn’t good at scoring as an on ball guy. He is also simply not a good enough passer to run an offense through, even if he was the best passer on the team (he’s not) its irrelevant. If you put the ball in someone’s hands they have to attack and try to score regularly enough to make their passing worth while. Otherwise no one else is consistently getting open for his passes to have that kind of value. Lonzo Ball is a much better passer than Nance, but you can’t run… Read more »
So run a pick and pop every time with a guy who’s shot takes awhile to get off? That is sort of the point. Limited ways for him to be a primary creator since he has limited ways to be a threat without getting the ball off other action in a position for him to be moving towards the bucket. In order for teams to give you lanes to create you yourself have to be a threat on your own or in a position where you are an immediate threat. The immediate threat is key, meaning off other action, with… Read more »
There are some pretty obvious comps around the league as well. The Knicks offense is terrible running through Randle (and he is all around better offensively than Nance), Detroit is bad when they try to run through Griffin, Memphis ran a bunch through Kyle Andersen when Ja was out and it was ugly. Running your offense through a guy like Nance is a last ditch option, like running it through Noah when Rose blew out his knee, and it rarely really works out. Even when the Grizzlies were running their offense through Marc Gasoline and he was averaging 4.5 assists… Read more »
Nance’s career high in usg is under 16%, that is across 4 coaches and two teams. How do you increase his usage? He doesn’t generate his own shot, cannot post up regularly and we dont have a high volume guard to feed him for 3s or in the pnr.
well, you just said the two main barriers to making that happen… coaching and inexperienced guards. My point is, there’s no reason for Drummond to out-touch Nance, even if Nance isn’t a scoring threat, because he’s statistically the best player on the team at creating offense FOR OTHERS.
We give our offense the best chance at team success when we put the ball in the hands of our best passer…. i think bad coaching and bad guard play are the two biggest reasons that’s not happening.
I think the coaches should be exploring a Nance-centered offense and finding out where the point of diminishing returns is with respect to his passing and shooting.
The issue is how he creates offense for others. The bad guard play is the limiting factor. Draymond works because of Curry and Klay. They are the threats that allow him to create. He cannot create on his own. Bacon has nailed the fundamental difficulties of nance being the primary option. He isn’t just going to break people down or be a primary ballhandler. Also isn’t going to command doubles from the post. Dray at his best gets the ball on the move from another primary initiator. When we get the guards back you can use him that way or… Read more »
Perhaps this isn’t getting thru, not making it clear enough. I am saying I’ll be happy if the impact is what you believe. But I doubt it will be until the guards come back. And I certainly don’t think it will be the same as BKN. Real, real simple. PIPM, BPM, RPM are all somewhat team dependent. Different systems. Different players. Different capabilities around individuals. Different spacing. Different playmaking. Different complementarity. Doesn’t matter as much for guys that are superstars or create their own offense. But for guys that depend on team framework and to be setup, not so much.… Read more »
oh yeah, definitely agree 100%. Clearly and statistically factual, the offensive efficiency should increase greatly when Sexland and Love come back.
but WRT to TS%, offensive efficiency can be separated from easy shot creation. You can still be an efficient player offensively without having an elite playmaker. Granted they do create more, easier shots… but they aren’t a necessity to play efficient offensive basketball.
Prime example on the Cavs: Larry Nance… in fact he’s the polar opposite of Dre, prizes efficiency TOO much at the expense of needed volume.
And I’m not trying to bash Dre… in fact, what would awesome is if he scraps the post ups and dribble drives and uses his passing more and rebound ability on the offensive end…. then he becomes a possible All-NBA, MVP, type of player.
The postups and dribble drives are necessary because someone has to be a volume scorer or be designated as such with the injuries. When Sexland comes back, I agree, his offense should and will go down.
my point is that his offense usage should’ve decrease PRIOR to all the injuries, and i think the data backs up my point.
