Live Thread: Cavs vs. Hawks (#DunkTheVote)
2016-11-08It’s Election Day Cavs fans! And, despite the funny (but sadly true) commentary from Key & Peele (circa 2012), it’s still an important day in our country’s history. Hopefully, you got out and dunked the vote already, so now you’ve got time for the second most important event happening tonight as Cleveland stumps for a victory in their home swing state against the Hawks to keep their winning streak alive.
LeBron and his delegation have run a pretty stellar campaign thus far in this young season, winning their first six straight in their bid to repeat for a second term as champs. The Hawks, meanwhile, have assembled some new faces to run against the team that knocked them out of the race by a landslide in each of the last two seasons. Gone are incumbents Jeff Teague and Al Horford, and in their stead… new candidate Denis “The Umlaut” Schröder and hometown favorite Dwight Howard. D12 has had a popular return thus far, averaging 17 points and 12.3 rebounds per game, while running mate Paul Millsap has been steady in leading the team in scoring (17.8 ppg).
While LBJ (The King, not the former President), has made it well known who he’s endorsing politically off the court… on it, he’s still the biggest supporter of his future MVP teammate, Kyrie Irving. Uncle Drew had a tough stop on his trip to the City of Brotherly Love, he’ll look to rally and turn things around tonight. Speaking of tough Love, Kevin has been pretty effective and resilient early on this season, taking shots and dishing out double doubles.
Probable Hawks lineup: Paul Millsap PF, Kent Bazemore SF, Dwight Howard C, Denis Schröder PG, Thabo Sefalosha SG.
Probable Cavs lineup: Kevin Love PF, LeBron James SF, Tristan Thompson C, Kyrie Irving PG, JR Smith SG.
Catch all the action (in between election results) on NBATV (but make sure you vote first!)
Prediction: Once again, Cavs get to the polls early with the popular vote, then withstand a late rally by the Hawks to gain enough electoral votes to claim victory in a closer race than expected… 116-112.
GO CAVS! GO DUNK THE VOTE!
Nate, as usual looking like a boss for getting out of the stock market pending the election. It’s going to be grim at the White House ceremony unfortunately. On the bright side, we’re still the champs!
Hawks D much improved in the paint. We’ll see how DHoward holds up over the season.
Sucks but I for one don’t want them trying what GSW did last year.
Such An annoying loss. Lebron decided not show up at all in the first half. Did he think everyone else wanted his spotlight?
Eh. We weren’t going to win them all. I am not annoyed. They are still in the Finals.
Bron yelling at Channing for laying off Bazemore afterwards…
Wow… Cavs just don’t cover Bazemore and he sticks it…
KLOVE AND ONE!! GREAT inbounds pass!
Kyrie and LBJ with BACK TO BACK THREES!
Hawks backcourt killing the Cavs tonight… Schroder and Bazemore with back to back threes to give them a combined 51 points on the night so far…

Never seen a team so committed to the YOLO three. Why not?
Cavs! Knock down the open shots or drive to get fouled!
Many missed threes…
Shoulda been a goaltend…

Kyrie starting to turn on the MFQ mode…
Cavs not staying in front of guys like Millsap and Delaney…
Shoot. We really shouldn’t lose to this team. They are like a 5 seed if things go really well for them
We won’t lose to them when it matters. Win or lose we are in the Finals.
Srsly Cavs…are we trying to put them in the damn bonus in the first 2 mins?!
Love is playing with the most edge of anyone on the team in the early going. Even when the shot is not going down he makes things happen.
Cavs still not shooting well, but got to the line 11 times that quarter… and made them all
