Appropriately listed as one of Cavs all-time Top 5 players, Austin Carr’s undeniable scoring talent injected hope and pride into a pitiful franchise in those formative years. His role with the beloved Miracle in Richfield team and his perpetually upbeat loyalty to the franchise and city have appropriately cemented his local popularity as “Mr. Cavalier.” That said, he is a nightmare on team game broadcasts. At the risk of being accused of being a curmudgeon, as AC is a much-beloved Cavs figure, it seems to me that he is wildly overrated as an NBA player. At his best, he was an inefficient volume scorer for a few seasons. Then he suffered a major injury and wasn’t even that. He was a right-place-at-the-right-time guy, the promising No. 1 overall pick playing on an expansion team with an aging Hall of Famer and little other talent. But he never was that good.
