Live Thread: Cavs @ Pelicans
2023-02-10Good evening CtB!
The Cavs have traversed south to the Mississippi River Delta to take on the New Orleans Pelicans in a primetime, national televised affair. The Cavs are in the midst of their first winning streak in a month and are making their postseason push to possibly nab that third seed in the Eastern Conference. The Pelicans have been in free fall down the Western Conference standings since the injury to Zion Williamson. They desperately need any win they can get to stay within shooting distance of the top 6 seeds in the West.
Taking a look at the Pels’ numbers on the season, what stands out is that they’re a better defensive team (7th in defensive rating) than offensive (12th in offensive rating) team. On offense, they like to move the ball and crash the glass, so limiting second chance opportunities should be a point of emphasis. They can be prone to turnovers so the Cavs would do well to disrupt passing lanes and steal some easy buckets against this tough defense.
No Ricky tonight. No Zion, Dyson Daniels, and Josh Richardson is still en route to the Pels. Bet accordingly.
#Cavs will roll with their same starting lineup until there is a reason to change it.
Darius Garland. Donovan Mitchell. Isaac Okoro. Evan Mobley. Jarrett Allen.
Ricky Rubio is OUT because of injury maintenance. The person taking his minutes tonight will depend on game flow

Gotta love the love
Super game last night, total domination by Evan and Jarrett.
I’m in town for the game tonight. Hope the boys can summon up some energy on short notice. GO RICKY!!!
Nice! Have fun. Go Cavs!
I think OKC is a playoff team. Not play-in, play-off.
On Dallas, J. Green & Hardy have both been really good the last couple games. As have Hardaway & Bullock. If the two young guys blossom, lookout. Even if Kyrie walks.
The 76ers (at Nets), Miami (at Magic), and Knicks (Utah) are also on b2bs tonight. Again, if we win, we gain on someone no matter the outcome in Brooklyn, and hopefully we can also get more distance on Miami & NY. Up 5.5 games on the 7th place Knicks to avoid the play-in. 5 8n the loss column. Up 3 in the L column on 6th placed Miami, 4 games overall. 1.5 games up on the new look Nets, tied in the L column. 1 game back of Philly, but 3 in the L column. We have played more games… Read more »
I did see something interesting last night, which was Mobley on Ingram and Okoro on McCollum. With the starting group, Mobes was on Ingram. And did a good job. Wade mostly had him later.
Putting Mobley on a tall, lanky, midrange wing assassin is something I have not seen JB do a lot of. I hope we see more. DeRozan tonight is in that category. Middleton. Durant. Tatum may be too quick. Giannis may be too strong. At least it is a wrinkle. I like best on best. If not from jump, the as a cooler later.
ESPN was blaming McCollum’s off night on his thumb. At least JJ was. His last 3:
23 pts on 8-16 vs Lakers. 7 dimes. 131-126 W.
24 pts in 9-11 vs Kings. 136-104 W.
21/6/7 on 8-23 vs Hawks. 116-107 W.
Last night? 12/2/5 on 4-14. Ice cooled him off.
Completely agree!!! Ice was in his space allll night
I do believe that is the plan moving forward if we can “hide” DG and DM on some other guys. Like against Boston gotta think Ice starts on Brown and Mobley on Tatum, then JA on Williams and DG/DM on Smart and whoever is left (unless they start two bigs)
IF YOU GO BACK A FEW WEEKS —BELIEVE K PERKINS ” GOT ” ON MOBES —-EVER SINCE THEN MOBES HAS BEEN ” ON A ROLL ” REALLY PICKED HIS GAME UP —-THANK YOU KPERKINS FOR ” LIGHTING A FIRE” ON YOUNG MOBES !!
He eas taking credit for sure. Though he thought Mobley was at “12 and 7” when it has been around 14-15/8-9 all year.
Last 10 games is really ticking up. Since Love has been out, Mobley has been getting a lot of those shots that went to Kev. Wade is a low usage guy, Kev was not. Thus some extra shots.
DAMN —WAS HOPING TO CATCH REPLAY ON BALLY SPORTS—THEY HAD HOCKEY—-DIDN’T KNOW ESPN WAS // HAD THE REPLAY// CAUGHT THE LAST 8 SECONDS OF THE GAME —OH WELLL—-GREAT WIN BY THE CAVS WHO HAVE HAD TROUBLE WINNNING IN NO’S —-LET’S KEEP THE STREAK GOING TONIGHT —SO GLAD LEVERT DID NOT GET TRADED// WAS CLOSE TO A TRIPLE // DOUBLE LAST NIGHT —GIVE KOBY CREDIT FOR NOT FORCING A STUPID TRADE/// NOW WE HAVE TO RESIGN HIM THIS OFF SEASON —KEEP THE MAIN CORE INTACT

