Live Thread: Cavs vs. Bulls (#EnoughRope)
2017-10-24I’ve had a bit of a conspiracy theory about Ty Lue this season… and it involves a whole lot of rope. As the guy being tasked with balancing a roster full of interesting and disparate egos and personalities (which also now includes a former League MVP, as well as a three time champion/LeBron’s BFF), his work would seemingly be cut out for him. After all, he’ll most certainly get the lion’s share of the blame if he can’t find a way to overcome the aftermath of the summer of upheaval and tie (Ty?) this patchwork herd of current and waning stars together for yet another title run. But, he’s got to find relatively diplomatic ways of going about it that doesn’t ruffle too many feathers… ways that might initially make us scratch our collective heads and say “well, that doesn’t work at all dude.”
So, follow my thinking as I imagine Coach Lue kicking back with a fairly giant spindle of rope, giving out slack to say Iman Shumpert as he hijacks the offense and tries to flash back to his Georgia Tech days of poorly imitating a point guard… or JR Smith as he grouses about losing his starting spot… or most recently DWade as he goes from insisting he should start… to realizing his talents would best help the team off the bench. My point is, we might not collectively agree that Ty Lue always know how to steer his team… but I believe he’s willing to give his players plenty of rope to try to see what works…
Sometimes, it’s not going to be pretty (e.g. Saturday’s goring by the Magic), but have at least some faith that there’s a method to Ty’s wrangling… especially in these early stages.
Tonight, the Cavs try and lasso some Bulls, using a wholly different starting five. Ty is going to try LeBron at the one, with JR at the two, Jae Crowder at the three, Kevin Love at the four and reinsert Tristan Thompson at the five (not that positions seem to matter all that much with this team anymore). No matter how it works out… it should be interesting to watch…
I, for one, can’t wait for the Killer Shrimp tribute video at the end of the first quarter…
YEE-HAW!
Much like the Milwaukee game, Cavs had some great defensive moments which seemed to drive the offense. LeBron at the point with the “big” lineup could be really good, especially if JR can get it together. I think he was pressing due to getting the starting role back. Wade looked like Wade, he and Green were big in getting the score even so LeBron and Love could bring it home. Shump had the only negative +/- (-3) on the Cavs. They need to figure out something for him, hopefully not in a Cave uniform. To think we traded RJ and… Read more »
Wade was good too. After that first quarter Cavs were great.
Good rostions by Lue tonight.
Catching up on the thread and OMG Evil the Shump thing is amazing! Perhaps not a coincidence that the Urban Dictionary entry dates from not long after he was traded to the Cavs…
Missing THOMAS and Rose. And J.R. smith hasn’t found his shot. LeBron is a master.
Get used to missing Thomas.
Two more months.
Where does this certainty come from? The Cavs’ statement in late September only said that the team and Thomas were “hopeful” that he would be ready to return in January.
Where does this certainty come from? It’s Cols.
Cavs looked great in the 2nd half. Jeff Green has been so good so far.

This makes zero sense.
It’s called humor.

Totally cool!
Lance goin be Lance.
How is he doing this year?
I’m having trouble see how Jeff Green is as bad as the majority here thinks he is.
He has been better than most of his career through few games.
A few. Actually looks like he is trying on defense, though I really didn’t see much of this game
He’s just not good…he’ll have a good game, then 3 games where he is invisible…it’s late in the game to be thinking Green is good…
Maybe. But sometimes long time screwups get their act together when they get older, hopefully before they are too old to be any good.
J.R. Smith was pretty worthless before he was a Cav, and a pretty solid player since. That is the difference between being on a team with Carmelo and a team with LeBron.
Hey was ok with Boston and okc. He’s been garbage since. Orlando and Memphis he put a postage stamp on so many games. When he goes iso and shoots it’s generally a disaster. When he shoots wide open threes, runs the floor, cuts, and plays defense, he’s good. He can even handle a little. He’s just not a good shooter and takes. Dumb shots and gets lazy some times. Lue even said you have to get on him as a coach cause he coasts

Uh huh. I think he really screwed up his shot this summer.
START GROWING BACK YOUR HIGH TOP SHUMP MAYBE ( LIKE SAMSON ) THAT HAS MAGICAL POWERS—-IF NOTHING ELSE YOU APPEAR TALLER / MORE INTIMIDATING / HAIR BLOCKS THE SHOOTERS VISION
Isaiah thomas (1.0) and CWebb on nba TV. Ugh.
No needs for 1.0. Isiah vs Isaiah.
Time to shut down Shump with a mysterious illness, and play the Jedi.
Phoenixitis. Only playing in phoenix will cure him.
He’d be perfect on the Suns.
Would you trade the Nets pick for Markannan?
Yes.
Wow! Ok I will have to watch this game. He hasn’t been that great the other two games he has played. I mean we have a tendency to make guys look good in the regular season, especially three point shooters.
Way I see it, guy is a 20yo 7 footer with good moves and a sweet shot.
He played great in the postseason and has looked good his first 3 games as a rookie averaging 16.3pts/9rb.
Put him in a good team and with better mentors, and you’ll have a 20/10 guy.
I would gladly give up the Nets’ pick for those numbers from a rookie.
No. Bagley has the athletic ability to be an all time top ten player. Worth a gamble
Ok. Maybe I haven’t watched enough Bagley highlights because I didn’t see it. I could see him being good, very good, but not that good. We will see this college season though.
Check out his drew league highlights
Ok. Here is what I see. That was a glorified pickup game. Granted, against some nba players but I saw little to no boxing out or defense. He got a number of open dunks, putbacks, etc. He hit unchallenged jumpers. He has hops but not freakish hops like Blake Griffin, Deandre Jordan, or Dwight Howard coming out of high school. He does look very fluid. He does look much more skilled than most bigs coming out of high school though. I have no idea how good of a shot he actually has since I have never seen a full game,… Read more »
I may eat crow depending on what he looks like in college. Same with Porter.
Doncic >>>>>>> Markannin. No.

