Live Thread: Cavs Vs. Knicks (or, The Homecoming Game)
2014-10-30In less than twenty minutes, the Cavs take the court for their first regular season game with LeBron James in uniform since 2010. It’s against the already struggling Knicks and will be a great opportunity for LeBron to start the season off right by giving Cleveland a decisive win. This is The King’s first step towards becoming the hometown hero he longs to be. Post your thoughts about the pre-game festivities, The Humongotron, The Chalk Toss, and, most importantly, LeBron’s homecoming game. This is the start of a magical season. GO CAVS!
Recap is up, btw.
This shows the Cavs will not come out of the chute and blast everyone. The early schedule is actually pretty tuff. Particularly since they have to play the Bulls tomorrow, who have had a warm up game and a day of rest, while the Cavs played the top 7 all night. Might be just as well; recall LeBron saying that a team needs a losing streak to learn how to get serious. As far as tonight’s game goes, it is an upset, but you can see why it happened: 1. NYK’s had a warm up game. They got trounced at… Read more »
Some things that struck me- – Lebron was overly passive. He looked exactly like he did during the preseason. He has no sense of urgency right now….he’s playing like because he’s surrounded by the most talent he’s ever had, he can just coast. I’m not overly concerned; he’ll get locked in eventually. – The first 9-10 minutes or so were fun to watch. They got Love in a flow, and we saw great player and ball movement. After that, things went down hill. – The worst looking unit- after the first quarter- was the full starting five. There were times… Read more »
Was at the game — so so much fun. Only dude in the place sporting a Delly jersey. He is the son I never had. Good things: – Love to LeBron full court lob was insane. – Kyrie to TT dunk to end the half. Beautiful. – In the first quarter, you got a taste of that “oh man, everyone on this team is a plus shooter” Not so good: – LBJ’s over active imagination passing to his fantasy team instead of his actual team right now. – Too many drives cut off by leaving wing open for 15 footer.… Read more »
You can buy a Delly jersey?!
Things I am not worried about: LBJ, the offense, Kyrie, KLove, surprisingly the defense
Things I am worried about: Marion, Miller, the rest of the bench, Blatt’s rotations
Combination of nerves, over-passing, sloppiness with the ball, pissed off Knicks team who hit an inordinate amount of long twos and contested threes with the clock winding down.
Things will only get better, but I hope the bench improves or there will be an overhaul needed there.
The spin is going to be that the Cavs got caught up in the moment. What it looked like is that they wanted to run the Princeton offense in terms of ball movement but were never sure where everyone else was going to be on the floor. LBJ was trying to dish and move the ball, but had no idea where his teammates were because he’s never played with them before (except Andy, who he hit a couple times). Then they turned into dribble-drivers and spot-up shooters and didn’t do either well enough to win. When they figure out the… Read more »
honestly fire lebron, guy hasn’t been good for like 9 years.
This is probably the worst game they’ll play all year. I’m not taking anything away from this game. They were obviously nervous and trying to all be unselfish.
No problems here. 80 wins is still in reach!!
In fact, 81 wins is still in reach!
Cavs didn’t play the best; however, I’m actually confident that the defense will be there in the next month or so. They can trap in the corner and contained pick and rolls for the most part. They allowed a ton of mid range shots and the Knicks made them. A few stops on Jason Smith and this game is completely different. Offensively, LeBron needs to post up and shoot. Kyrie can create and his hands are better. Confusing game as far as takeaways go, I thought not turning it over might be a Cavs strength (although preseason said differently). I… Read more »
Is Cols on suicide watch now? There goes our chance at 82-0.
Good three by delly. Then a bad fouls by him. He’s looked much better this half.
Some utter garbage officiating these past 60 seconds
These uniforms are ugly. Nice play by irving. For as bad as they’ve looked they are right in this.
Yep. Really ugly.
Cavs look flat as hell.
Telling you guys, going to take until after Christmas before this team really gels.
That layup didn’t flat at all, TOM.
Think the flatness is more a result of everyone trying to not “let the moment get to them” and relax.
Turns out it’s hard to win a professional basketball match with a roster of relaxed players.
Liking how Kyrie has played the second half though. He looks the most prepared to take this game by the scruff of the neck and force his will. Let’s see what happens…
Best Austin Carr Voice: “Now look, they’ve got to stop losing the ball. If they can just score four points every thirty seconds for the next two minutes, they can be up twelve points in time.” I wish I had the FSO feed.
I’m blaming Cols for this game.