and a lot of these still frustrate me..
Lost @ Clippers 117-119 Nov 7 (2 pts)
Lost @ Kings 120-127 – Nov 9 (7 pts)
Lost @ GSW 101-106 – Nov 11 (5 pts)
Lost @ SAS 111-112 – Dec 12 (1 pt)
Lost @ Denver 121-108 – Jan 6(13 pts)
Lost @ Utah 114-116 – Jan 10 (2 pts)
Lost @ Wolves 110-102 – Jan 14 (8 pts)
Lost @ Memphis 115-114 – Jan 18 (1 pt)
Lost @ OKC 112-100 – Jan 27 (12 pts)
The Clippers game was a total collapse when they were in foul mode. The Jazz game eith the 7 point possession was also in the collapse category. We win those, and we are 8-7.
We went dry for like the last 5 minutes vs the Kings. We did not play hard enough vs SA. GSW & Memphis we just lost nailbiters. Denver, Wolves, and OKC we legit got beat.
I cannot remember the b2b/who was missing. Still, a smidge away from going 12-3.
the GSW game was a total steal by the refs. Recall how it ended: GSW up 1 with the ball and about 30 sec to go. Curry has the ball and Ice is covering him like a blanket. Then Klay runs across the court and tackles Ice, with a shoulder to the head. Knocked him about 10 feet, looked like it might be a concussion. Should have been a Flag 2, which would be an ejection and give the Cavs two shots and the ball. So now, Ice and Klay are sprawled on the floor, 5 or 10 feet from… Read more »
Great that we only have these 3 West Coast teams – San Antonio, Denver and Houston at home for the rest of the season… (won’t miss these late West Coast games)
All other games are against the East so each win and loss counts double in the standings.
Cavs before the AS break:
v Bulls
v Spurs
@ 76ers
Let’s at least win 2 of 3.
I agree.. both at home is key, need to beat our division rival (lost last 2) also can’t have a let down against the Spurs who are currently on a 11 game losing streak… and winning against 76ers on the road would be huge heading into the break and for our record and any tie breakers between us.
Also wining the game against Nuggets at home would be huge (Feb 23) to avenge the loss on the road against #1 team in the West and winning against the @Hawks (Feb 24) will give us the tie breaker since it’s a 3 game series and we won the 1st at home and the last two games are in Atlanta.
We also added to our league leading double digit wins .. now 26-8 , next is Boston at 22-8.
Bulls tomorrow at home. Will Eli shine the gold jacket?
Isaac so stupid with this post game interview lol
What happened?
Just staying into the camera and it ended up being Caris, JA, Isaac and Mobley and the were just answering with one word or limited word answers.. but it was enjoyable to see the camaraderie.

The honeymoon of Kyrie and the Mavs is active.
He’ll feel disrespected somehow in a couple weeks when Luka takes the ball from him and no one backs him up and it will all start to go down hill.
3 straight road wins. Off to bed!
Nice win, good to share with y’all. Ciao Ctbers.
have a great day Simmo!
Impressive -10 in 2 mins lol
RoLo didn’t have the magic touch tonight.
RoLo got hacked.
This is why JB plays the rotation late into the game. Geez guys.
First win here since 2010. Where’s the parade in Cleveland tonight?
Okay I think we are safe now.
8-0 since the bench came in.. come on now man… score or atleast defend.
Come on bench.. gotta keep our #1 net rating.
Run the clock Llama!
Or not.
Top 3 in the East looks like they’ll win tonight (Bucks have a 9 point lead in the 4th) against Clippers. Pity we couldn’t gain some ground tonight.
3 minutes seems to be when JB feels safe with a 20 point lead.
More like 30 seconds
Lmao facts… it’s like JB only empty the bench when the other team does it.
Soft part of the schedule, but good on Cavs dominating instead of playing down.
men lie. women lie. buckets dnt.
Goodnight Nawlins.
Rolo time
70-50 advantage in the paint for the Cavs … almost 60% of our points.
JJ Reddick comparing DG to CP3
And RJ Barrett…..
Does it make sense to switch over to espn to hear those commentators or stick to Bally ?
Up to you.
Mobley got hacked in front of the refs and no call
I thought so too.
Thirded.
Cavs shooting 61% from the field and out rebounding the Pelicans 40-26.
Ball don’t lie.