An point about Efficiency. It can be separate from impact as well. A guy could be hyper efficient on a couple FGAs a game. But how impactful they are will come down to efficiency combined with attempts or possessions and the their gravity which varies with the personnel around them. If a guy needs to be setup most of the time, than overall offensive impact comes down to what there is around them. FGA will go down if there isn’t the playmaking or spacing there was before. And if teams feel the the playmaking isn’t consistent then the threat and… Read more »
General broad statement: The Cavs are going to continue to scuffle on offense over the course of the season even if they are full health. That is fine, if they managed to be the 20th ranked offense with this D they would be in play for the 5th/6th seed in the East. The Cavs simply don’t have the right combinations of players to make their offense work at a high level. Drummond has at times been a good efficiency offensive player especially when you consider his offensive rebounds, but he needs to score more in the PnR to do that… Read more »

agree.. very sad.. million dollar contracts upon which to save oneself, and perhaps do some good along the way, are few and far between.. c’est la vie.. c’est la guerre.. rock on bro.. and stay hydrated..
Watching this Bucks vs. Nets matchup. God I already hate the Nets. Harden is just awful to watch.
No idea how they’re gonna integrate Kyrie… just hate KD’s penchant for stacking the deck
that game was awesome…. question is whether that’s the ECF preview!!
i inquired about the “gangsta” several weeks ago.. no one replied.. this is not at all surprising to me.. cavs are doing the right thing.. when you have a bad infection.. amputation is the only thing that stops the spread..at least he was #30.. live and learn.. lessons from that draft.. beware of “gangstas” and Q-tip bones..
NOMAD bro.. hope u r well dude, and staying well hydrated
in any sport, players with a “troubled past” are a big gamble. Usually it does not work. Sometimes, it does: e.g., Kareem Hunt.
THERE STILL HAS NOT BEEN AN OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE FROM CAVS YET HAS THERE ??——–ANY POSSIBILITY THEY SUSPEND HIM BUT STILL KEEP HIM —WOULD THIS BE A GOOD IDEA / THOUGHTS ??
I doubt it. Sounds like they’re done with him.
I like KPJ’s potential as a player, but so do the Cavs. You can imagine how much crap behind the scenes they’ve been tolerating if they’re willing to cut him loose now for nothing.
I don’t think there is any coming back from a shouting match with your GM in the locker room and alienating your coach. Especially not after the offseason legal issues. Dude needs some help. Cavs seemed to have tried, but seems he has burned all bridges. Unfortunate for both sides.
yeah, my guess is that he was on a last chance deal after he hid the DV incident.
still don’t want to hear about the koby getting into a shouting match with a subordinate half his age though… just let the kid pop off as 20 year olds are want to do and deal with it with more discipline… they made their bed in the first place trying to get talent on the cheap.
Only so much you can do with someone being mentally irrational and unsound. At some point you have to take control. They continue to shout at you, break stuff, make a mess, show no signs of listening to reason, then at some point being calm and reason just doesn’t work. Marginal returns. Can’t convince someone that doesn’t want to be convinced, just have to handle it.
Should clarify calm should be the goal, but sometimes you just cannot reason with people who don’t want to be rational or literally are in a mental state of being incapable of reason.
exactly, yelling back isn’t going to effectively deal with a mentally unstable person, koby’s the adult in the room literally and figuratively, act like one.
Hard to overstate my disappointment. KPJ was the bright spot during the underwhelming Sexland beginning. Great mover in heavy traffic, and sharp instincts. His temper worried me, though. Very sad.
The Cavs best chance at getting an asset back for KJP right now is finding a veteran team short on young/cheap talent with little cap space. Portland comes to mind, they could use a backup big to keep their season going, have a core who has been together for a while but don’t have a lot of young talent. Zach Collins for KJP/McGee works dollar wise, Toronto would be another team fitting those criteria.
Would have loved to have seen KPJ go on about “modern day slavery” if Paul Silas was still the coach.
