Live Thread: Cavs @ Jazz
2022-01-12Tonight, the Cavs travel to the eastern Great Basin to take on one of the giants of the Western Conference, the Utah Jazz. The Jazz come into the game on a three game losing streak and will be looking at the Cavs to try and notch a solid win. Utah will be without the services of nearly all of their frontcourt rotation, including Rudy Gobert. The absences will make for quite the interesting battle on the court, with the Jazz having to play uber-small ball against the Cavs’ Tower City.
For the Cavs, the game plan is simple. On offense, use the size advantage to get easy looks at the rim. On defense, don’t allow dribble penetration that leads to open kickout threes. In the wider context, the Cavs should have revenge on their mind after losing to the Utah by the narrowest of margins, 109-108. This is a fantastic opportunity to build momentum heading into the second half of the year by taking down a surefire playoff team in their own house.
Tip off is scheduled for 9:00PM ET and will be broadcasted on Bally Sports Ohio/Great Lakes… GO CAVS!
recap up! sorry for the delay!
IF ANYONE IS EXPERIENCING “TACKO WITHDRAWAL ” SYMPTOMS—–HELP IS ON THE WAY—-THE CHARGE HAVE SIGNED TACKO—HE IS WORTH THE $ 5.00 ADMISSION !!!!
THANK GOD —BECAUSE THERE WERE ALWAYS RUMORS ABOUT CAVS GOING AFTER REDDISH—-WHEW !!!!…………” MORE BEER PLEASE “
So…yes the Jazz were way outmanned, but stevens has been our best player the last 3 or 4 games even against full sqads. We might not need to trade anyone to find the person who can create their own shot and play with size at the 2 in the starting lineup. He might have been on the bench all along.

Happy he won’t be a Cav.
Same. Knicks also sent Kevin ‘Hoops Poison’ Knox to Atlanta in the deal.
He showed some flashes, but I think we’d be better iff just picking someone with our pick.
ATL cannot pay everyone, so this is smart for them. I’d keep Hunter over Reddish too.
Or just playing Okoro and Stevens…
CAVS DID WHAT THEY NEEDED TO DO—-WIN AGAINST AN UNDERMANNED TEAM—-WHICH IN THE PAST WE STRUGGLED TO DO——NOBODY FELT SORRY FOR THE CAVS EARLY IN THE SEASON WHEN WE WERE STRUGGLING TO PUT PLAYERS ON THE FLOOR —-AND WE STILL COMPETED ——-QUESTION WHEN ICE GETS HEALTHY WOULD HE BE BETTER STARTING OR COMING OFF THE BENCH—LEAVE STEVENS IN THERE WITH THE STARTERS
good question NOMAD, I’ve been an advocate of starting Stevens over Okoro for awhile, but not sure if that’s the right move anymore with Okoro’s growth this year.
Some fun posts under The Trade Express pod talked about culture and fit. It surprised me that, given Okoro’s recent improvement, Stevens still is shooting better from three (33.3% to 32.1%). I have followed Stevens through college, and he has been limited from there, often opting for contested jumpers. That might explain why Okoro has the better 2-point FG % (54.2% to 52.2%). As these numbers are so close, I guess the best question is, which player fits better with the starters and with the backups? Or is it a question of who is the opponent’s starting two-guard?
I think the difference is that Stevens is longer and just has a maturity to his game that the 20 year old Okoro doesn’t have yet.
But Okoro probably has slightly better handles, and more upside due to youth. It’s a tough call because their production is extremely similar.
Cavs won big against a team with no bigs – happy they took advantage even when it got close at half. Jazz equivalent would be if Cavs didnt have Allen/Mobley/Love – think that would be disaster for Cavs haha….another big win for team regardless..take em while they’re hot…so far winning on this west coast trip, which historically this team struggles to do. GO CAVS!
AGREE WITH THE WADE MIN’S AND ALSO WIND(K)LER——NEED TO FIND 5-7 MIN’S // GAME FOR THEM—–WIND(K)LER IS HITTING ABOUT 50 % FROM 3’S IN HIS LAST 4-5 GAMES —THEY NEED THAT GAME EXPERIENCE TO CONTINUE THEIR GROWTH
