Shump-tastic News

According to Cavs’ beat reporter, Chris Haynes, Iman Shumpert has been cleared to play and the Cavs will activate him for tonight’s game in Orlando against the Magic. It still remains to be seen if Shump will actually see the court, something that will depend on how he does in the morning shootaround and pre-game warmups.

Shump has been missing, and sorely missed, from the Cavs’ rotation this early season, after injuring his wrist during a dunk in a preseason practice session. The 6’5 guard, who was a key to the team’s late season defensive scheme, and ultimately took over the starting SG spot in the playoffs, averaged eight points on 41% shooting (34% from three) last year, with nearly four boards and 1.3 steals per game. His presence was mostly felt on the defensive end, although he was focusing on his three point shooting in the off-season before his injury set him back.

Meanwhile, in other Cavs’ backcourt news, Kyrie Irving has not yet been activated, although David Blatt has indicated that he still could be on this road trip. J.R. Smith also was unable to join the team on the trip to Orlando due to illness, so the Cavs will hope that Iman is ready.
