Mark took me off ice for an hour+ conversation about the recent Kyrie Irving Trade demand that set the sports world (and ESPN Trade Machine) aflame.
Any takers?
http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ydy7l4c5
Yes.
Why would Philly do this? I vote yes!
No one in their back-court can play defense. Idk really. I don’t why any team would take shump at this point in time. May be if we took Okafor off their hands, they could take Shump off ours.

Irving has shown he is a total tool. We knew when Irving was selfish with the ball, and now he can’t handle being Robin to LeBron , so he has advanced into high schoolish
behavior. It’s actually quite sad and pathetic. Never liked the pompous Duke athletes until Irving, but he has shown his true blue Dukie narcissism
Yep – it’s all so unnecessary and sad. To make it worse, his is the only jersey I own.
I never purchase jerseys, mostly because it’s just not my thing, but also because players seem to leave Cleveland scorned.
Get over it. No one trolls are bad as Lebron. He is the “King” of trolling.

I wonder how other all star players that hasn’t had the opportunity to reach the finals and would do whatever to get there feel when they see Kyrie asking to be traded to the Knicks? And I’m being serious.
This makes Kyrie lamer than Durant:
Durant can’t beat the Dubs, and joins them.
Kyrie can’t beat the Dubs, largely due to his own poor play, and goes and gets high with them and makes fun of the Cavs who actually tried to win.
Be nice if we could trade Kyrie for Durant.
Exactly, I totally agree with you on this. To me
he is being such a fool, he is hurting his trade value and more important for him his hurting his brand.
This guy couldn’t wait for Kyrie to leave the team lol.

ESPN will report this as the entire city of Cleveland burning Kyrie’s jersey. ?
For sure ????
This dude is made of glass:
https://twitter.com/AmicoHoops/status/891794905588260864
lol, him and griffin will fit right in together
PER AMICO HOOPS —CAVS / SUNS WAITING UNTIL AUG 3RD TO ANNOUNCE THE TRADE KY FOR BLEDSOE AND JACKSON DUE TO JACKSON HAVING TO WAIT 30 DAYS FOR ROOKIE CONTRACT—SAME AS WHEN LOVE / WIGGINS TRADE WAS MADE —–LET’S HOPE THAT RUMOR IS TRUE ….MAYBE (GM ) LEBRON ALREADY KNOWS AND HAS BLEDSOE (ROSE ) ALREADY IN VEGAS GOING THRU SOME REPS / CHEMISTRY
??I hope you are right!
Interesting. Will we keep or move Jackson? Do we get to dump the Shump?
I so hope this is true, even though Amico is as untrustworthy as it gets. I love Jackson, warts and all. He could be actually worthwhile this year as a perimeter defender, at least against non-elite players…
I’m no longer a Kyrie fan. Hope the guy’s career goes in the bucket. Get a good return for him, and then let LeBron embarrass him whenever they match up. Clown will never make a deep playoff run.
KY—-DON’T POKE THE BEAR MAN—–HOPING WE CAN GET TRADE DONE WITH PHOENIX FOR BLEDSOE/ JACKSON …STILL SEEMS LIKE THE BEST TRADE SO FAR… THE SOONER THE BETTER ….WITH ALL THE HYPE AND FOOLISH/ IMMATURE THINGS KY HAS SAID AND DONE JUST DON’T THINK LEBRON CAN ” JUST LET IT GO ” AND WHEN THEY DO MEET THAT IS WHEN LEBRON WILL DO HIS “TALKING TO KY “—-ACTUALLY THINK IF WE MAKE THIS TRADE WE BECOME A BETTER TEAM AND DON’T DISCOUNT LEBRON WORKING OUT WITH D ROSE IN VEGAS …THEY ARE DOING MORE THAN JUST WORKING OUT ON THE COURT… Read more »
I hear ya!
I actually think this might be for the better. It might put LeBron into a “gonna make it in Cleveland” frame of mind. OK, maybe I am dreaming here.
Honestly, good riddance. Please hurry up and get rid of him. Thanks for the shot, but see ya. We’ll be better without ya.
Hey guys, please watch the language. I realize I sometimes walking this line, but we do want to keep this place PG.
