Cavs “very involved” in talks for Amare Stoudemire
2010-02-12Via Woj’s twitter, the Cavs and Celtics are about to go “head-to-head” for Antawn, and the Cavs are “very involved” in talks for Amare. Wow. I’m on the clock for NBC, but this seems discussion-worthy. For my Amare manifesto, go here.
Phoenix has a choice though. I’m guessing they are still talking to Miami more than Cleveland.
I HAVE BEEN A CAVS FAN SINCE THEN COLLUSIUM WHEN WE HAD NATE THURMAND. WE HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO CHOICE BUT TO DO THE DEAL FOR AMARE. PUT HIM ON OUR TEAM AND GO THROUGH OUR LINE-UP AND TELL ME WHO WOULD BEAT US THEN IN THE FINALS? STARTING FIVE WOULD BE :
SHAQ/MO/LEBRON/AMARE/DELONTE THEN OFF THE BENCH:
BIG Z/ANDY/PARKER/BOOBIE/MOON; THESE GUYS WOULD START ON JUST ABOUT ANY OTHER TEAM. WOW!
Sounds like they want us to take J Rich too? That means wally is going to HAVE to come out of retirement.
One thing I like about dealing with the Suns is that Steve Kerr is not going to screw us by not letting us have Z back.
NOOOO!!!!! If Amare was really an elite player, then the Suns would not be trying to offload him. A me-first, no -defense guy? Exact opposite of what makes the Cavs successful (i.e., Varajeo)
it’s not the assets the Cavs will give up, it’s the fit for this year. I dunno, maybe this is a trade for the future when Shaq is retired to Florida
If we trade for Amare, we have to secure a long term extension for him before we agree to anything. Losing him in two years (same thing with Jamison) is not what we want to consider, as we’ll be watching Hickson grow and flourish elsewhere. It could happen, and you have to trade JJ for Amare to do it – the only thing holding him back is his injuries, and his psyche, but things are much easier playing next to LeBron and Shaq. If he agrees to a reasonable extension, it also gives us a peek at how willing he… Read more »
@aaron: JJ’s recent growth has been great, but you really wouldn’t trade JJ for Amare? In the best case possible scenario, JJ will end up as good as Amare some day. Amare is one of the best power forwards in this league. Everyone speaks to JJ’s rawness and how young he is, but I don’t know that his potential is as high as what Amare is now. I think a trade like that is a no-brainer for me. His defense is probably slightly better than JJ’s (who knows, maybe MB can get him to be stellar), and his offense is… Read more »
If we can trade Wally and some low bench crud for it, aight.
If we have to trade JJ, I dunno. And the costs are starting to add up, too.
Woj also reported that Butler and Jamison were going to Boston for Ray Allen, so I don’t put a lot of stock in this.
