Your Free Agency Roundup/Open Thread
2010-06-30As of right now, here’s what we’re looking at:
-According to several sources, there is a very good chance LeBron will re-up with the Cavs after all, although some are saying the Bulls remain the clubhouse leader.
-It looks like Chris Bosh is the one who screwed a LeBron “superteam” up — Bosh wants a max deal, and isn’t willing to waver on that. That means LeBron would have to take a significant pay cut to join Bosh in Miami, and Chicago won’t have the cap space unless they can move Deng, whom the Raptors do not want in a sign-and-trade.
Part of me is sad that LeBron won’t get to play with Bosh, in Cleveland or elsewhere, but if this is what keeps LeBron in Cleveland, then God bless that crazy Predator.
-It looked like Brian Shaw was going to be the guy, but current reports say that the Cavs are looking to make a deal with Byron Scott. Right as I was starting to get excited about LeBron in the triple-post offense, too.
-The AP is saying that LeBron will meet with the Knicks on Thursday. If he does sign tonight/early Thursday morning, that would be an awkward/hilarious meeting. Maybe LeBron’s next venture will be a Punk’d-esque show.
-That’s what I’m hearing/reading for now. More updates as they come in. Have a fun night, everyone.
Just to keep everyone up to date on the fun, the Knicks are doing some sort of wierdo presentation to LeBron. They just had people unload a bunch of computers that they will be using at the presentation. Love it.
What are the chances that the Byron Scott hire, combined with the rumors that he was on the trading block, combined with the Hornets great point guard play while he was out last season equal a Chris Paul trade for the Cavs? I would bet that would make a case with the King.
Well Colin, when you are a LeBron only fan (I think LeBron might have more fans than any actual team) then you only think about LeBron being on some dream team like the guys above.
Go listen to what Barkley said..if LeBron goes to Miami he will be piggybacking onto to Dwayne Wade. LeBron will be a 2nd fiddle and will NEVER be in the same sentence as Jordan..ever.
And there’s one major difference between KG’s situation and LeBron’s… the Cavs actually try to win every year. Minnesota didn’t do that when KG was there.
@john: If only it were that easy…
celtics fan here. I love playing you guys in these playoffs and really hope you get lebron back partly because i don’t think anyone wants to see lebron wade and bosh on the same team. But why not trade williams for CP3 or whatever you have to attach to it so it works. Trade hickson and west or anyone frankly for a legitimate power forward no offense to varejao. Hope to see you guys next year and continue to build on this rivalry.
@ Jack Smith. Totally agree with you. Lebron should listen to KG when he said, “I could have done it earlier”. Those were his words when he won a championship with Boston, after being stuck with Minnesota for years without a ring. Lebron can only increase his market value if he has championship rings. I doubt it if he can get it in Cleveland.
yes, do the cover it live.
Ok, that’s my contribution to the opening night of insanity. Going to bed.
Knicks are heading for the real rock bottom.
Johnson looking to re-sign with ATL. Amare middle of the road towards NYK. Bosh leaning towards Miami. So..the Knicks get..David Lee? Tracy McGrady for 3 players and two 1st round draft picks sounds relly, really awesome right now doesn’t it New York?
Tide is turning in favor for Cleveland in twitter world. People on TV still think Chicago (I think Reinsdorf totally kills that notion, and I’ll tell you why later). Reports are Wade is not recruiting LeBron..although because of the mass mis-information reporters are geting and then reporting..who knows. Maybe the sky is yellow..just not sure.
Not even gonna touch on most of the Cavs rumors…just touch and feel stuff right now. Sure they are contacting everyone about everything.
On a side note..is that a sign they are letting Ray Allen go?
Insanity has taken hold of the internet at this point.
Boston going after Reddick..however with only the MLE to offer, it would appear he’s Orlando’s to lose (restricted FA).
Bunch of teams meeting with Amare sometime tommorow, including Cleveland.
On a happy note, Orlando is meeting with him. This is where we no longer hate Rashard Lewis and instead love him. His monsterous contract is going to keep them bogged down from being able to do much of anything. Thank you Rashard.