Yep
Good to see Cols checking in. I was worried that he might have jumped of a glacier or something.
How about a 4 team trade…Also put Josh Jackson on the Cavs in this scenario just can’t trade the rookies on the trade machine yet… http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y8ml67fg
Kevin Love back to the wolves? Not likely.
Now Kyrie is really pissing me off:
https://www.google.com.pr/amp/ftw.usatoday.com/2017/07/nba-cavaliers-steph-curry-dance-lebron-james-kyrie-irving-trade-request/amp
Who cares. They’re little children.
Yup – and being made to look like it by LBJ. He sets the standard they can’t measure up to.
Front page on Google.News:
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2724667-steph-curry-does-lebronchallenge-next-to-kyrie-irving-at-harrison-barnes-party
He’ll be a legendary Knick. Starbury-esque.
I’m baffled by this… I understand it’s a wedding and I’ve gotten plenty drunk on a few, but this is beyond stupid on his part.
Btw f*ck Curry too. B!tch azz cried his way to Durant along with Dray cause they knew they couldn’t get it done without them.
+10000
I don’t understand Curry’s attitude, like you just said he feels like he is at LeBron’s or Durant’s level and obviously he isn’t. Can’t stand that punk! ?
What’s funny too, is that they (Warriors) can’t take LeBron’s name out of their minds lol.
Kyrie just officially blew up his relationship with LBJ. Making fun of LBJ in video with Steph Curry. Unreal. Crazy immature.
Kyrie should know best out of all people… don’t piss LeBrob on off. It won’t work out well for you.
LeBron***
Yikes! He always seemed a bit immature, but this is over the top. He will not be at any Cavs’ event ever.
Where did you see this?
Cols might OD when he hears it.
It’s floating around Twitter. I actually don’t have stomach to watch it.
Main thing I care about is that this is hurting his trade value. F*cking bozo!
I do not believe that Lebron playing the low-post more is the answer. The hybrid zone defense now allowed in the NBA is called the anti-Shaq law for a reason. And the way the game is officiated now does not allow post-up players to thrive – defenders can’t even breathe on shooters and perimeter players but are allowed to abuse low-posting players. Dwight Howard is actually younger, bigger and stronger than Lebron and look where he is now. Howard has been irrelevant as early as 5 years ago. A big part of his massive decline is the way people are… Read more »
I’d agree. LeBron’s offense isn’t the problem. It’s the bench and the defense that lost the finals.
FWIW, I really like Dragic as a player. Still pissed at Kyrie. If he’d have something sooner we would have CP3 or PG13.
Does anyone have any insight on Josh Jackson? Does he project to be a good prospect?
Defensively, yes, and he’s an athletic slasher. No one can say if his shot will ever get acceptable. I like him a lot, and I definitely want him.
One thing experts have said about Jackson is his competitive edge. He’s a guy who’s unafraid of being challenged and wants to be great. That’s probably an underrated thing given his immense athleticism… it should give teams confidence that he’ll be willing to work on that jumper.
James’ unwillingness to play in the post much, or defend bigs (at least in the regular season), so he can reduce wear & tear, is a legit criticism of his career. However, look what happened to Bird’s back. Bird won 3 titles, had the best record in the leage 6 times, averaged 10 rpg, was just as good a passer (less ball dominant), and never had one minute of chill mode. His back also went out and he only played 13 seasons (I think). Still has a legit case as the #1 SF of all time.
Bird was broken before his 10th season. Sure he was never in chill mode but he always took on the least defensive assignment. It’s blasphemous to critisize Larry Legend but you may be surprised that Bird actually had more failures than Lebron, both in the regular season and in the playoffs. Chill mode or not, Lebron blows away Birds numbers and career achievements
both in the regular season and in the playoffs and yet Lebron is far from done.
Hope Cavs get a very PG for Kyrie so Lebron finally plays with a bonafide PG like never before in his career. I can see him put best numbers to date. Even if Dragic is not top 10 PG of the league, may be still best PG that Lebron ever played with. Plus it will help Kevin Love too. Kyrie is more like an off guard, Iverson like.