JASON AGREE POSSIBLY POTENTIAL TO PACKAGE JAVALE OR DRE WITH KPJ –( ALTHOUGH I REALLY LIKE HOW BOTH ARE PLAYING / WHAT THEY BRING TO THE TABLE )—-THAT IS SOME POSITIVE NEWS OF THE 3 PRACTICING TODAY !!
https://twitter.com/SpinDavies/status/1351251744811069440?s=20
nice, a sight for sore eyes!!!
Well that is something positive.
KJP news really took the wind out of the sails for me as a fan, what he flashed as a rookie really could have meshed immediately with what the Cavs have going on right now.
Well so much for that. KPJ was always a risk. Why he dropped. Don’t regret taking a flyer. Hope he gets right. At least the rotation becomes more clear.
I feel bad for Koby and JB more than anything. To accuse two black men in a position of authority to putting him through “modern day slavery” is ridiculous.
https://twitter.com/SpinDavies/status/1351228123728248835?s=20
Jeez.
Maybe he has some type of chemical imbalance? Or maybe he’s just a selfish jerk?
Anyway, too bad. So sad. Bye, bye.
Garland, Sexton, Okoro, Love, Drummond
Delly, Windler, Cedi, LNJ, Allen
Dotson, Prince, Wade, McGee.
May make a trade for Drummond easier if we have an open spot. Or we can throw KPJ in to a McGee/Drummond deal.
To me sounds like he has serious mental issues that he probably is going to need a lot of help with. Whether chemical imbalance just very troubled young guy because of his past, hope he gets some help.
IS HE THE CAVS ” JOSH GORDON ” —– GUESS —AS I HATE TO SEE IT —-BETTER TO CUT TIES EARLY THAN DISRUPT THE CULTURE CAVS ARE TRYING TO ESTABLISH —–IF HE REGROUPS / GET HIS SH-T TOGETHER WITH ANOTHER TEAM THEN MORE POWER TO HIM / AND THE TEAM THAT GIVES HIM A CHANCE ——WHICH TEAMS DO YOU THINK MY GAMBLE ON HIM IF HE IS PUT ON WAIVERS

we’re not getting anything for a trade for him… his value couldn’t be lower.
told y’all not to count on KPJ!!! called that from the start… had a suspicion he wouldn’t take kindly to JB’s reset.
Not good.

Please someone tell me the KPJ cut is fake news?
Sexton & Garland both practiced Saturday in a light session. JB says they are close.
https://cavaliersnation.com/2021/01/16/cavs-offer-major-update-darius-garland-collin-sexton-return/
After the trade for Allen & Prince, the Cavs are totally neutral on 1st round picks. None coming in or out.
2nd’s are a different matter:
2021: OUT: CLE
2022: OUT: CLE; IN: WASH, HOU, SA
2023: SWAP: GSW (our option)
2024: OUT: CLE
2025: IN: MIL
2026: IN: LAL
2027: IN: UTAH
I bet we look to add another 2nd if McGee gets dealt. Or a serviceable backup PG.
SOUNDS GOOD THAT KPJ IS PRACTICING WITH THE TEAM
FOR 1 DAY—CTB= CLEVELAND THE BROWNS—–GO BROWNS !!!
Bummer – but a helluva season.
Absolutely. To be in the game with 2 minutes to go exceeded all my expectations tonight. Just need to upgrade the pass defense and we have a chance to get back here next year.
Regarding injuries/absences.
Allen & Prince should be good to go now that the trade has gone through.
Hopefully Sexton & Garland return next week. Sexton has been a late scratch the last two games. He should be closest. We play next on 1/20. Garland got hurt 1/2. Almost 3 weeks.
I read the average number of games missed with Windler’s injury was 15. Counting the Wiz games, he’ll be sitting on 14 come 1/20.
KPJ is practicing and with the team.
Love. Said re-evaluation in 3-4 weeks. That was 19 days ago.
Delly. Crickets. Concussion around a month ago.
