Cavs: the Podcast 0051 — Decision Eve?
2014-07-09With all the hyperbole, rumor, and silliness floating around, Tom and I went in into the broadcast booth to talk about LeBron and his options. Who’s whispering in his ear? Will he return to Cleveland? Have the opinions of random Northeast Ohioans who have tenuous affiliations with the King reached a critical mass? Will Pat Riley pull off another miracle? Who else could the Cavs add? What if our hopes are dashed? We may know the answers later today.
For now, listen to us while you’re glued to your Twitter feed. We can be heard on SoundCloud at https://soundcloud.com/ctb-5/0051-decision-eve-deja-vu-2014
I’m not 100% sure what you mean by putting manufacturing in all caps, but I’m not implying that he simply invents material. Either way, that’s pretty convoluted logic…maybe, just maybe, drafting Dion was a smart choice, because we drafted the player we thought was best available, maybe just like this year? Maybe we were going to offer the max the whole time to Kyrie. Its conspiracy theory-level logic that gives Windhorst’s bashing of the Cavs the credit for smart decisions we’ve recently made. My “manufacturing” point was that Windhorst’s reporting isn’t just altruistic relaying of objective facts. He contributes in… Read more »
well his interview certainly fired Kyrie up.
I don’t agree that the Cavs org’s name should be “mud”. That’s what he said it was around the league. Just because I don’t agree doesn’t mean it’s not true.
But what does “around the league” even mean? 2-3 execs that had a beef with Chris Grant? Did he poll all the execs? Who knows? Its the exact type of report that I’m talking about- it’s vague, it can’t be confirmed or refuted, contributes to the Cavs are buffoons narrative, and now it’s just hanging out there…
On the topic of Windy…I’m baffled that you guy don’t understand the distaste (though, people do take it too far). He’s been wrong about some of the biggest insider info that he claimed to have (LeBron staying, Kyrie wants out). On multiple occasions he’s put out this vague, often anonymous, negative crap about the Cavs (“Everyone” views the Cavs as a laughing stock, “if the Cavs ever dream of having LeBron, it’s not going to be with Kyrie there” in other words, the Cavs best piece in the rebuild isn’t good enough, etc.). He gets a free pass because he’s… Read more »
Yep 100% agree. As you say people take it too far but it is all so negative from him and he is almost always wrong
Simmons really winds me up too with very similar narratives that aren’t true. He calls out teams for tanking, we don’t tank, the lottery does it’s job by not immediately rewarding the tanking garbage that fans had to put up with in Philly, Boston, Orlando etc, he declares us undeserving because supposedly we’re a complete joke of a franchise? Why? Because we hired an inept coach last year? Because our 1st round pick got injured? Last year was the only one of the rebuild where I was unhappy with the team but one year makes us inept? Sacramento are inept.… Read more »
That was a lot of typing for something that was a minor point.:/
Should have started with: Good podcast!
Entirely different point- can we come up with a different name than “decision part 2” or anything with the word decision in it? Decision doesn’t carry the best connotations…maybe something like “LeBronageddon 2: Judgment day” (judgment day for the Heat, that is)…
I don’t understand the level of vitriol that people have against Windhorst at all. I’ve listened to virtually every radio appearance and read almost every article he’s written, and he’s about as unbiased as it gets. People saying that he labeled the Cavs as having “no chance” at LeBron are simply wrong. He’s been consistent in that he thought it was a long shot (when pressed he offered a 10-15% chance). The “Kyrie wanting out” drama that he espoused does seem overstated in hindsight, but people claiming he has a vendetta against the Cavs just seem uninformed. Very few writers… Read more »
OK so if you believe he’s not just reporting what he hears/knows but is actually MANUFACTURING the “pulse” I think we all owe him a thank you card. Since he started reporting the things you mention: Kyrie’s attitude, Cavs org having a bad rep, LeBron not wanting to play with Kyrie, etc the following things have happened: Cavs hired David Blatt – a universally respected coach Kyrie Irving agreed in principle to a max contract extension The Cavs made the smartest (if not the boldest) draft selection LeBron seems to be seriously considering coming back to play in Cleveland. If… Read more »
Great podcast as usual guys.
My self-protective state of denial is over. I’m all in!!! If he doesn’t return I don’t know what I’ll do…
