Link to the Present: Gasol Trade Talk Progressing
2014-01-05According to Brian Windhorst and Ramona Shelburne, talks between the Lakers and Cavs are ongoing, with a trade hoped for today. There have also been discussions between the Cavs and Jazz, about Richard Jefferson.
If the Cavs include an asset to get Gasol, it better be a second round draft pick. Anything else would be a pretty big panic move to receive a 33-year old, half year rental.
Update: Adrian Wojnarowski reports the Cavs will not be including Dion Waiters as the extra “asset” in any trades for Gasol.
Jim Buss is the ultimate study in game theory: negotiating with non-rational actors. On one hand Kobe probably came to him with some pie-in-the-sky number, and Jim said yes. On another hand, he has no problem flushing 20 million down the toilet in a losing year so he can try to leverage one draft pick. Give him that goofy Kings pick and be done with it.
Waiters is the Cavs second best asset after Kyrie. Trading him and not getting back another longterm building block is insane.
Jake found a way to surpass Nates Anthony Bennett trade proposals for worst of the year. Congrats.
Jake, come on, dude. I try to not be attacking but that’s just retarded. EVERY CAVS PLAYERS BEST GAMES ARE USUALLY IN LOSSES. They are 10-23. So Kyries best games are in losses we should trade him too.
To say Dion isn’t working out is ridiculous.
I like Pau for Bynum straight up, but I do wonder how much Pau really helps us. Pau likes to operate out of the post, and the Bynum experiment showed that our young guys really have no idea how to play off a post guy. It seems like if we add Pau, we are back to a team with a confused identity on offense – talented, young, ball dominant guards paired with an declining post player.
Does anyone feel Bynum will play well with Kyrie and Dion? Can he be a PnR guy with them? I need some convincing.
Jack is out with back spasms. That’s the best news we’ve gotten in two weeks.
…LA is crazy, no one is giving up Dion or a first rounder for a 1/2 year rental crybaby. Mitch Kupchak is trying to pull a Jedi Mind trick.

These aren’t the droids my A$$!!!
Jake you just got nominated for worst trade proposal of 2014. Come on man. If we are trading Dion we can get a lot more than Jodie Meeks. and that other guy you mentioned. Bynum for Pau straight up. Or include Young and a top 20 protected 1st.
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ktgzc9c This should happen. Clearly Dion isn’t working, his best games are when the cars lose. Look he is shooting like 38 percent in wins and like 44 percent in loses. Jodie meeks has improved a lot this year. He gives the cavs a real three point shooter and he has shown the ability to be an athletic driver. Clearly tristan didn’t work with bynum bc Bynum was taking tristans space in the paint. TT works perfectly with Pau as pau works mostly in the 13-15 foot range. A kyrie meeks earl/henry tt pau starting lineup could be good and… Read more »