I agree that I hope the Cavs give it some time before they blow up the team. They have the interesting mix of a weird and deep (if healthy) team and a coach in JB that isn’t afraid to “get weird”. We could be seeing the beginning of a Miami/Brooklyn esque team that finds a way to be greater than the sum of its parts…or a team that falls apart as other teams find a way to exploit their weaknesses. Either way, it’s a nice feeling to be excited to see that the positive side is actually possible, not just… Read more »
We are .500 when Drummond plays (10-10).
I think JB is 11-13. Not bad given the injuries.
Schedule gets a LOT tougher the next month or so. If we are sniffing .500 come the end of Feb, we are legit.
Agreed
I’d like to see what this team can do before we rip it up. We have 10 weeks or so before the trade deadline. Let’s see what we can do.
We did not get a chance to last year.
Garland, Sexton, Okoro, Love, Drummond
Delly, KPJ, Cedi, LNJ, Allen
Dotson, Windler, Prince, Wade, McGee.
PIPM data as of now, including last night’s game: 3 Top 100 players, in order: Nance (#58), Sexton (#73), Drummond (#99). Just outside of the top 100: Garland (#118) Jarrett Allen is ranked #36. Biggest problem so far is that Osman, Okoro, and Dotson are not playing winning basketball. Okoro’s offense is not NBA-ready right now and his defense isn’t making up for his offense. Cedi’s just been bad, but slightly less bad on offense than Okoro. Another note, McGee’s really bad on offense, and not making up for it on the defensive end. Dotson’s offensive deficiencies are showing up… Read more »
Okoro is raw on offense. We knew that coming in. Needs to work on his j in the off-season. We struggle with inconsistency. Cedi is just too up and down. Until Sexton comes back about the only guy other teams probably consider a threat on their own is Dre, correct or incorrect. Nance is very good in a team offensive concept, but I’ve yet to see him just consistently go and create his own shot. Don’t think he is to the point where you can just dump the ball down to him in the post and expect him to draw… Read more »
VERY GOOD POINTS TO CONSIDER VINTAGE —–AGREE BEING ON A COMPETITIVE TEAM VS A ‘TANKING ‘ TEAM IS SO MUCH MORE POSITIVE ATMOSHPERE / HELPS DEVELOP A WINNING ATTITUDE AND AGREE JUST LISTENING TO DRE DURING INTERVIEWS COMES ACROSS VERY ARTICULATE / UPBEAT / POSITIVE
SO THE QUESTION IS –IF A TEAM PRESENTED A REAL GOOD TRADE TO KOBY FOR DRE –DO YOU PULL THE PLUG RIGHT NOW —DRE’S VALUE WILL NEVER BE ANY HIGHER THAN IT IS RIGHT NOW —–BELIEVE THE LAST 5 GAMES HE IS AVG ALMOST A 20 /20
Think he has to keep up the offensive efficiency before he gets to his zenith.
Just don’t know what constitutes a good return on a trade for Drummond. A 1st rd pick? No teams in position for the lottery are going to give that up for 3/4 season of Drummond. Is a mid-to-late 1st round pick worth it? What effect does going back to tanking having on Sexton/Garland/Okoro’s development? I’m leaning towards riding out the rest of the season and seeing what a team of healthy Sexton/Garland + Okoro, Nance, Drummond can do. Not even counting on Love at this point. I think staying competitive helps everyone and by all accounts Drummond is a great… Read more »
First it is hard to see the offer, in a normal year you might get one but in a season with a much higher chance of a total shut down at some point who is offering real assets for a guy whose contract expires at the end of the season? Loving Drummond’s movement, no pretending he is PG but still using his feet.
The enigma of Cedi continues…..
That is the best Drummond will ever be. Simmo, what do you consider the best Aussie movie? I think “Walkabout” is a given, but what do you think about “The Proposition”, or “Flirting”?
Welp, it is a broad church. I enjoyed the ones you mentioned but have never had the urge to watch again, which is a good litmus test I think. I’ll give you my personal faves & then what I consider the best of the “big” Aussie flix.
