Midnight Windhorst Rumor Dump!!
2010-06-30Well, one exciting thing happened at approximately 12:01 Eastern Standard Time: Brian Windhorst’s Twitter feed blew up with some Cavs rumors. Here they are, with my quick analysis in parentheses:
Sometime today the #Cavs are expected to contact Brendan Haywood. There is a chance of a double sign-and-trade to Dallas with Shaq.
(Great, great move. Cavs desperately need a defense-and-rebounding center. Heck, they desperately needed a quality defense-and-rebounding center last year. Former Wizards frontcourt for the win.)
#Cavs also expected to contact shooting guards Ray Allen, John Salmons and Mike Miller at some point on July 1.
(Love, love love Ray Allen, even after the Finals. Don’t see him leaving Boston now that Doc is coming back. Really a family over there, and CLE is a bit of a mess. Really like Mike Miller, although I do have questions about his defense. I think LeBron would be able to get Miller open looks, and convince him to actually shoot when he gets them. No thank you to Salmons.)
The Cavs obviously will have interest in Chris Bosh & Amare’ Stoudemire, but likely would not get serious unless they re-sign LeBron.
(Catch-22. I feel like Bosh doesn’t really want to come here, and we’ve been through this with Amar’e before. Still, hope is a wonderful thing.)
Why isn’t Anthony Morrow on this list?
I think perhaps “ceiling” is not the word I should’ve used. What I am saying is that, like Izzo, Shaw is a bit of an unknown quantity – and Scott is not, so much. The Cavs as a whole are the most ‘known quantity’ to LBJ – and he knows what that quantity is capable of: not winning a championship. Clearly this doesn’t mean that another team + LBJ will necessarily win a championship. But I do think the Cavs need to offer some sort of significant change, or at least the prospect of such, to get LBJ to return.… Read more »
Wow, for once I found myself nodding my head in agreement with Jimmy’s point. It seems the best coaches usually tend to have the best players.
I hope you all are keeping up with Windy’s Titter feed today. This is some of the funniest shit I’ve read in a long time.
My $.02 – Byron Scott could be a good fit. This article nicely sums up his selling points. http://www.cleveland.com/pluto/blog/index.ssf/2010/07/byron_scott_is_right_choice_to.html The good: Scott is a disciple of the Pat Riley school. He is of course most famous for his playing days with the ’80’s Lakers under Riley, and knows what it takes to win it all. He has Riley’s fiery leadership style, won’t be intimidated by having a megastar on his team and won’t tolerate any slacking. He knew a thing or two about outside shooting in his day, so that could bode well for people like Mo Williams and Parker… Read more »
Love idea of Haywood, been hoping Cavs could give him MLE (or preferrably portion of it) all year. but Dallas won’t want Shaq unless Cuban has recently had a stroke impeding his brain function maybe Z sign & trade? Cant see it after last year, really, both the weirdness & his deteriorating body (love the guy, it’s just the truth & i’m sure Dallas knows how limited he is at this point in career) ive heard speculation Shaw wouldn’t commit until Lebron was on board. Makes sense, as 1st head coachign job you dont want possibility of coaching post-Lebron cavs,… Read more »
Before Boston got the Big 3, I think we all knew what Doc Rivers ceiling was. Before Joe Torre went to the Yankees, it was totally obvious what his ceiling was. Mike Shanahan’s ceiling is the Super Bowl – when was the last time he’s come close to going to one? Since that is his ceiling, he should get to it evey year yes?
Situations change, people change, things change. Not saying Scott was the best or worst choice out there but to just dismiss based on nothing substantial at all is silly.
Wouldnt mind Haywood even though he talked trash about Lebron during the Wizards Cavs playoffs…but whatever…as long as he can help us out where we need help the most then I’ll take it….interesting point…we drafted Haywood and then traded him for someone (i forget who) and now we could get him in S&T….hmmm I’d take Salmons over any of the ohter guys….every team he has been too has improved dramatically…the Bulls in 09 the Bucks last year…he’s a solid defender and would definitely complement Lebron….i have noticed he does shoot a lot but im sure he’ll change his ways a… Read more »
Haywood for Shaq great deal. If we could keep the core we have and sign Miller that would definately be a great addition. I however strongly believe we need another PG. I love Mo but we need somone who can play D too. Unless Telfair turns out to be a solid creator and can cover Rondo and Nelson we still have to address that position first.
@scott
Scott’s ceiling is known? Wow.
Yeah, his ceiling is taking a Nets team to the finals back-to-back… turning a New Orleans team that was nothing into something. When Scott was fired last year, their superstar point guard CP3 was extremely disappointed and upset, and their team sucked after Scott was fired.
Scott’s ceiling is known? What are you talking about?
I definately wanted Shaw..however I’m not sure how one or the other pushed LeBron out the door. Really, I think the best case could be made that the guy with experience would be likely to keep LeBron than the guy with none. I don’t think either is really going to have a huge impact though.
Scott may not be the best coach, but the player in this league who respects him the most is CP3. Bring CP3 to Cleveland baby!
Very disappointed they chose Scott over Shaw. They had to show willingness to take a risk on a coach whose ceiling is unknown. Scott’s ceiling is known.
I’m no fortune teller, but this would seem to point to the door for LeBron.
Why no thank you to John Salmons? Dude plays great D. If you want Mike Miller over John Salmons, you gotta be blazed up.
Cavs must have been desperate to hire that joke of a coach. He is no better than Mike Brown. If LeBron stays, his career is doomed. Run LeBron !! Run away as fast as you can!!
BYRON SCOTT!!! Welcome to the Family!
