Live Thread: Cavs vs Pistons
2016-04-20
The Pistons are back in town tonight, and fresh off a $25,000 fine for criticizing the officials before halftime of Game 1, Stan Van Gundy has them ready to play. The focus this game? Limiting the Cavs’ second chance points and the 12 offensive rebounds Cleveland had in game one. For Cleveland, the keys will be thus.
- Continue to limit Andre Drummond’s impact offensively and defensively. This means inside/out bigs who can stretch the floor against him (Love and Frye), and tough defense to deny him lobs and limit his pick and roll opportunities. (Keep going under the screens with Reggie Jackson!)
- Keep attacking in transition and early post-ups and then swinging the ball to the shooters out of double teams and the secondary break.
- Spread the scoring. With the big game for the big three, Sunday, J.R. should get some open looks from three.
- Keep defending. This means overplaying the strong hand of Reggie Jackson and the Pistons’ guards, as well as limiting penetration. Try to ice the pick and roll!
- Set up LeBron as the roll man.
- Limit turnovers! Cavs did a fantastic job of this in game one.
- Close out on shooters! This was probably the worst part of Cleveland’s defense game one.
- Bring the energy off the bench. The Detroit bench outscored the Cavs’ 21-14, Sunday, and outrebounded them 10-7. Hopefully Delly and Shump can get their jumpers going. Hopefully Channing Frye plays.
- Kevin Love, Kyrie Irving, and LeBron James continuing to run brutally efficient offense.
Ok… Since Evil Genius is convinced I don’t compliment Lue.. LoL Here goes. I only had one complaint that he didn’t burn with the Delly line-up long enough in 2nd quarter. Not the case 2nd half. He made the right decision to keep him in there numerous times. The most smartest was when Lebron came out to have Delly in there paired with Kyrie. That has always worked before in the past. He gave Mosgov a shot at Drummond. Yes he was a wall to him but My Lord…. Any positives he had were cancelled out by the self sabotaging… Read more »
Lol… I take it all back, TV…
Nah I liked the comment. I do admit I get obsessive on the TT/Mosgov on Drummond thing. I would have never guessed Cavs could win w/o either one.

Uh oh, no Love in the picture…
All right peeps. I’m out. So tired. See you all tomorrow in the a Ana. Anna am.
Gundy is such a sore loser. Too bad he can’t coach like Lue.
I think the clips can beat the Warriors.
It’d be a dream to see the Clips in the finals. Cavs would win every game by 30.
“That’s really smart coaching to put LeBron on the floor. If you want to call that an adjustment.” – SVG

That was really hilarious the way he said it. Lue was cracking up when he heard that. It’s true though.. Lebron is one heck of an adjustment to bring in your game. Glad WE have him!
Cavs would tear the Clippers apart so badly.
The Hedgehog is speaking now…

Is Tim Misny related to Danny Ferry?
they really look a lot alike
Lue was great
Cols – I think I missed something. What does UPG stand for? It’s Love, right?
Undefeated playoff genius.
Amazing.
There’s some weird large heads in this picture…

There aren’t that many Kaun fans in North America. Unless his family is here.
Good win. I am still impressed by DET though. Solid team. I went back and looked, and they were 17-9 in last 26 before playoffs. G3 is going to be a battle.
One of the best 8th seeds I’ve seen in recent years.
Podcast Potent Perception Question: When was the last time the 10 seed in the East was .500 or better? 1997! Detroit is the best 8 seed in the east in forever
Pretty amazing actually!
Yeah. Plus they were peaking at end of the season. They are an upper-40’s win team with their current roster.
Is there a point guard that Lebron has ever been as comfortable playing with as he is with Delly?
I feel like that was always an issue with ‘Bron where he just wasn’t comfortable with his point guard and felt the need to bring the ball up himself (in both CLE 1.0 and Miami). He trusts Delly more than any point guard he has ever had.
What about Jeff McInnis? HAHAHA
No doubt LBJ trusts Delly with the ball in his hands. And that trust is certainly well deserved.
Mo Williams, Mario Chalmers, Kyrie Irving. I remember back in the day Lebron wanting Jason Kidd “It would be that easy” or something like that, he said.
I think Delly is the point guard he never played with before.

Mamba needs more run… that kid’s got skillz…
LeBron the mvp tonight. Followed by Irving. Smith. UPG and Delly.

