Live Thread: Cavs vs. Bucks (#HelpWanted)
2016-12-21The Cavs were already looking to hire some seasonal help to fill out their bench, and that was before the news that J.R. Smith would need surgery to repair his broken right thumb suffered in the first night of a back to back with the Milwaukee Bucks. Now, David Griffin’s Christmas shopping list may just have gotten a bit longer, as it’s likely J.R. will be out until around the All Star break. He’ll be on the lookout for a backup big to replace the injured Chris “Birdman” Andersen, a potential backup PG, and maybe at least a temporary replacement on the wing to put under the wine & gold tree. It’s a lot to ask… turning the lumps of coal that currently reside on the end of the Cavs’ payroll into some diamonds in the rough. It might take a bit more than just some Christmas magic.
He might just have to take out a classified ad…
Without J.R., and minus the services of Kevin Love (knee contusion), the Cavs had their hands full with the young Bucks last night. It took some extended efforts from LeBron, Kyrie, Richard Jefferson, Iman Shumpert and some additional help from Channing Frye and DeAndre Liggins. And, they get to do it all over again tonight with a double dose of Milwaukee’s finest. The Bucks’ slogan is “Fear The Deer” but they might want to change that to “Reindeer” the way they tend to fly up and down the court against the wine & gold, especially with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jabari Parker doing their best Dasher and Dancer impressions. They’ve even got a Rudy now to guide their way in Delly.
Speaking of Delly, he gets his Christmas present early this year, as the Cavs will honor him prior to the game (just like Mozzy on the weekend) by awarding him with his well deserved Championship ring.
“It’s going to be pretty special,” Dellavedova told cleveland.com. “It’s my Christmas present, so, I’m really looking forward to it. My family’s going to be in town and it’s going to be fun.”
It might be a case of Silent Night/Weary Night for the Cavs after they had to work overtime to beat the Bucks just a few hours ago, but Coach Ty Lue claims that everyone is available (at least those Cavs who are healthy). Kevin Love will miss his second game, although he should be good to go against the Nets on Friday night. As Lue says, it’s a next man up mentality…
"Next man up. We gotta be ready to play." – Coach Lue on Liggins getting the start tonight in #CavsBucks#DefendTheLand https://t.co/znHBn5cGhA
— Cleveland Cavaliers (@cavs) December 21, 2016
DeAndre Liggins will get the start in place of J.R. at shooting guard, and RJ will get a second straight start in Love’s stead. LeBron, Kyrie and Tristan will start as usual. For the Bucks, both Michael Beasley (foot) and Khris Middleton (hamstring) remain on the injury list.
The action tips off at 7pm EST on Fox Sports Ohio.
Prediction: The Cavs find enough left in their stockings to stuff the Bucks 103-99.
Just got home late from the game. IT WAS AWESOME! Delly had a wonderful homecoming. They had some highlights playing before they introduced him and a song playing, “you got a friend” The entire Q gave him a standing ovation and cheered wildly. Griff not Lue (curious) gave him his ring. He was mobbed by Cavs player and about 30 seconds later JR with cast on right hand came running to Delly and gave him a big hug! It was All Business once the 1st quarter started. Both teams were fatigued and missing shots. But experience at being NBA Champs… Read more »
Not sure if it’s been mentioned yet but there’s a great story about Ty Lue by Kurt Streeter: http://www.espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/18318471/the-unique-dynamic-lebron-james-cavs-coach-tyronn-lue
Delly has a shoe that says “Delly” on it!!!!

