Podcast Episode 230: The Winter Soldiers
2021-01-14Any time you podcast with Tom Pestak, It’s like you’re waking up Bucky Barnes from the cryo chamber as you fill him in on everything that’s happened in the NBA since the last time he was on a podcast. Wednesday night was no different, Elijah Kim and Nate Smith filled him in on today’s blockbuster trades, out of which the Cavs acquired Jarrett Allen and Taurean Prince. (Make sure to check out Adam Cathcart’s analysis for CtB). The podcast was certainly a lot of fun as we went long on the implications of this trade, where the Cavs stand, and whether the Cavs will make any more moves.
After that we went over the last two clunkers for the Cavs, discussed the veracity of the injury report, pondered the enigma of Kyrie Irving, and lamented the Cavs’ absolute dearth of wings. After the NBA talk died down, we got into the Browns big win over Pittsburgh, Nate’s embarrassing video conference faux pas, Tom’s MRI Journey to Mordor, and Eli’s quest to find the Wizard of Za. Now if we can just get Tom back in the freezer and survive the coming polar vortex.

I suspect the cavs are being extra cautious with some of these guys. Sexton in all likelihood. Maybe Garland. I suspect Love, Windler obviously, Delly, and KpJ are nowhere near ready.
I do hope that they are being extra cautious with Sexton/Garland for health reasons and not to tank.
CAVS GAMES VS THE WIZ SUNDAY / MONDAY POSTPONED / COVID —OR IS THE REAL REASON FOR SAFETY PRECAUTIONS DUE TO POTENTIAL INAUGURATION VIOLENCE—EITHER WAY THIS MAY WORK IN THE CAVS FAVOR —-GET BODIES HEALTHY—ALLOW NEW PLAYERS TO GET ACCLIMATED
no there’s an outbreak and it’s serious… possible super-spreader event.
Who are “The Dribble Brothers”?
I didn’t see the bit, but Barkley apparently said last night that Durant went from the ‘Splash Brothers’ to the ‘Dribble Brothers’, meaning Kyrie and Harden.
Hilarious as always.
Tom, I’ve given up on Youtube highlights. The only defensive plays, free throws or anything else of import to the gMe that will be seen are in the final 30 seconds if the game is close. Rest is buckets. It feels automated up until that point.
The good thing is this is probably a good year to tank. The downside is I like watching decent basketball, and hard to do that with no guards. Prince and Allen are expected to play vs Knicks, so there’s that.
I don’t think we are tanking. At all. Just injuries.
Tanking in effect. Not by intent.
Tanking IS intentional by definition. But if you mean stink, then, yeah, it should be a good draft.
But once Sexland, Windler, & Love get back, we’ll be fun to watch. We were fun before the injuries hit.
DAN K —-YEP THESE INJURIES ARE GOING TO DRIVE ME TO ………….” MORE BEER PLEASE ” —-IT IS GETTING MUCKING ANNOYING

man…. these injuries are seriously getting annoying
The stunning thing is this is an improvement. Drummond probable. Plus Allen & Prince.
TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU JASON—–REALLY LIKE WHAT JAVALE HAS GIVEN US SO FAR –BUT I AM SURE SO DO ALOT OF OTHER GM’S –( ESPECIALLY CONTENDING TEAMS ) HE APPEWARS TO BE THE LIKELY CANDIDATE –HAVE FAITH KOBY WILL GET A GOOD RETURN FOR HIM—-
Right now:
Dotson, Okoro, Prince, LNJ, Allen
Cedi, Wade, Stevens (2w), McGee.
So, if everyone is available….
Garland, Sexton, Okoro, Love, Drummond
Delly, KPJ, Cedi, LNJ, Allen
Dotson, Prince, Windler, Wade, McGee.
Cedi & KPJ could easily be 3rd team with Prince/Windler 2nd. Need another PG.
I think McGee is the easiest big to trade. With KPJ’s situation, I would hold off trading Cedi or Dotson or any guard/wing.
