Trade Deadline Rumors
2013-02-21Well, there’s barely any time left, and the NBA Trade Deadline will have soon passed. The Cavs don’t have much going on this year, but let’s take a look at some rumors:
Jason Lloyd reported that the Cavs are trying very hard to get another first round pick, one way or another.
Sam Amico reported that the Cavs were approached by the Lakers about Daniel Gibson, but talks stalled. He also says: “If Spurs’ bid for Redick fails, may settle by making bid for Cavs’ Daniel Gibson at last minute, source says. Would offer 2nd-rd pick.” Interesting.
Hoopsworld reported that Casspi-Speights is a package the Cavs could move. Perhaps for Dejuan Blair?
I lovehow people compkain that we have too many 1st round picks. Ctp14 i realize u werent complaining. But the wizards announced today they will try to lose more than us
Cavs MUST be planning a big move…no way we add 10 rookies in the next few years to this team…
Milwaukee goes from fighting for the 7 or 8 seed to fighting for the 5 or 6 seed. Exciting.
Kyrie –
Totally agree. Was a frustrated moment. I just remember being completely lambasted for thinking it was going to be meaningless.
Totally agree with you about the cap neutral situation. Most teams were happy enough with the cap situation which seems like it’s the dictating factor in nearly every team’s thinking right now. Interesting that only a couple of teams (SA, OKC, Boston, NJ, Miami, LAL, and, weirdly, Milwaukee) were seen as buyers.
What a disappointing trade deadline. I’m not upset that the Cavs stood pat, just a little underwhelmed that the best player moved was Redick. The league didn’t exactly get shaken up.
Cols, any chance you modify your position that Grant is flawless, since he didn’t trade Speights?
KSwI
Yeah, you are right. Why would anyone trade anything for Casspi or Gibson or Speights? Good point. Now we are stuck with those guys.
I don’t buy that no one wants to deal with Grant. Morey is perhaps the only GM in the league to pull off more trades than Grant in the past three years. If Grant is shrewd that isn’t a bad thing. He has flipped cap flexibility and the scraps from the Lebron era into tangible assets. I didn’t see Speights getting moved. Not because Grant wouldn’t do it, but because no other team would offer him a future first for a guy who could have been had for free a month ago. MS is a decent third or forth big.… Read more »
Cols, don’t question grant, I thought that was your Number one Priority on this site, was to correct those who question him. (outside of moving verajoa before he was inevitably going to suffer a blood clot, what a dummy!). And Mallory Factor, that “I told you so” is so stooping to Cols level. Cmon now. And ya, Nate, I’m pretty sure if no one wanted to deal with grant we wouldn’t have been able to rob memphis a couple weeks ago. Of course, after seeing that, I’m sure it didn’t help others want to deal with grant in the future.… Read more »
Sorry about my freaking out. The fact is because of the shortening of contract lengths, the deadline will probably end up being much less of a crazed time. Unless there’s 100% certainty that a star is leaving (and that there are teams out there who can sign that player for what they want) it’s going to become increasingly hard to make huge blockbuster deals among competitive teams. What I mean is it’ll be increasingly hard for teams to find MULTIPLE partners for one trade without those partners blowing up what they have. Because of the cap, max contracts will become… Read more »
I think there just wasn’t anything out there for us. I’m glad we didn’t trade boobie for devin ebanks or whatever.
It could also be that no one wanted to deal with Grant. They got a reputation last off-season of being a team that likes to jerk people around. Might have bit them in the butt.
Don’t worry MF, your best friends Livingston and Speights are still here. Unfortunately for you, Speights is gone after this year. Enjoy his 23 minutes per game and 43% shooting while it lasts!!!!!
The trade deadline is but a walking shadow, a poor player. That struts and frets his hour upon the stage. And then is heard no more: it is a tale. Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
I should add everyone said Luke Walton’s contract was a big piece to future moves AND CALLED ME CRAZY FOR SAYING IT WOULDN’T BE AS VALUABLE
Remember that time everyone said Luke Walton’s expiring contract was a big piece to future moves?
I’m not surprised we didn’t see a move. I still don’t see the scrambling to collect more picks unless there’s an immanent huge trade coming, but whatever.
MORE CRAZY CAVS BENCH!
I must say that I am happy that the Cavs stood pat today. Speights should resign here. (and Ellington/Livingston). Andy coming back next year with a more experienced Tigger and Z and all of the sudden, we look like a 6-8 seed. Also, I don’t care what they say about being a low playoff seed is a bad spot to be. That is complete BS. That first playoff series is a sign of growth and the guys need to start tasting that flavor ASAP in order to get that playoff experience.
I have to agree. Now, that’s in minimal PT- but the man has extensive knee cartilage damage, and he’s really short.
Gross. As much as I have no use at all for Casspi or Speights, I have less use for Dejaun Blair. A guy averaging 3 rebounds and 5 points per game? pass.
