Live Thread: Spurs @ Cavs
2022-02-09Good evening CtB!
Tonight Gregg Popovich, Dejounte Murray, and the San Antonio Spurs grace the shores of Lake Erie for their season series finale against the Cavs. The Spurs are a team that plays far better than their record, with a neutral point differential in spite of a less than .500 record. They are also only a couple of of games out of the Western Conference play-in. The Cavs should expect a stern test from their Western Conference foe.
For the Cavs, the excitement is off the charts. Tonight will be presumably the debut of newly acquired “hometown kid” Caris LeVert. Also, it appears that All Star point guard Darius Garland will be returning from his multi-game absence with a balky back. There will be two goals for the Cavs this evening. The first one is obviously the win to stay in the hunt for the top seed. The second goal will be recapturing some of the offensive magic lost from the devastating Ricky Rubio knee injury. Don’t be surprised if LeVert makes a statement tonight with his game.
As for the game itself, Mr. Cavalier Austin Carr has the tale of the tape on the San Antonio Spurs:
Spurs-lead NBA in asts-27.9
Spurs-4th in fewest TO’s-12.7
Spurs-8th scoring offense-111pts
Spurs-24th-scoring defense-111pts
Spurs-9th-FG%-46%
Spurs-14th-(3)%-35%— Austin Carr (@MrCavalier34) February 9, 2022
These aren’t the Spurs of glory days past. The Spurs win these days with potent offense masking sub par defense. The game will be a classic contrast of styles between the Spurs firepower vs. the Cavs’ elite defense. Conversely, look for the Cavs to jump start their offense against the leaky Spurs’ defense.
Tip off is scheduled for 7:00PM ET and will be broadcasted live on Bally Sports Ohio/Great Lakes, Go CAVS!!!!

this was one of those games where the Cavs played sloppy yet still won rather comfortably..if things were slightly better this may have been another 20+ point win…again not complaining, just showing this team is handling things much better this year. solid debut for Levert may take a few games to get settled in. Seems like Rondo is an odd fit and should probably be used sparingly. i think the guard situation may need some updates so i anticipate Koby doing a minor move there prior to deadline. GO CAVS!
Sounds like the Knicks laughed at the Lakers Westbrook trade offer. Now rumor is that Westbrook stays put unless LeBron decides that…. wait for it….. JOHN WALL (fellow Klutch client) would be a better option.
Got a good laugh out of that one.
What’s Jon Walls status? Is he injured? Does he ever play for the Rockets?
I think he is not injured, but they have agreed that he will sit it out until traded.
Garland had 27-6-5 tonight…had 6 turnovers so that sucked…but that was in 30 mins. He hasn’t played less than 34 in forever. Looking forward to the next 3 games before the break for him to get comfortable in the flow of the offense and for Levert to find a couple partners to run plays with. I predict Levert and Love and Cedi find a meaningful chemistry during the last game before the break and we win by 20+ against the hawks

yeah, the other DG is a surprisingly likable guy.
Lakers lost at Portland. b2b for both teams. Russ did not play, but Bron & AD did. No Dame, CJ, Powell, Covington, Nance, Little, etc for Portland.
My NBA schaudenfruede is at an all-time high. The Lakers are a train wreck and the Nets have lost 9 in a row.
That Laker team blows. It’s not even fun to watch them lose. What’s sad is they will almost certainly make the play-in, even though they don’t deserve it.
this is the first year i think Lebron will find a way to get injured for an extended period of time. They’re so bad even if he doesn’t they could get caught by the kings and Pelicans. He could will them to the play in if he wanted but why on earth would he want to? They all look so miserable.

opposing ppg down to 101.9.. #1 in nba
Some of that is pace. I think Defensive Rating is still an excellent 3rd.