Would be interesting since LeBron is so ball dominant himself and can play the 1. LeBron would need to be more committed to playing in the post.
Playing in the post will create matchup issues for the other team. But:
LeBron is NOT the best power forward ever.
LeBron IS the best passing forward ever.
Primarily you want to take advantage of his best aspects.
LeBron not wanting to play the post is rather surprising and annoying, specially since he’s so good at passing.
The triangle offense with him, Love and Kyrie should had been phenomenal. Unfortunately Coach Lue (and LeBron?) used Love as the interior piece as opposed to LeBron. Yes, Love is also a great passer and a #4 but LeBron would had had the upper hand in the matchups down low. Instead we got the force feed to Love which plenty of time ended in a hard/difficult shot for Love.
This thread starts with a false premise, which isn’t surprising because its the WF. Kyrie is the perfect PG for LeBron. LeBron’s most elite skill is his ability to pass and manage a game with his IQ. What he needs from a PG is someone who can space the floor, and who can takeover the offense for stretches to give him a rest. Kyrie can also run PnR’s with LBJ, which they did a ton.
Kyrie’s main weakness is a lack of effort on D.
doesn’t have to play post that much just play more off the ball, pick and roll etc.. Not having to handle the ball as much might also allow him to expend more energy on D.
I’m sure Bill Simmons is putting out Kyrie for Rozier trade machine nonsense, as he attempts to say it’s a fair trade for Cleveland.
The silence is deafening.
I almost want the Cavs to trade Kyrie for Dragic/Winslow, just so I can watch a Kyrie-Saint Weirdo backcourt feud again.
Oh I know. Would be cosmically hilarious… despite it coming at our expense. The only thing that would rival that would be Wiggins getting traded back to Cleveland.
Listened to this podcast this morning, this is solid as always Tom. Except for the one guy comparing Calderon to Ginobili…

Wtf… Thanks for sharing. Kids nowadays are “smarter” than us in the sense that they have access to so much information quicker and are asked to do more complicated things at an earlier age -for example if a 6 year-old could work his way around a computer as early as 20 years ago he would be considered a genius, now he is considered, I don’t know, alive-, but it is much more difficult to check things like the validity of the source and get around the simple fact that if enough people say something then it “must be true”. Somehow, Brooklyn “nets” 8 more wins…
The Kay effect. I love this trade.
I like this trade also.

Nice job Tom and Mark. Well paced, and on topic. Perfect sports radio which is nonexistent in Cleveland.
thanks Cory
Cavs should keep Irving. None of these trades make them better next year. Jyrie can play Steph to a draw. If Warriors have bad injury luck or Tristan learns how to make quick plays with the ball, Cavs can win
People have got to stop with the “we need versatile defenders, like Boston. Love and Kyrie arent even that great”. Stop listening to wannabe basketball experts on espn and watch the playoffs. Multiple all stars win. Not jae crowders
Love is great all year, all the way through the ECF. Then he gets completely obliterated in the Finals. Blown off the floor. Crowder would be more useful in the finals than Love.
It doesn’t matter who is on the team, Lebron is taking the Cavs to the Finals. When he gets there, he needs guys who can hold their own.
He played well in four of the five. The foul trouble in game five threw him off.
And in 2016 Love played well when he wasn’t sitting or easing in back in from his concussion.
Love was the only one who showed up besides LeBron in games one and two. He was arguably the Cavs’ best defender in the series. He averaged 18.5 points 11.5 rebounds 2.8 steals and a block in 32.5 minute a night as the Cavs’ 3rd offensive option and shot 43% from three in games 1-4 but he did have a bad game 5. He did not get “obliterated.”
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/l/loveke01/gamelog/2017#38-41-sum:pgl_basic_playoffs
Those numbers are great, but Cavs lost those games, and when Lebron steps off the floor, the result would be the same as if some third string rookies were out there. Love isn’t worth the salary, he can’t hold down the fort when Lebron is resting. Warriors wreck him with their high motion offense. In the finals, he can’t post anyone up. All he can do is get defensive rebounds and spot up for corner threes. Other guys in the league could do that for the Cavs and have a more physical presence, on a smaller salary. Too often he’s… Read more »
Alternative facts galore
Rewatch the first 4 games of the finals and you will want to delete your post trashing KLove
Get rid of K-Love too. Go hyper versatile, hyper athletic, hyper defense.
