The Champ Is Here… For One More Year

The Champ Is Here… For One More Year

That’s right… one more year with the possibility of typing the words “James FREAKING Jones!” into the Live Threads — even if it’s only primarily in garbage time…

As reported by Shams Charania of The Vertical, 14 year veteran James Jones has re-signed with the Cavs for the 2016-17 season for a cool $1.5M vet minimum.

JFJ, who is incidentally tied with teammate LeBron James with the most amount of NBA Championship rings on the squad at three (not to mention his six straight trips to the NBA Finals), rejoins the Cavs as the resident sage and mentor to the team’s younger players.

The Champ played in 48 games last season, averaging 3.7 points and shooting 40 percent. He also knocked down 41 of the 104 threes he took for a 39.4% clip. Chances are he won’t see nearly that much playing time this season, but his impact and leadership will likely be worth much more than his relatively modest salary.

If The Champ can help the Cavs repeat as Champs, he (and LBJ) will join the likes of Shaq, Manu, Tony Parker, John Salley, Kurt Rambis, Will Perdue and The Chief in the four rings club…

Welcome back, JFJ!