Just for fun I’ll do it for a while though.
Appears as though Cavs have reached initial terms with Scott (fanhouse)
Also, possible double SnT in works that will bring Haywood to CLE and send Shaq to Dallas (BW).
If I didn’t have to work in the morning (Eastern time zone here) I’d be all for a covering it live. But since I’ll be in bed shortly, I wouldn’t do that to you.
Oh they were fake rumors, I know. But, the idea did seem somewhat feasible (if we are talking about the Jamison for Redd deal) and something I would be very much for.
Rich, I believe two of the rumors you mentioned came from fake reporter twitters. Not trying to burn you; I bought it too. It’s been an insane day.
Also, would anyone be interested in doing a Cover It Live here tonight? If I get five “yes” replies, I’ll set one up.
Well..it appears the Cavs are calling and talking to everyone under the sun.
I truly hope they don’t make a huge, huge mistake by making a trade just for a trade. For instance, I like Darren Collison, but Darren Collison is NOT worth taking on Okafor. It just isn’t. Horrible trade, and idc who we give up for it.
And Chris Bosh proves yet again what we all knew…people like money. I thought if Miami could do a SnT then they had a shot….but they don’t have the players to do that anymore. To ask one player to take a small pay-cut is one thing to hope for (even that isn’t easy for players in their prime). To ask THREE players to take pay-cuts just isn’t going to happen. I waso n the Miami trio bandwagon a couple of days ago, but realizing how much money these guys would lose (because of no SnT possibility) has changed my mind.… Read more »
The other dream is keeping the team as is and taking on no more long term salary. In two years, Jamison’s contract expires and we have a ton of cap space so long as we don’t screw it up. LeBron’s best bud, Chris Paul, becomes a FA. I honestly believe if the Cavs have the space, Paul will come here if LeBron is here. Keep the team as is…it’s competitive, it will make the playoffs, it will entertain…and then in 2012 go get that 2nd superstar. It isn’t going to happen if we keep taking on bad contracts and hope… Read more »
My dream is this: LBJ finally oks building for the future (near future mind you) instead of trying to make patchy trades here and there and hope it works. In my scenario, here is what happens, the 3 way deal that we saw ealier today that ultimately involves the cavs moving Jamison and getting Redd in return happens. Sounds terrible on the face of it. But, this is Redds final year and he has an EIGHTEEN MILLION DOLLAR final year. Think about the possibilites that brings at the trade deadline. Even if u don’t make a trade, think about the… Read more »
Sigh, I get so very sad when I type these long posts and they don’t send.
Re: The Bosh sign + trade: I’m sure the Cavs have tried it. I’m sure they’ve shopped everything that isn’t nailed down. This is one of those times where Chris Grant and Co. aren’t going to be doing things much differently than we would: they’re on the trade machine, they’re on the phone, and there’s nothing they won’t try. They know they need to shake things up, and soon. My guess is that they have calls out about Bosh, Paul, and any other big names who might possibly be available, and offering everything they have for ’em. I’m not getting… Read more »
LeBron is not coming back to Cleveland. There is no chance he comes back, Basketball wise it is the dumbest decision he could make. I f LeBron want’s titles he goes somewhere else. If he want’s to be a lovable loser in his hometown he stays.
I’m a huge Bron fan, but if he stays in Cleveland without the Cavs making significant improvements I will lose alot of respect for him.
Please leave Bron, even a team that nearly had the NBA’s worst record ever has a better future than the Cavs.
John… you hear anything more on Gilbert flying out to meet Amare tonight? There is supposedly a frame-work set up for a S&T with Phoenix.
Windy seemed to be saying (in today’s podcast) that we could pull off a S&T for a maxed-up Bosh. Though I might be mistaken…
After resigning Lebron, is it possible for Cleveland to push for a sign and trade for another worthy FA? I think the Cavs only need a worthy second scoring option behind James and they have a chance to reach the finals. They don’t need a Bosh. They need a Johnson more. If Chris Paul is available, does the Cavs have enough to trade for him?
JK — any chance the Cavs can pull the Andy + JJ + cap space + picks deal Windy talked about today for Bosh?
