Live Thread: Warriors @ Cavs, NBA Finals Game 3
2016-06-08 Off By Mike Schreiner“Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things.” This famous line from The Shawshank Redemption may best encapsulate the feelings of the Cleveland Cavaliers and their fans. Down 2-0 in a best-of-seven series to the Golden State Warriors, a team that set the record for most wins in the regular season with 73, hope may be all that the Cavaliers have left.
But hope really is a wonderful thing. Without hope, what would be the point of watching basketball unless you were a Warriors fan? Even in this age of analytics, anything can happen, and that’s why we watch the games. We hope that the Cavaliers will play better defense. We hope they do a better job of moving the ball on offense. We hope that Kyrie Irving realizes he has made 8-of-9 baskets in the series when shooting after a pass, and just 4-of-27 when trying to score in isolation. We hope that the Cavaliers can win the rebounding and turnover battles in the same game for the first time this series, despite being without Kevin Love. We hope that Tyronn Lue‘s probable decision to start small by playing Richard Jefferson in Love’s place doesn’t play right into the Warriors’ hands. We hope that LeBron James finds his jumpshot. We hope that Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson continue to play like mere mortals. We hope that Leandro Barbosa realizes he is a mere mortal. We hope to not be confronted with the reality of Anderson Varejao active on the floor in the Finals for the other team. We hope to make this series more competitive than it has been. We hope to shut the mouths of members of the national media who fawn over the Warriors and rip Greater Cleveland and the people who choose to live there as if that is what they are paid to do. We hope—as impossible as it sounds—to make one of the most miraculous comebacks in sports history and end a 52-year championship drought.
We hope.
Wow that PnR was the fastest Moz move I’ve seen all year
I’m not kidding about McRae… dude has some terrific athleticism…
Shaky handle in my eyes.. But yeah
I really really really want to see McRae spell LeBron for 2 minutes in a real game
Mcrae can flat out score the BALL
McRae gets on the board!
Wow… refs just don’t care, letting Mozzy get away with that offensive basket interference… LOL

ORANGE MAMBA! Give that man some run!
I just LOLed at Mo and Moz guarding Barbosa…
I really believe the defense was a lot better with RJ in the starting line up but I also have to say that the Cavs knocked down their shots and that should be huge for their confidence going forward.
Mo with the board! Mozzy with the unfortunate handle…

JFJ free throws…
Maintain lead guys. Maintain lead. Don’t want lue to panic and put starters back in.
Terrible call on the Mozgov foul.
Ok I’m all for Shump and Delly taking all shots the rest of this minutes now to get them going
And Delly sees the ball go through the hoop!
Wombat Runner!

Really don’t want the Warriors to hit 90 points and would love us to win by 30 or minimum 25 to shut some peeps up.
I think Love gets a raw deal at times, but how can you not strongly consider bringing him off on the bench in Game 4?
On Friday you hold up three fingers and ask Love how many he sees. When he says three, you say, “Sorry, Kevin, only two. Gotta sit again.”
This game cannot be over fast enough. Hopefully James and Irving can come out and somehow the cavs can maintain a double digit lead for the last 4 minutes.
Pretty sure the Cavs don’t win this game without Kyrie going supernova in the first quarter. How are they going to do that three more times?
Not sure but if they can throw enough movement into their offense, they might not have to.
Helluva game Cavs, helluva game
Even your pal LeBron… ;)
If they can protect home court… anything can happen…
Kind of wish Green was still out there so that he could get a tech.
EG, if you ever remake the Shawshank Redemption, Ron Adams has to play warden Hadley.
That’s blasphemy… but yes
Agree with Marc Jackson for once. Jefferson really makes a difference on d. And Kyrie generally played pretty decent d tonight other than a few minor breakdowns.
This is JR’s best game in 9 games in the finals so far
So… do you play KLove next game…?
The minimal as possible. Also I hope what he sees fuels him so much.
If he’s healthy, yes. This game was far more about how the Cavs were playing than who was playing.
Curry has 16 points in the second half, I don’t like him starting to hit his shots
Most of them in the third tho…
Yea I know, but still he’s making shots
So Love off the bench going forward.
Would certainly help with the bench scoring ; )
What I really liked about the Cavs tonight is the defensive effort. If they can defend like this from now on we can at least get a good series but it has to be consistent.
Man, I really want them to win by like 30…
Warriors’ bench is still playing very well. Livingston, Iggy and Barbosa are 9-14. Hopefully that means they’ll finally cool off in Game 4, when it might actually matter.
I want us to win by 25-30, minimum 20
Great d by frye on thompson. Not so great close out or contest by ky on curry 3 point play. If I was Kerr I would play his starters the rest of the game just to make james and the starters play huge minutes.
Closeout by tt and contest by ky.
Frye is really scary on D in PnRs. Kind of fun to watch when you are up 26.
I’m watching on a really crappy feed so cant tell…is Curry getting actually fouled every time he drives or are they just calling them for breezes that blow his way?
LeBron James can be a devastating power forward.
Really Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra are geniuses
LeBron with the moses malone bucket.

Moving screens don’t work as much in Cleveland…
First to 100 wins
That’s how you run people off the line cavs!! Great closes on the barbosa 2
Cavs are gonna break 100!
Yes! Way to pass it Ky!

Nice hustle Bron.
AND ONE! The LEBRON-KEY play!

Close this out, Cavs. No momentum into game 4.
Man I hate to say this but we are a more athletic/aggressive tram without Love :(
*team
Well except for a couple breakdowns, the cavs have played super energetic good d tonight. Hopefully we can keep this energy and focus up the rest of this game and next game.
I could see Kerr leaving Steph in even if it’s 20+ real late just to try to keep him in rhythm. I get why Westbrook, CP3, and all of these guys are so annoyed by Steph. I don’t dislike him, but he gets a free pass, and if he isn’t hitting shots (he usually is) he’s a complete net negative on the Warriors.
Yeah could see that even with 8 minutes left, he would still only have 36 minutes tonight.
Yes! Finally we’re the team throwing elbows and acting mean. This was how we played last year!
Should be a flagrant on Klay for hitting Frye in the face IMHO…
Love Kyrie’s reaction to JR’s 3…now the Cavs want to play run the clock offense
JR SWISHHHH…Lebron could only pass that ball to smith or Irving with 5 seconds to go to just make something happen
https://vine.co/v/i3d176Le0bP
Lebron’s handles smh..
Have we ever seen this lineup before? LeBron RJ frye Shump smith?
Barnes going for that Max deal tonight…
From us?? ;)
Shump actually makes a shot and that’s our first bench points for the game
The Cavs’ first bench points of the night, by Shump

Common rj dunk that
The JR Breakout Game…
I think Delly has played himself out of the rotation
Maybe. Think it’s re of a riding the starters heavy issue. They’ll need him next game.
SHUMP!! Okay, I take back three bad things I said about you…
Wow! Frye with two deflections!
Frye with some good D early in the 4th.
We really have to win easily so that we can get some confidence. Last year, the 4th quarter of game 3 was the turniong point of the series, even though we won that game.
FRYE-BLOCK!!!
38 points in 1 quarter for the Cavs. 89 at the end of 3
Cleveland had 89 points in game 1 and 77 in game 2
I don’t think anyone thought RJ could still finish this well. Oh wait, I did.

Yo, not the time for any bragging but.. I called that in the offseason that a wing of the bench is a critical need more than a 3rd backup point.. :) Me and EG had a mini argument on that.
How do I know the Warriors are a special special team? We are up 20 and I don’t feel sure at all about us winning this game.
