Live Thread: Warriors @ Cavs, NBA Finals Game 3
2016-06-08 Off By Mike Schreiner“Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things.” This famous line from The Shawshank Redemption may best encapsulate the feelings of the Cleveland Cavaliers and their fans. Down 2-0 in a best-of-seven series to the Golden State Warriors, a team that set the record for most wins in the regular season with 73, hope may be all that the Cavaliers have left.
But hope really is a wonderful thing. Without hope, what would be the point of watching basketball unless you were a Warriors fan? Even in this age of analytics, anything can happen, and that’s why we watch the games. We hope that the Cavaliers will play better defense. We hope they do a better job of moving the ball on offense. We hope that Kyrie Irving realizes he has made 8-of-9 baskets in the series when shooting after a pass, and just 4-of-27 when trying to score in isolation. We hope that the Cavaliers can win the rebounding and turnover battles in the same game for the first time this series, despite being without Kevin Love. We hope that Tyronn Lue‘s probable decision to start small by playing Richard Jefferson in Love’s place doesn’t play right into the Warriors’ hands. We hope that LeBron James finds his jumpshot. We hope that Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson continue to play like mere mortals. We hope that Leandro Barbosa realizes he is a mere mortal. We hope to not be confronted with the reality of Anderson Varejao active on the floor in the Finals for the other team. We hope to make this series more competitive than it has been. We hope to shut the mouths of members of the national media who fawn over the Warriors and rip Greater Cleveland and the people who choose to live there as if that is what they are paid to do. We hope—as impossible as it sounds—to make one of the most miraculous comebacks in sports history and end a 52-year championship drought.
We hope.
LOL at Klay calling the Moz play “dirty”… from the guy who shattered Kyrie’s kneecap on a similar play last year… what a joke…
Seriously? That was a borderline foul even, as far as screens go…wonder if he’s going to call out Bogut or Bray for their screens? I mean, wouldn’t that be logical and fair? Wouldn’t he want to be fair?
Utterly ridiculous. So running up and standing in the way is dirty. Pathetic.
Wasn’t even a foul. Moz beat Klay to the spot and didn’t stick out his leg or knee.
InstaCap is up!

Didn’t Kerr discover the death lineup by accident last year because Bogut got into foul trouble or maybe was just being outplayed so badly by Mozgov? Would be ironic if this year Lue found the best counter to it because Barnes concussed Love.

Needed this game, guys. I had the faith, but I needed to see the team I watched all year. Renewed my soul.
Right there with you man
Think if we’re being honest we all did.
Mike Fratello wore a St. Vincent/St. Mary’s shirt tonight on NBATV. Man, I love that guy.
I ditched my “All In” shirts tonight and went old school with my late 80s orange Cavs shirt with the basketball logo…
I ditched my delly Jersey for an ALL IN shirt!
LOL… whatever works, right?
Wonder if the narrative from the Bill Simmons level ‘analysts’ out there is going to go back to “how seriously must Curry be injured??”
Uggh, if they say that they’re idiots.
No. What they’ll do is obsess over Kevin Love for 48 hours and babble on with all sorts of simplistic narratives about how he is soft, the Cavs don’t need him, we shouldn’t have traded for him, he has no trade value now, etc.
Oh, they’ll definitely be doing that, too…I mean, why not both??
Haha. Yeah, true. They also obsess over LBJ’s greatness in a good way. His 2nd half was out of this world.
Wonder if we can get anything for Shump in the offseason? Hes wildly overpaid
He’s barely overpaid and will be a steal when the cap goes up, and also still has growth potential. No need to get rid of him
Thought they had a great comment during the game. Shump had a ton of energy, but he didn’t know how to channel it.
He channels it into turnovers….duh
I think Shump still has a ton of potential… he probably just needs an off season where he’s not injured to work on getting back to being a defensive stopper…
He ain’t overpaid with the coming cap situation, but I think he might be expendable going forward as early as next year sad to say.
Moondog is such a sellout…