Personal:
Noise (2007)
Secret Men’s Business (1999)
The Sum of Us (1994)
Samson and Delilah (2009)
Big:
Rabbit-Proof Fence (2002)
Lantana (2001)
Wolf Creek (2005)
Animal Kingdom (2010)
I love Flirting. It is the sequel to The Year my Voice Broke, which is equally exceptional. I need to watch more Duigar films.
EG loves Romper Stomper
Mad Max series
Priscilla Queen of the Desert
Rabbit proof fence only one I’ve seen of those.
I have never seen any of your ‘personal’, thank you. Like Nate, I love ‘Flirting’, forgot about that one, and of recent movies, “Rover” is one of my personal favorites. (and of course “Fury Road”, but that is such a blockbuster type of movie I barely think of it as Australian)
Thanks again! I’m going to look for your personal favorites.
Gallipoli?
Not an expert on Aussie cinema, but that one sticks out.
Yes, could easily have included it. A classic.
“The Proposition” is awesome (some very violent parts). Written by Nick Cave !!, who started as the music person, and took over the movie.
I liked “Mystery Road”: kind of a classic western “halfbreed lawman — caught in the middle” motif, transposed to Australia, with a lot of “High Noon” in it. Mostly realistic, as in “this could have happened”

What enigma of Cedi? He is a 3+d player with the skills to be a 3rd/4th/5th ball handler on a team that is asking him to be a 1b/1c due to injuries.
I’m referring to his shooting.
It’s been a while since I’ve been lurking – Just wanted to say hi to everyone and hope you’re all surviving.
Same to you, Joey. Hope you’re being smart, and enjoying the games when able.
Yes to both. You too.
Hi JoeyB – same to you.
Hey Joey, good to see your name pop up, hope all is well on your end. Surviving here, taking it day by day!
Great side point to this game??? Obi Toppin invisible while the Ice shines
Topin may eventually be a good NBA player, but so glad the Cavs didn’t take him…
Did he go #4?
#8
On a Knicks site they said he had been out injured and this was his first game back.
Drummond is like the boynwith the curl in the middle of his forehead. When he’s good, he’s very very good, but when he’s bad he’s horrible.
We’ve got a few of those guys on this team.
It’s really his inefficient offense… he’s a dark horse DPOY on that side of the ball.
If there was a way to limit his shooting to the restricted area and make sure he uses his passing skills in other areas of the floor, he’s obviously a completely different player.
It’s when he wants to run a fastbreak or dribble drive to put up a garbage shot, and he simply does it way too often.
If he converted around the rim with better efficiency, he’d probably be an MVP candidate…but he doesn’t…
I have to Say, when Drumm plays like this I’m tempted to give the man the bag and see how far they can get. Allen is nice but Drummond has all star talent.
it’s one game and it’s the knicks chill Nate LMFAOOOO
even with this game, he’s probably not above 50% TS LMFAOOOOO
49.8 TS % including tonight LMFAO
Kind of agree? It’s just 7 years of this tantalizing talent in Det kind of a lot of history to the contrary, but when he is on his game my god is he a STUD
If we cannot get good value for him, I’d be willing to let him play out the season and then make a decision. I’d rather have cap space + Allen, or no space + Drummond & Allen, rather than Allen + bad contracts + a late first. I think Dre is less likely to try to do too much when there are more made/proven scorers around him (Love & Sexton). Or if the team is winning. I think we are on the verge of both. And if he goes loco momentarily or takes a night off, put Allen in. I… Read more »
Well we aren’t getting any worth while FAs without way overpaying.
Drummond will probably get a max from someone. No true max guys are willingly coming here. Overpaying role players in a market like cleveland is a really dumb idea. Guys like Beal would probably want out if traded for.
Any role players worth a damn you will have to pay like twice market value to come. So comes down to how much DG is willing to spend. You could retain both but you are probably going to have to pay sexton a fair amount when he is rfa.
Cap space is not just about getting a FA to come here. Gotta retain some of our guys. A Sexton extension is gonna be pricey. Ditto Allen.