Can I solve the puzzle? Detroit socks.
The correct answer is Detroit Sacks…
Good point James, Lue coached a solid game. Props to Coach Lue, very encouraging.
That. Was. Awesome.
Destruction…

OMG DELLY YOU DIDN’T TAKE THE SHOT
I believe that’s 20 yes?
zero complaints.
I’d love to know their offensive efficiency on possessions that include the Delly-LeBron pick and roll. So many good things happen off that.
we need to find that.
Wow. What a great 2nd half.
Aww Delly should have chucked that up for 21 lol
had to be McRae to tie the record

Great great game.
#20 on 4/20!
Credit where credit is due: really seems like Lue made some good adjustments/gave a good pep talk/did something at halftime to change the entire game. This was one of my worries coming into the playoffs, but he can do it!
TIED THE RECORD!
Yes!!!!!!! Tied the record
Imagine if Kyrie had Delly’s court vision and offensive feel. Like just imagine that. It would be unreal.
And defensive tenacity?
And the ability to do a pick and roll?
Orange Mamba!!
Garbage time yet?
Lue wants that 20th three
I want that 20th three pointer!!!
Lue looks like a great playoff coach. Already more wins than Brad Stevens.
You have more wins than Brad Stevens…
Kyrie getin yelled at
Lue wants him to shoot a three to tie the record.
Lue wants him to not be a moron

Just wait till game 3
I am the Captain now!
Lol
Dear God is the meant to represent Reggie Jackson?
Maybe……
So whose going to be the Piston’s captain in game three?
Pass the ball Irving
Just two more for the record guys!

Cavs have outscored the Pistons 45-31 in the second half… (or, you know… since I started watching… ;)
MVP! MVP! MVP!
I feel like you haven’t been around for so long. Like weeks. Don’t know how accurate that is….
I was on the thread and recapped the game Sunday…
But yeah… switched jobs and was on Spring Break for a week as well…
As a man of science, I reject most superstition. But as a Cavs fan, I’ll take any coincidence, luck, and superstition I can get. In other words, thanks! I hope you watch every minute for the rest of the playoffs!
LeBron is playing at such a high level.
I really like kevin love. These refs do not.
JR smith had a heck of a game.
On that last Kevin3, Lebron literally ran and didnt even bother look for the rebound
Yeah. And Love didn’t disappoint.
As a strategy, wouldn’t you just never play JR in the final minutes of a game? Not that he’s the problem or anything, but any “close” call is invariably going to be against him…
JR smith could literally win a defamation lawsuit against these refs. Holy crap
Can we talk about how great our big three is!
I already did that Sunday…
Big Three II: Even Bigger and Three-er This Time
Then hopefully Big Three 3-D on Friday!
Didn’t meant to steal!
Lebron-Love-Delly?
haha
Delly & Frye are +26 for the game
That might have been a top play of the game . . . but there are so many! Most have included Delly in one way or another
He’s really making a case that he needs to be on court during crunch time – the ball movement with him on the court is always so much better.
Agreed 100%
LBJ’s most underrated skill is the pinpoint cross-court pass. Best of all-time at that. And that is not hyerbole.
https://vine.co/v/iFIQz7HDj0j
That was a ridiculous play by Lebron. All with his left hand for the corner to Love
HOLY CRAP! Love the ball movement!
What a play by LeBron to the UPG!!!!!
Correct me if I’m wrong, but in the second half TT has been playing some fantastic defense on Drummond. He hasn’t done a ton. Definitely less effective than he was in the first half (Drummond).
TT with a pretty quiet stat line though. Almost like he didn’t play
He didn’t play a lot. He got into foul trouble early.
I’ve only seen the second half… but I think you’re right about that…
LOVE THAT!! Ball movement! KLOVE!
Kyrie! Good lord…remember how to play basketball? Move the ball, make the easy pass, and move your body. Quit makin it look so difficult!
Without Irving dominating the first quarter we would have been in trouble.
I’m a a a airline for s iOS r of yo see are rash.
Totally, dude.
Nailed it.
Is that code for something? Or just a product of 4/20?
https://twitter.com/TheNotfatjewish/status/722974195991367680
The offense IS CLICKING. In the hunt to set the record for most 3pt’s made in a playoff game. Cleveland is currently at 18; record is 20.
Lue has once again our coaches gund
James should probably sit now…

Cavs really playing lights out D this quarter!
