Live Thread: Cavs vs. Sixers
2015-03-29In true March Madness tradition… the Cavaliers will go for their own “Sweet 16” as they try to win their 16th straight home game today against Sam’s Club the 76ers.
The lottery-bound Sixers were blown out Friday 119-98 by the Clippers, although they have two more shots before the end of March to tie their season best of six wins in a month. Philadelphia has only three wins over teams with winning records, but one of them was against a depleted Cavs team on the eve of the trade that sent Dion Waiters packing.
While it might be a boring end of season Sunday game to most, Brett Brown looks forward to the challenge, “I think it’s a great lesson, a great experience to play against a real team that is a few weeks away from going into the playoffs,” Brown said. “I think it’s a fantastic, real-time lesson, a real-time example of this is what we aspire to get to.” Probably not a coincidence that coach Brown used the word “real” repeatedly in his quotes… since his team seems stuck in the Pinocchio-phase.
Nerlens Noel (who leads all rookies with 16 double-doubles… and also in hair height) had a career-high 30 points and 14 boards against the Clippers. Such performances no doubt put him squarely in Uncle Sam’s cross-hairs as the next worm on the hook to catch a few more lottery picks.
The Cavs themselves, on the heels of a tough to watch loss to the Brooklyn Nets, must find a way to stave off boredom and complacency that can settle in while waiting around for the playoffs to start. Maybe by imagining themselves trying on a flat top for size…
Maybe people already commented on this but I couldn’t help note the media hypocrisy. Kevin Love, March 23 on Lebron James: “You know, we’re not best friends, we’re not hanging out every day, but we see each other every day, whether we’re at the practice facility, whether we’re on the road or going to a game,” Love said. “I think our relationship is also evolving. I could say the same with each and every coach, coach Blatt, and each and every player on the team. But, that’s part of the NBA.” Dwight Howard, March 26 on James Harden: “”You don’t… Read more »
You caught that too? DIfference is Love can leave and Howard is locked in for a bit. The incentive to hijack the narrative that serves them the extra clicks on the internet.
Agreed . . . although Howard has an opt-out after 2016 so it’s not like he couldn’t start another Dwightmare this offseason, I think it is more than nobody cares about Dwight anymore. I actually wouldn’t be surprised if Morey flipped Dwight to some perennial sucker like the Knicks this offseason.
I’d say Milwaukee, they have been terrible since trading away Brandon Knight and can’t possibly score enough baskets to keep up with the Cavs. But frankly, none of the teams in the East other than the Hawks and possibly (if everyone is healthy, he said with no conviction) the Bulls should pose any challenge for the Cavs. I’d actually welcome seeing them play with Heat because even though they theoretically will give the Cavs a tougher matchup than the Hornets, Nets, Celtics, Bucks et al, that would be a more fun series to watch for that reason. I’d rather see… Read more »
did lLOVE’S BOBBLEHEAD come with a squeak / crack in his back—-what are the opinions of the CTB NATION ( WHOSE OPINION I TRUST MORE TRHAN ANYONE ) —WHO DO WE WANT THE CAVS TO PLAY IN THE 1ST ROUND —-APPRECIATE THE FEEDBACK
@JasonLloyd
David Blatt said Kevin Love took an elbow to the back, Shumpert jammed his ankle going up for dunk. Neither sounds overly serious
Kyrie and LBJ with 38 minutes, KLove with 31 and a tweaked back… id have rather rested our starters and lost than play everyone on hard minutes while they were terrible and only beat the sixers by 1…
not only did love / shump get hurt BUT THERE PRIDE SHOULD HAVE TAKEN A MAJOR HURT —-not the way you want to play with the playoffs on the horizon —–don’t want to be overly harsh after their record the last 3months but the last 2 games have given me reaon(s) to be concerned
Nobody scored for the last 3;57 of this game… that’s unbelievable…
Even in high school you won’t see that. Middle school, maybe…
Can I say the Cavs won this one with defense?
That was the ugliest, weirdest and less deserved win of the year. Hope they bring more effort against the Heat next game.
Only hope that both Shump and KLove are okay… At least they have three days off to recover
That was the weirdest game all year
Definitely the UGLIEST win of the year… Cavs lucky they were playing the second worst team in the conference…
Furkan Aldemir! This is hard to watch!
Face palm………………….
TT with the great defense!
You just knew that Noel was going to miss that shot…
Cavs deserve to lose period.
Both teams under 30% shooting in the fourth quarter.
Another iso hero ball play with a terrible shot by Kyrie. He and LeBron make me want to PUKE in this 4th quarter. I wish the other guys on the team would get on their azzes for playing selfish basketball. It’s just PATHETIC.
AC: You’ve got to believe in the pass!