Moondog is everybody’s bud
1. well, nice win but it’s just 1 game. Warriors were complacent and didn’t show up. Game 4 will be different. They will be mad, emotional and ready to play. They will want to win so they can close it out at home in game 5 2. Starters played mostly with limited rotation. Bench scored only 3 pts b4 starters were pulled. Frye zero points and Delly apparently lost a lot of confidence from coaching staff in this series. Shump needs to stop dribbling. 3. JR – nice to see him get confidence; we need that in EVERY game. His… Read more »
Frye didn’t just have 0 points he had 0 shots. That has to change game 4 cause I kind of doubt James shoots js as well next game.
But he did have a big block and one sequence where he batted the ball away twice on Iggy passes…
Frye? Yeah he was much better defensively. I’ll say downright good. I am not putting this on frye. His job isn’t to create his own shot much. Somehow they have to get kickouts to him though.
Geez. Enjoy the win.
Ty Lue when asked how he would use KLove if he’s good to go in Game 4… “Do I have to tell you?” Reporter, “No.” Lue: “Then I’m not gonna tell you.”
Priceless…
When Warriors had to start guarding LeBrons jumper he was able Tom low right past them.
Hopefully he doesn’t regress. Maybe he has more focus with his j at home.
If only the Cavs had won 17 more games during the season, they’d have home-court advantage. So close…
17 offensive boards… Wow!
One of TT’s signature O rebounding games. He needs to do that every single game this series…
Cavs hit their magic 23 assist number…

The greatest thing I have ever seen.
I can’t stop watching this. I need to meet the person who made it.
I know… it combines my two favorite memes from the past two years…
Still weird to me that they cannot get Frye a single shot. Cannot figure that.
Good point. Shump’s 3 was the only bench scoring before Kerr ran up the white flag.
Frye played some good D when he was in there tho…
Agree with that. He was one on one with klay at one point on the perimeter and shut him down. Forced klay to pass out.

Not getting my hopes up, but a not-completely-crazy scenario that would make things very interesting: Cavs win Game 4, Braymond picks up a flagrant. Go to Oakland 2-2 and he’d be out for Game 5…
K-Love needs to come off the bench.
JR getting going might be bigger than anything.
Not bigger than Kyrie actually playing defense tho…
Also huge is Lebron finding his shot (somewhat)
Stephen A. with the clown show on ESPN….they’re paying him millions, so they have to make him work, I guess…
I don’t think ESPN pays him unless he craps on someone. So he’s crapping on the Splash Brothers tonight.
He literally knows nothing. The cavs d tonight as opposed to the previous games amazing on both of them.
RJ really brought it tonight. His defense on Livingston was terrific, and he helped all over the place.
At least humiliation was avoided.
Almost wonder how we fit love back in defensively.
Cavs +20 on the boards, 52 VS 32
I expect Friday to be a dogfight. I especially expect Bray to come out strong….maybe he’ll come out so intense he finally gets that suspension…
Yep. As long as we play the same intensity of d we have an ok chance even if our offense regresses a bit.
YIKES!! “LeBron James second half. 21 points, seven rebounds, four assists, one steal, two blocks, 9-of-12 and plus-22.”
Thankfully James only had to play 40 minutes tonight. This is not sarcasm. It is good they kept the lead so he could at least rest those last 4 minutes.
Overall good win. Defense was the biggest difference. Offensively they ran a lot of the same but made some tough shots, eg any James jumper, the JR threes, and Irving’s scorching first quarter. Also TT was huge in the second when our offense stalled into oblivion. I expect the hot shooting to regress but the defense definitely can and should continue.
Most impressive part was how the Cavs came out in the 3rd Q. Ws made run before half and had to smell blood. Cavs responded. That was impressive.
If you don’t mind watching an ad that’s almost as long as the clip, here’s the LeBron oop in all its glory: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=16058495
Great win tonight and sorely needed…not sure who is the stat historian here but Cavs have to be first team to every lose a game by 30 then win next game by 30 in any playoff series, let alone Finals one. Game 4 will be huge…thought Curry was starting to get hot there before game got out of hand….Cavs really have to hammer him all the time. Barnes is playing out of his mind this series…think if Warriors win they may give him some love, only consistent scorer on team so far this series….also agree that even if Love is… Read more »
Thank god. No matter what else happens, we arent getting swept.
Amen to that
Cavs more than anything else have to keep the same intensity defensively on friday because i don’t necessarily expect james to make jumpshots again or for irving to be super hot in the first.
Let’s hope Kyrie did some growing up tonight.
Was just thinking that… yes he scored a lot… but his defense was a real difference tonight…
Best I have seen from him. Still made a couple tactical errors, but huge huge progress.
Figures the games in Cleveland just get one day between them…
Well of course. Any possible miniscule advantage the NBA can give the golden boys, they will.
35 points for Curry, Klay and Green combined. Lowest all season..Big defense on Green holding him to 6 points after his big game…glad we didn’t need to witness his boasting tonight
Everything is awesome

30 POINT WIN!
That Mo to Moz dish will be in the Not Top 10…
So Green was the one yelling at everyone and he played the most like s***. Nice.