And get worse? More athletic means jack if you can’t score.
Sure. Get rid of LeBron too. Maybe leave the NBA and join an Ultimate Frisbee league! What fun!
No way. I expect KLove’s scoring to rise to around 25/game if Irving isn’t on the team. I was absolutely sick of seeing Irving fail to get Love the ball in the second half after Love would put up big numbers in the first. If we would trade Love we would simply get hyper bad too.
I’m expecting a huge year for Love too, no matter who Irving is dealt for.
Love is more important to this team than Irving. Irving has an elite, maybe best ever, talent at scoring. Just incredible talent. And when you need that in a game, there is no substitute. But day in day out, at every part of the game, Love gives you more. I don’t want to lose Kyrie because of what he does well, even with his limitations. But Love is a better all around player. Don’t forget about 2015. The loss of Love hurt us way more than the loss of Irving. Delly, of all people, was able to give us nearly… Read more »
Apparently, Indiana wanted Love+unprotected picks for PG. Cavs wanted protection on picks, smart move.
Some interesting take of Pippen on Kyrie,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GZMeOLaykY
Also ESPN: So far, these are among the teams who’ve made offers to the Cavaliers for Irving, league sources tell ESPN: The San Antonio Spurs, LA Clippers, Phoenix Suns, Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks and Miami Heat. ”
Wonder what spurs have offered, I have to think Aldridge.
Also, news that Lebron is working out with Rose, Westbrook and Bledsoe.
I’ve read that the Celtics are supposedly offering IT, Crawder and some picks for Kyrie.
????
I’d trade him for 1983 Larry Bird. Make it happen, Danny!
And one of those picks
I do not take IT under any circumstances. We’re already trying to salvage something out of Felder. Crowder, Brown and Smart, plus picks, or go pound sand is my response.
Of course they are. No doubt lots of teams offer a package of so-so players in case the Cavs have a brain fart and bite. The Celts actually have the picks to make it happen, which you would do if you thought LeBron is gone.
I don’t know why Gilbert didn’t just tell kyrie “no”. Not going trade you. See you in training camp.
How would that work?
About like he described it above. Worked with hakeem. Worked with Kobe.
Different worlds. Players have much more power now. Even more than Kobe.
So what do you think Kyrie will do if no trade is made? Not show up? That would hurt BOTH his trade value, and any future long term deals.
Even if he did show up, there’s no way we win the title without team unity.
If Kyrie nearly asked for a trade right after they won the title, they probably DID win it without team unity.
Exactly!
If we don’t have a good offer for him that’s exactly what Gilbert should do. I’d rather keep Kyrie and let him be mad than trade him for pennies.
Exactly, if the Cavs don’t get a solid offer then don’t trade him. He needs to perform and play well if he wants to keep his brand’s name solid.
A couple of general comments:
1. What about Kevin Love? Does management send him flowers and a box of chocolate with a note that says “No hard feelings. Just business.”
2. Maybe this personal animosity was what prevented the Cavs’ offense (as good as it was) from achieving its full potential. Kyrie and Lebron didn’t utilize what would have been a devastating pick and roll game much at all.
I think Love knows this. This didn’t happen. All Cavs brass has to say is, “yeah, that story was BS.”
Most players are mature enough to understand that from time to time there will be trade rumors involving you. Love knows this. As for the animosity? There wasn’t any between Irving and James or didn’t seem to be at all until Kyrie demanded a trade. They seemed to genuinely respect and like playing together. There are quotes from Irving from not too long ago stating this.
I certainly didn’t see the animosity. Kyrie is not behaving rationally. Very disappointing.
Love is one of the more professional stars in the league. He was on the other end of this in Minny and handled it well.
Woj dropped today: a George for Irving trade was on the table and the Cavs balked
Because we thought we had Irving for 2 more years.
Yeah. Cluster is what I’m saying. We’re trying to talk ourselves into Bledsoe. PG is better than anything we’ll get now.