I like the color scheme. If they are $50 or $60, I will buy a pair.
NICE!!
JUST WATCHED THE ” HIGHLIGHT ” OF R.J. GETTING TOSSED —LOVE THAT GUY / HAVE MORE RESPECT FOR HIM THAN EVER ——-WE DON’T TAKE NO SH-T !!!
Always loved his game ever since he was at Arizona. Class act and consummate professional. Ironically, he wasn’t even the best player on to come out of that team. Too bad Arenas had so many problems. A bit of reminiscence, but I remember watching that team face Duke in the 2001 NCAA championship and thinking holy cow, this team has three potential first rounders facing Duke that also has four potential first rounders. Crazy. Boozer, Jay Williams, Arenas, Dunleavy, Shane Battier, Luke Walton and Jefferson came out of that game. Jason Gardener was a hell of a college player too.… Read more »
I didn’t know Boozer’s first name was Crazy. I thought it was Loozer.
TY DID SAY IN HIS POST GAME INTERVIEW —GRIFF IS LOOKING AND HE WILL GET THE JOB DONE ( FIND US A PLAYER )—I HAVE THAT SAME CONFIDENCE IN GRIFF
OH WELL ANOTHER NIGHT / ANOTHER PARTY / ANOTHER NO SHOW WATCHING THE CAVS —-OH WELL ‘TIS THE SEASON ‘—WAS PLEASANTLY SURPRISED WITH THE WIN—BELIEVE WHEN THIS TEAM IS CHALLENGED ( AND I THINK THEY ” FELT ” THAT CHALLENGE WITH THIS BUCKS TEAM) _–THEY REALLY LOCK IN / GET FOCUSED AND GO OUT AND GET THE JOB DONE —NICE WIN –GO CAVS !!
With Love healthy, we have a fairly solid 9: James, Ky, Love, TT; Shump, Frye, Liggins, Dunleavy.
Only two creators. Though Love can playmake some. If McRae gives us semi-good minutes, were OK.
Thing is, we can’t afford another hit. Certainly to a PF/C type.
That nine looks a little short.
Reporter: “Ty would you consider resting Kyrie or LeBron on Friday?”
Ty Lue: “No.”

Not much time left for Vine… might as well use it for what it’s best at…

Wow. He is amazing.
Anybody afraid of the Bucks after this mini-sweep?
This year, no. Give them Middleton & 1 more year + a PG? Yes.
Eh… that’s a lot of things that have to happen… no guarantee Middleton is the same player when he’s back… he tore his hamstring in half…

If you were told that the Cavs would hit 15 threes in a game, but that JR and KLove were out and Kyrie only took two… would you believe it?
Yes. Start of the year, no. Frye + Shump are shooting well. James 3PT% is way up. RJ & Mike D can make them. Liggs & McRae chipped in. We can hit 20 a night w/out a sweat. Agree with Lue.
Obviously LBJ is locked in right now from 3, but overall his balance has looked way better this year on his j. I don’t want to jinx it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this season ended up being his second or third best season in terms of percentage. I could see him shooting around 37% percent this year.
Meanwhile, Delly probably lost his starting Jin.
Crazy as it sounds… Cols asked for one last encore…

Even the minutes police will be happy with this one…
Great game from Kyrie. Career high 13 dimes. 11-17 FGs. 6 off the glass. Got his & got others theirs. With Love & JR out, huge.
Great game from James (expected). TT & Shump & Frye did what they do. Got some nice time from McRae & Mike D. That was encouraging.
I guess the Bucks got the “beefy” Plumlee brother…
You get a Plumlee and you get a Plumlee…
Golly, McRae even bricking free throws now. I actually do not think he is this bad. He could give a bad team some scoring off the bench. Just not this team.
He was fine today. 3-6 FGs for 8 pts.
He is a rhythm guy though and those guys need minutes to be productive. He won’t get those minutes on this team.
What about that gawd awful turnover.
As I said, a bad team.
Wtf, Faygo.
Well, unlike last night… the Cavs played some great D and kept scoring in the fourth…
Take a seat, Kyrie. You earned it!
In a way… one of his finest regular season games as a Cav…
but he put 50+ on the Spurs with LeBron out…
But he just scored 31 on 17 shots with 13 assists… Like I said, in a way…
Bet you his efficiency rating was off the charts this game.
And only one three… Most I’ve seen him attack the rim in a regular season game I think…

RJ just got himself tossed… but it’s the most fun ejection I’ve seen in a while…
https://twitter.com/mcten/status/811756249603866625
Not sure why they gave him two techs
Cause he screamed at the ref for giving him the first one…
Shumpert’s new do…
https://twitter.com/NBA/status/811755081506766848
RJ’s got some fight in him… I love it
Looks like that’s a night for LBJ…
SHUMP-TASTIC!

Delly was banished. Maybe we can trade for him next summer.
Do they ever even run pick-and-roll with Delly? Maybe Kidd doesn’t know about the Loaded Wombat. Would expect Delly to be throwing lobs to the Bucks’ long tall leapers all night.
He did that in the Bucks’ win three weeks ago… Cavs were out to stop it these two games…
Cavs now with 29 assists…
THAT’S 13!!
Kyrie finally asked the soul of the game for court vision
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bT4tAltJ6oc
He has always had it. I am more convinced of that than ever based on several different games this season. It was just dormant.
Kyrie’s got 12 assists now…
Kyrie back in to restore order…
McRae looks turrible. Just turrible.
