Fantasy Notebook: The Finals
2015-04-07For fans of the real-life NBA, the playoffs are still about a week and a half off. But for fans of Cavs: The Fantasy League, that one shining moment has come. We’ve reached the end point of the inaugural Cavs: The Fantasy League and we’ve got one mammoth of a Finals underway as two very worthy competitors look to get their taste of that gold ring (or… you know, the fantasy equivalent which is imagining what a gold ring might taste like).
Nate Smith’s Team Stark Delly Treys moved into the Finals with a sound spanking of the third seeded Team Grover 13.
Team Stark Delly Treys has its fair share of star power, boasting the likes of MVP-contender James Harden and Portland’s LaMarcus Aldridge, but also mixed in some new blood like Orlando’s rookie guard Elfrid Payton, the Thunder’s Steven Adams and Milwaukee’s Khris Middleton, all of who are having strong seasons both in reality as key contributors to Smith’s squad.
Meanwhile, Evil Genius’ appropriately named Team Evil Genius finished off yours truly and his Team Waiters Invaders.
EG surged to CtFL’s best record and carried that momentum into the playoffs. With a backcourt featuring the Cavs’ Kyrie Irving and the Raptors’ DeMar DeRozan and a frontline sporting names like Gasol (of the Pau variety) and Drummond, it’s easy to see why.
Congratulations to Nate and EG — and to all the truly fine competitors who made CtFL so much fun this year. May the best team win!
In keeping with my theme of posting professional wrestling videos in these notebooks, this one seems about as fitting for the Stark Delly Treys/Evil Genius matchup as any. This week will be the test of which one of these fine young men is the Hulkster and which one is the Giant.
It’s a classic. Enjoy, folks.
Finally, in the consolation round, my Team Waiters Invaders goes up against Grover 13.
Let me change directions with a question. Undoubtedly the biggest topic in the history of CtB is LeBron returning. We all had a lot of fun debating the potential. As I recall, the first inkling that this might happen came in the fall of 2013. I recall listening to a radio show about the Browns, and the topic turned to a rumor that LeBron was thinking of returning. Most of the people on the show said something like “fat chance”, but one person said he was pretty sure it would happen. I think that person was Andre Knott. Does anyone… Read more »
Knott went to Barberton I think. Couple years older but still… I heard rumors before 2013.
Thanks Robert! And thanks for putting the C:tFL together this year!
I’m recommenting this so my opinions are available and not lost. I know you guys need my opinions. Watched the NCAA title game 1. College basketball sucks. The drama is real and the games are close, but man is it a slog to watch a game. Too many time outs, weird foul calls and the forever shot clock make it tough to watch 2. Wisconsin got hosed. They looked like they were going to run away with it, Duke couldn’t score but got bailed out for about 5 minutes with a foul call every possession 3. Wisonsin should’ve just given… Read more »
Definitely calls didn’t break for Wisconsin, especially the blocking call on what seemed like a charge or no-call.
Coach K is super tough and the Duke kids hit some big 3s in the last few minutes. Kentucky didn’t have anyone ready to step up, Duke had 3-4 guys who did.
College game definitely in a funk for watching, now. Kaminsky was the only player with some actual moves.
Agree with both of you. Refs really favored Duke to obviousness. Their PG was way better in the end, Wisconsin’s PG forgot about Deckerd and feared going into the paint. Kaminsky played heavy mins toward the end.