Dre as the #3-#4 guy, who reduces bonehead plays by 50%, at, say, $15-$20 mil? I could be down with that.
I mean yeah. 15 to 20 is reasonable. Question is can you get him for that? As for Sexton, Allen, and Dre…like I said depends on what DG is willing to spend and when or whether he is willing to go into tax. Still paying love. Allen coming up this year. Sexton next I believe. Things could get expensive quickly.
Yes, this is a godsend..

Allen & Prince for sure. Sexton & Garland possible. They said mid-January for Windler. We are there. KPJ on the bench is a good sign. Getting closer.
Coming up on 3 weeks since the Love injury as well. They said he’d be re-evaluated in 3-4 weeks, so maybe a few more weeks until he is back as well.
Anyone have a theoretical rotation if we actually had our entire roster healthy? Might make for an interesting article/discussion!
Sexton/ Garland/ KPJ/ Love/ Drummond. Or Okoro in place of KPJK. This assumes a lot.
Then 2nd unit: KPJ (assume Okoro starts), Windler, Osman, nance, Allen ??? Leaves out prince and Dotson
Gonna see Dotson at backup pg. Think it’s gonna be a long time till kpj gets Minutes. Windler probably gonna get some gleague time
Backup PG will be interesting. If Delly is out, Dotson has to continue to play. Though JB could stagger Sexland. Collin just not a PG in my view. Could run through Cedi/Love/LNJ/Dre.
Assuming everyone available, which is a reach, I’d expect Garland to play a lot with second unit…and some of this is pie in the sky, no idea of the status of KPJ, for instance…
Dot will move into exum role for Foreseeable Future.
I do not think we will go full hockey 2nd unit. I think it will be various starter/reserve combos.
Also think that with COVID, a compressed schedule, and the inevitable injuries, we may not be in a hurry to trade away rotation level guys.
Starters are easy. Garland, Sexton, Okoro, Love, Drummond.
I think we go 12 deep. Delly (only real PG behind Garland), KPJ, Cedi, Prince, Windler, Nance, Allen.
If I had to rank the bench: Nance #6, Allen #7, Cedi #8, KPJ #9, McGee #10, Delly #11, Windler #12, Prince #13, Dotson #14, Wade #15. Javale plays less as the #3 C.
Cedi +24 plus/minus in a 3 point game…. he was so good tonight.
Andre +12 with 33/23 with 4 stocks…. 10-18 (!!!) from the field and 19(!!!!) FTAs, by far his most efficient offensive game of the year.
Nance +9, 14 points on hyper-efficient shooting, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 stocks.
Okoro +5, 13 points good efficiency, 4 assists, 4 stocks.
When you have Drummond playing like Shaq and Cedi playing like Manu, you’re likely to win…
yup, basically!!!! LMFAOOOO
thank god for the knicks!!! LMFAOOOOOO
And Nance playing like… Nance

This was hey I’m still here game
Most probably their starting center of the future, but I do understand you are trolling…
That is a wrap! Another win of the gritty not pretty variety.
Monster game from Drummond. Cedi very good. Larry & Okoro good. Dotson with some nice stuff late.
Ice clutch
Good win. Cedi had one of his very good games. Dre was a beast.
If Cedi ever puts it together every night, he’d one of the best value contracts in the NBA…..’if’…
Yep.
Nice win!!! Our next 4 real tough (brk, brk, bos, lal)
I’d be surprised if they do better than 0-4, but tonight was a tremendous game…
WOW WHAT A GAME CEDI AND DRUMMOND!!!!
Honorable mentions, Nance and Okoro!!!!
Incredible effort…fun game…
OKORO SMOOTH FT!!!
What a steal by dre! Damn
Drummond with another steal.
WHAT A DEFENSIVE PLAY BY DRUMMOND GREAT ANTICIPATION!!!!!!!

Good.
Lot of stupid & sloppy play by both teams. But Dre gets one of two.
Cedi redemption…