Yep. But all reporting indicates Koby has a good idea of what he wants and he doesn’t seem like he wants to settle.
We’re either going to settle or not trade him. There is nothing out there of equal value to Paul George
Damn. LBJ, PG, and Love could very well beat the Warriors
Not without a guard to counter curry.
Yes, that would certainly be an issue.
Delly countered curry. Curry has not been a problem in a single finals game for three years. Paul George was an upgrade. No one available is now.
*waits patiently for warriorsfan to come refute this post
He can’t. Curry was a nonfactor for three years running. Green, Durant, Livingston, Iggy – hell, Bogut, Mcgee and Zaza were more trouble for the Cavs than curry ever was.
ya he was totally non factor, these averages meant nothing in last year’s finals.
27ppg, 9 apt, 8 rpb, 2.2 spg
There is not a single game in which you take out Curry and replace him for the entire game with Livingston or any other player on that squad and you’d have a different outcome. Not one of the 18 games in the last three finals did he make a difference. I’d love to see the difference in plus/minus for him over those 18 games with him on and off the Court. I’d be shocked if it was even a point in the positive. I say this as an incredibly anxious fan for every one of those games. I never felt… Read more »
The only time I was concerned about Curry was in the last 30 seconds of Game 7 in 2016. I thought he might pull off some miracle 3. He missed twice. I’m as critical of Cols as probably anyone on this blog, but if anyone on that team was a fraud, it was Curry. 2 time MVP my ass. Wasn’t even the best player on his own team in any of those three finals. Hell, he wasn’t even the Second best player on his team. Take out Durant, you have problems. Take out Green, you have problems. Take out Curry?… Read more »
Anything I say may sound biased, so here is from other sources. he doesn’t have to be a difference maker by himself because the series was not even close and warriors point margin was huge. An article from a neutral guy on Curry’s impact in finals. http://www.sportingnews.com/au/nba-au/news/nba-finals-2017-cavs-vs-warriors-game-1-stephen-curry-kevin-durant-shooting-transition/1c3ckst7iszl018jnekrqzia1n And from a cavs site. http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2017/06/cleveland_cavaliers_altering_d.html “Durant might be in line for Finals MVP at the moment, but Curry is the player the Cavs are most concerned about, believing he’s the centerpiece of Golden State’s offense, delivering a gravitational pull everywhere he goes.” Or check this image. http://img.bleacherreport.net/img/images/photos/003/429/863/hi-res-57df943c872ad3cfb736f857a67a7ad2_crop_north.jpg?1433781741&w=630&h=420 Bottom line, the attention that… Read more »

while I agree that Curry didn’t really elevate his game and that the Cavs sorta contained him over the last 3 years, the fact is that the Cavs made it a point not to let him or Thompson have space even off the ball. Almost worked in 2015 with a totally banged up squad. Worked in 2016. Last year it meant Richard Jefferson got to hang out on Durant island and that was all she wrote. Curry’s “gravity” kind of persists even after he goes to the bench. The Cavs weren’t changing up their rotations when Livingston came in. Livingston… Read more »
Cmon man, don’t be so shortsighted. The Cavs clearly shaded their defense towards him and Klay early on, which helped open up Durant’s game much more. Curry hit timely shots during 3rd quarter shots when we just got killed. He outrebounded TT for god’s sake. Really don’t feel like defending Curry any more, but to act like he didn’t have an impact in any of the three Finals is just idiotic.
There are many ways to show Curry’s impact. He has put numbers in addition to intangible that doesn’t show in numbers. For example, look at KD’s playoffs stats last two years. Very identical except that
TS%
15-16 54.2 with Westbrook
16-17 68.3 with Curry
KD pretty much averaged same ppg in 4 FGAs less. Curry has a lot to do with it.
Name one game one he was the difference.
lol, sounds like even you are laughing at that.
Yeah. That’s not new news.
Bledsoe and Jackson for Kyrie is my ideal trade scenario. We could use Jackson to nab a star at the deadline. Even if you keep both, I think we are a better team moving forward.
It’s OK, but I want shump/dudley swap too.