I told my wife there was an ambitious and outspoken poster here. She claims that will mean cavs start season slowly. No offense cols. she was born and raised in Cleveland. It’s in the blood. Cols has to be positive otherwise there might be repercussions. Seriously though I would like to see a game live with cols.
That would be fun. Do you live in colorado? I’ll be at the game next Friday.
No. I wish. I live in Columbus. Colorado has 3cities I love. Boulder. Denver and Estes park. Where are you? West of continental divide?
I feel myself getting irrationally mad about this game right now. The Knicks are winning in the most Knicks way possible.
Why? It’s understandable. They are obviously nervous and the Knicks already had one game to work out the nerves.
Marion may be done. He looked terrible when he was on the floor. His man blew by him and he misses gimme shots.
Andy too. He looks bad.
Andy’s looked alright
Cavs are passing too much.
So much for Bron not playing 40 minutes
Overall so far. Love waiters and irving look good. Leb looks a bit off.
That was offensive basket interference by Acy. Awful call
Finally some PnR
Thompson still looks awful
Nobody seems to mention his hand switch in the context of he couldn’t shoot anyway. If you have the skills you don’t switch.
Dion looks great
Bron really looking like he doesn’t want to shoot for whatever reason. He even looked surprised to hit that three earlier. Needs to be much more aggressive (as does Kyrie) to close out game. Also seems like they’ve gotten away from getting ball to Love in second half.
Time for Blatt to earn his money. Not impressed so far.
DELLY WITH THE COOL NERVES.
Beautiful play to end third.
Yes it was. Great pass.
I wonder if Pablo prigioni will get the flop warning on the dion outback earlier in the minute
What is wrong with Miller’s hair?
Some hipster hairstyle I bet
Also Jason Smith is rocking some crazy bed hair. He looks nuts.
Delly is doing fine Cols. He hustles harder than a telemarketer. The knicks are just making really bad shots. Maybe the Cavs need to give them the three and protect the mid range area. Jason Smith is so aggravating. He looks like a opportunistic LMA tonight.
Smith is burning delly all over the place.
Waiters looking good. Then delly gets burned by smith.
Realistically he should be there to push the ball and play defense. Whatever lineup he is in he won’t need to shoot. Same for TT. You don’t seem to have the problem with TT you have with delly. Personally I think this is good for the cavs to have to work both end of court.
Need to get delly out of there. He can’t do anything on offense.
Except set up LeBron for wide open threes.
Delly bringing much needed energy.
I would love to see Nate and Cols as an announcing duo. People would be so confused.
Cavs will be fine. Nerves and emotions a big part of first half. Love looks awesome on both ends. LBJ will start hitting in the second half and Kyrie and Dion will hit some big third quarter shots. Defense has actually looked pretty good so far. Only counted one uncontested 3 and guards seem to be hustling. Would like to see more TT in second half.
Go Cavs!
I thought the offense was good until they had to substitute. Kind of bogged down when delly was in there.
That was a pretty fun half of basketball. Lebron was nervous, but he was 1-9 and the cavs are still up. What an awesome team.
Ok. Bad half. Crowd sucked. LBJ nervous as hell. No offensive continuity. Need someone to come in and hit some shots: a Delly/Dion lineup.
Dion is lookin great. No dumb shots at all. Half wasn’t all bad, Cavs hung in when offense sputtered. Knicks are also killing the midrange shot. That’s lucky, not good points.
That corner trap is perfect. Love the shot clock violation.
Cavs need more Delly
Man Love is going crazy..this year gunna be nuts
I love that Charles Barkley agrees with me that it is an easy adjustment to make for the players on this cavs team because they are great players. Obviously I agree. I also like how he said people who don’t know basketball think it’ll be hard. Hahaha.
Yeah. I mean there’s obviously a difference between playing well together immediately because they are all great players and becoming a great team who know instinctively how each other move, when they cut, where they like their shots from etc. Never any doubt we’d come out as a plus offensive side. I can’t wait to see what it looks like in March-April!!!
Thoughts 6 minutes in: – Loved the pre-game stuff. The perfect balance between acknowledging the enormity of the moment and not being too showy / over the top (“not one! not two! not three!) – The pause in the line up before announcing James was amazing and hearing the whole St Vincent, Akron stuff was beautiful. – This is the first Cavs game I can remember where every one of our starting players could go off and score 20-30 in a game (No more Alonzo Gee!!!) – He can say whatever he wants – James is nervous, and rightfully so.… Read more »
Goodness. I gr chills watching the intros. This team already looks fantastic.
An and-1 is a great way for LeBron to score his first basket of the regular season!
Let’s go Cavs!