Like that he isn’t taking that lightly. Hopefully it gets addressed with some urgency to,the players.
WHAT IS OUR WAGER EVIL FOR THE SERIES
HOPE “DEEP FRYE ” EARNS REGULAR MINUTES AFTER TONIGHTS PERFORMANCE —–EVEN IF IT IS ONLY 7-9 MINUTES / GAME —-HE DESERVES THAT—CAVS CAN UTILIZE THOSE MINUTES
https://twitter.com/AmicoHoops/status/923000520406548480
THAT IS CORRECT EVILL—GORDON WAS OUT ———THANK GOD !!!
WE HAVE THE ” DRAFT PICK ” GAME ON WED VS THE NETS——BETTER LAY A LOSS ON THEM —EVERY LOSS MAY COUNT THIS YEAR
JUST DON’T SEE SHUMP GETTING ANY BETTER——TIME TO SEE WHAT JEDI/ CEDI BRINGS
Absolutely!
To me it’s all mental. He needs to prove he can play and tries too hard. The trying harder makes him worst and it becomes a vicious cycle. I’m not really sure when it all started.
Green, on the other hand, was trying too much during the preseason but during the past two games he’s settled down. He lets the flow of the offense come his way and isn’t holding the ball hostage like Shump does.
Nets lose. Russell with 25…on 8/22. I am sticking to my prediction that he will never be an efficient scorer.
Magic win! magic win!
THE “DYNASTY ” IS CRUMBLING—MAGIC BEAT THE NETS —GORDON WITH A MONSTER GAME —39 PTS
And Gordon didn’t even play against the Cavs, right?
I am guessing that was a career game so far. He was 5/5 on threes. Must have been an inferno since he has never shot above 29% from 3.
Nets lose. Again, they have an easy early schedule. I could see O for November.
Somewhere on a bizarro planet Shump is the MVP of the league.
Shump would do well in a Rick & Morty alternate timeline…
Well, we pulled it out. James tried to run out the clock a bit too early. Mostly good offense. Low TOs. Lots of dimes. Horrid D for the first half. Better in the second.
Green & Wade good tonight. James, Love, Crowder, & Korver were their normal selves.
Magic up 1 late.
WAS THINKING THE SAME ON THE NETS PICK BEING HIGHER THAN 7—–WOULD DEPEND WHAT IT WILL BRING AT TRADE DEADLINE// WHAT OUR NEEDS ARE—-FEEL FOR LEBRON RETURNING TO CLEVELAND OR NOT / WOULD A TRADE MAKE US COMPETITIVE ENOUGH TO BEAT THE DUBS
COULD BE A GOOD NIGHT FOR THE CAVS WITH THEIR “W”—” DYNASTY ” NETS ONLY UP BY 1 —-CELTS LAYING THE SMACK DOWN ON THE KNICKS—TATUM / BROWN COMBINED FOR 42 SO FAR
Holy cow, Aaron Gordon has 36 12/16 with 4/4 threes.
Bulls fail to play Kay Felder enough in his revenge game… fall to Cavs
LIKE IT —-KSHRIMP LOOKS LIKE WILL GET SOME RUN TIME WITH THE BULLS ——-GET THE “FORK ” READY FOR JOSE —IS SHUMP TOO YOUNG TO BE “FORKED “
That game was so much fun. I love this blog.
So now you hacking other accounts Cols?
Cols would say “I love this team.”
He would say I love this team and Delly is fat. And he would sat it at least four times.
Nice damage control, Cols….err, ‘Nate’…
So would you trade Nets pick if it was top 7 protected?
Heck yes.
I might even trade it if it was top 5 protected. Gotta look at the potential value of the pick versus the return we would get with protections. However, I don’t know much about anyone in the class besides Porter and Bagley who will probably be top 3. I don’t necessarily trust our front office to find gems outside the lottery.
True dat.
Sure, at that point, why not?
LeBron has 2 (maybe 3) more seasons of being top dog and the East is getting better. A good trade/sign by the Bucks, say they land Paul George, and they are right behind us with Giannis becoming the player he’s been for the past 3 games.
You do whatever you need to give LeBron a chance at the finals. Once he’s done, you’re tanking and rebuilding anyway.
Don’t look now… Cavs play at the playoff bound Nets tomorrow…
Seriously, this schedule sucks. The nba made the season start earlier to spread b2b’s, next thing you know we already have 2 b2b in opening week. What?
Well didn’t really get to watch much of the game. Will be interested in seeing what went on in the recap. Looks like a tale of two halves from the box score. Nice to see Frye guy back in the rotation.
