Podcap: Cleveland 91, Jazz 83 (or, This isn’t even my final form)
2017-03-17Today Mitch Suchan and Elijah Kim discuss flashes of swish, locked in Lebron, how to use Shump, playoff strategy and more. Last night’s game marked Kevin Love’s return, in which he scored 10 points and grabbed nine boards in 19 minutes. The surprisingly potent Gobert Jazz team refused to be ignored. Cleveland had a 36-22 lead early in the second quarter, but in regular fashion, started to let off the gas when comfortable. The second half started with the Cavs up by two. A game that was looking to have meltdown potential was salvaged by Lebron starting his transformation to playoff mode. James was 13 of 20 from the field and had 10 rebounds with six assists. He also moved into 13th place all time in field goals in the fourth quarter, passing Tim Duncan.

Anyone have some irish coffee?
Actually to celebrate I’m trying to find Druids to teach about Jesus. No luck so far
Haha. My way is much more fun.
I like that his name wasn’t actually Patrick.
Anyone drinking green beer?

Over the last 15 games the Cavs have an offensive efficiency rating of 114.3. While not being healthy. That’s amazing.
Yes. I am more excited that they have put together two straight good defensive games. That may mean they are finally trying to lock in for their title defense. Now if they can just stay healthy, maybe they can build some chemistry with the whole team in time to be at peak form by the first round. Rather them be at peak prior to the playoffs so they roll thru the east to get as much rest as possible for the finals.
The defense is there whenever they want it.
Hopefully. I think it has to do with LBJ. If he is focused, it seems the rest of the team focuses in. I kind of wish our defensive minded players would lock in on their own instead of relying so much on LBJ.
Why though? They should take cues from the dude who leads his team to the Finals every year. Whatever LeBron is doing he’s doing it correctly.
If they focus more it means he doesn’t have to. None of those guys have played anywhere near as minutes throughout their career or even the last three seasons as James. They should pick up the slack.
Good podcast
Anyone drinking irish car bombs?
Irish car bomb jello shots…

I’m in favor of the NBA getting rid of the corner three.
Im in favor of getting rid of the 3 period.
I’d be okay with that…it’s gotten so lopsided, and it’s only going to get worse…
Sweet PodCap guys! (that one was for you, Mitch)… Seriously though, enjoyed the game recap and the analysis on both the Cavs and the Jazz… Shump is a bit of an enigma consistency wise, but agree that his defense is usually dictated by how well his offense is going. Also, in watching the game on DVR (I missed it live) it looked like he hurt the shoulder on the play following the missed epic dunk when Rudy went over him for a rebound FWIW…
Thank you EG you make me feel like JLIN makes Parsons feel
Shumpert still shooting 38% from three on nearly 4 attempts per game. Yet everytime he misses a shot the comments section goes ballistic. The season is almost over and he’s been great from three. I think we should cut the guy some slack.
Shooting 30% since all star. People trash him because his shot is very inconsitent.
So cherry picking the data is the reason? People trashed him even before the all-star break. Full season stats matter.
Hey I defended him in the pod. His shooting form is mind of incositent though, that is just who he is.
YOU WANNA CUT SHUMPERT. YOU MONSTER
Rotten shooting slump ran through February. 11 games at 28% from the field.

Weren’t you the one who ragged on Delly last year when his post Christmas shooting went way down? Stop telling everyone else what to think.
Delly losing his job to a rookie 2nd round pick tell me I was right all along about him.
He could be in the running for MVP right now, and you’d still be claiming you were right all along.
Nope.
He got his job back…
Anyway, way to ignore my argument.
He’s played like garbage for two straight seasons. Hitting wide open three is nice but when everything else he does is a negative on the court, people stop wanting him to be on the court. He makes terrible decisions on both sides constantly. It’s frequently a barrage of what the heck did he just do on D, directly followed by a turnover, getting burned on D again and then bricking a dumb shot early in the shot clock. He plays with Lebron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love. Play smart D, hit the open shot, get the f out of… Read more »
He’s not THAT bad. He’s just a bench player forced into a starter’s role right now. He wouldn’t look nearly so out of place on a non-elite team.
Yep. He’ll be fine once he’s back in his role.
Liggins is also shooting 38% and has played way way better d this season. Shumpert has been a hot mess on d for awhile now. Also, Liggins handles are about equivalent to shumpert but he usually tries to do less. Is he as good of an offensive player? Probably not, but he isn’t all that much worse and doesn’t try to do as much. Shumpert is fine for what he is until he loses focus on d (frequently) and tries to do too much on offense (occasionally). Let’s not pretend he has been amazing this season. He has been ok.… Read more »
Liggins shoots less than one three pointer per game, is somehow worse at dribbling and passing than Shumpert and teams completely ignore him on offense. And he’s older. This is not an equal comparison.
Talking bout right now not the future. He also doesn’t try to do as much. I would rather shumpert sit in the corner or cut most of the time than actually try to dribble or make interior passes. Liggins has looked better on d in his limited minutes. My point is shumpert hasn’t been anything special and will continue to be mediocre as a three and d guy until he focuses more consistently on d and actually is able to lock down some guys.
Channing didn’t shoot all that well but he was key in getting Gobert out of the paint. I expect he will get back to being automatic from three once he gets back into his normal playing time. The Love absence screwed him up I think.
Nice to know that Kyrie and Shumpert’s injuries aren’t that serious.
Kyrie just needed a spa day apparently lol
“I just need to visit my masseuse” – Kyrie Irving, really!
I love this. Irving made sure LeBron had this game before he sat out…”I went to Bron and said, ‘You got this?’ ” Irving shared. “He said, ‘Yeah.’ ”
Love this team.
It’s great. LeBron clearly defers when he wants to and takes over when he has to. The guy is a once in a generation phenom. Imagine having that much power in your profession to command everything and everyone through sheer force of will.
I know. And he plays for our favorite team. It’s the best time to be a Cavs fan.
Agree with Cols!
Refs seem to to reward Love ( on foul calls) for his fight in the paint probably the best on this team. There are certain players you just know are going to get the calls & get foul shots. Love is def one of those players. It is big advantage for us. Yes alot of “WTH?” on Frye’s play. I was going crazy that JR was forgotten and passes were going to Frye and RJ. Finally, with JR’s hustle , he was remembered and “oh yeah that guy” It was awesome to see him get in rhythm. Who doesn’t love… Read more »
Yeah – Love has never been confused for J.R. Smith on pulling the trigger. He does a lot of pump faking if he’s not feeling it.
Love has a lonnnngg draw before his shot, and doesn’t like anyone closing out on him. Wish he would let it go sooner. On that topic, I can’t think of two players in the league more on opposite ends of the release time spectrum than Love & Korver.
