Cavs Extend Alonzo Gee Qualifying Offer
2012-06-29In less earth-shattering news, the Cavs have given Alonzo Gee a qualifying offer, which makes him a restricted free agent this summer and the Cavaliers will have the option to match any offer Gee gets from other teams. It has been rumored the Phoenix Suns might offer him something in the 4 yr/$16 mil range, but at this stage it’s just a rumor. At any rate, the free agency market opens up on July 1st, and we’ll soon find out if another team is dumb enough to overpay a sixth or seventh man. If not, I’m highly in favor of bringing Gee back, especially considering he may be the best option available to start at small forward.
Also woudn’t mind Rasul Butler possibly. Good shooter can play SF. I’m looking for cheap upgrades here.
Anyone else think Batum is worth an offer? If the Blazers pick up a big free agent of their own, they won’t be able to spend much on him. He’s young, and plugs the Cav’s only real weak spot offensively.
I see the the Sixers didn’t extend an offer to Jodie Meeks. Good shooting back up I assume we can get cheaply. Also wonder about trying to get Anthony Randolph, as Minny made him unrestricted. For little money would probably be a good bench guy. Just throwing it out there…
I want to start the Jeff Green Train. He can play either forward he adds size, athleticism and scoring. He an play PF when we go small or sf when we go big. I want Jeff Green.
i really like effort gee puts in and he never seems put off by who he is guarding. Hope he is back for sure.
“May” be the best option to start at SF next year? I think you mean “Is overwhelminglt the best option to start at SF next year,” considering our other options are Omri Casspi or completely over-paying for another free agent SF. Would rather overpay a bit to kepp Gee then wildly overpay to lure a comparable FA here.
In other news, Harangody was extended a qualifying offer… WHEW. I was sweating whether he would be back or not.
I desperately want Gee back next year. He’d be a great to bring back for this very athletic squad and he wouldn’t be asked to score as much obviously. If it’s true that the Suns want to offer him that contract, I’d want the Cavs to match it in a heartbeat.