Yeah. Bledsoe and Jackson seems underwhelming. Bledsoe is fine, but Jackson? 56% free throws in college scares me. That’s supposed to be much better indicator if a dude can shoot or not.
That’s why you need the Dudley/Shumpert swap…. better defender (mostly team) and near 40% career three point shooter.
Yeah you definitely need that.
I have been watching in terror everything unravel the past few weeks. It all started with the mishandling of the Griffin situation and it went only downhill from there. It is plausible that next year we could be even worse than 2011. Lebron could leave this suddenly very toxic environment (he is partly of blame, but that doesn’t matter at this point) and Kyrie will likely net us a underwhelming return if/because he continues to behave like a spoiled brat and everyone outside of Cleveland realizes that his defense and maturity are as breathtaking as is his shotmaking but in… Read more »
I believe that’s the underlying message in the Cavs “All In” marketing campaign. They literally go all in for LeBron knowing the state of the remaining team if he ever leaves.
That is fair, but in an ideal world where Kyrie puts the team first, he embraces the “secondary” role he is anyway best suited for at this point in his career, continues to learn from one of the best that ever played the more subtle things it takes to win at a high level -physically and mostly mentally- and when Lebron walks in the sunset he is a full grown man and leader able to carry this franchise to success beyond Lebron. In the same ideal world, the front office that brought a title after so many years would be… Read more »
Absolutely. Kyrie is your typical millennial douche. I used to defend him but I’m done. I appreciate the excitement he brought to the team after that god awful 2011 season, and I’ll never forget the Shot. But maybe it’s time for him to move on.
Well guess what? After a contending run, you have a rebuilding phase. Happens to everyone not named San Antonio, so be prepared. Hopefully you can get through it quickly. Generally a key is stinking for a couple years to get some top picks.
I’d probably do this trade if Memphis was a) interested and b) would throw in a pick and maybe find a way to get Tony Allen to the Cavs as well…

A twitter geek question by someone. Which one player in the NBA can make Cavs equal or favorites with Dubs if joined Cavs ?
https://twitter.com/16WinsARing/status/890741273111298048
Kawhi, James Harden, Anthony Davis ??
I say AD.
Either Kwahi or AD but only if Kyrie stays and more importantly, if he is willing to share the ball.
Kawhi or AD, agreed. Kawhi would help slow them down on defense. AD would absolutely feast on GS. He should go for 30+ per night.
Kawhi for sure. I respect the Warriors and the way they built themselves. They might be the greatest team ever, and I think that because last year’s Cavs team would’ve have beaten damn near any Western Conference team over the past decade.
Yeah, I think Kawhi will make it close and perhaps only one player that will bridge gap but the underrated part of warriors team is the bench depth. They added a player who is #2 best shooter in catch and shoot 3pt last year in Swaggy plus Omri Cassipi, to the bench that already has Iguodala, Livingston, West, McGee and McCaw. Point is, GM does a great job adding talent for cheap.
Interesting question, but Kawhi. He would fix a lot of what the Cavs need at one stroke.
Durant
A clone of LeBron.
If only kyrie has the humility or unselfishness of curry, I still think that we can compete against the dubs and win some more titles. I think the king will eventually hand over his reigns to you 2 to 3 years from now. Wake up dude.
From what I’ve read so far, it seems that the Cavs FO will not trade Kyrie unless they get a great deal for him and I totally agree with that.
If it’s true that Kyrie has been avoiding the Cavs FO then he is commiting a huge mistake. He needs to understand that others FO’s from around the league are watching his childish attitude and that could hurt his career in the long run.
I’ve kicked everything around in my head, and that kind of what I prefer. Numero uno: if feelings can be mended-perfect. Bron, Irving and Love should be even better together next year than they were. If the Suns make Jackson available, with Bledsoe and the Suns own 2018 pick that would work. If not, hold out for the Minnesota deal of Teague and Wiggins.
I kind of hate Teague and Wiggins. I have never liked Teague and Wiggins just seems like Kyrie all over again in attitude. I’d prefer Smith/Barnes from the Mavs, fox and picks, or even Melo and picks.
Yup…. Definitely would take Smith/Barnes, or Fox/Jackson, or Melo and whatever.
