The Point-Fourward: Constructing Deconstruction

The Point-Fourward: Constructing Deconstruction

Four things I’m thinking about the NBA universe…

Irving’s ceiling floats.

A hard surface with no edge

like his discus world.

LeBron spoke his mind.

For the “so-called-president”

there was no sub-tweet.

They got together.

Was it about politics

or an exit plan?

Invariably

we know less than we believe.

Faith is Arrogance.

1. In this poem, the author is discussing the fickle nature of Kyrie Irving’s potential. While there is certainly a limit to Irving’s other-wordly talent, it is very difficult for the author to get a grasp on just where that limit lies. Kyrie’s mercurial nature clouds the author’s perception as the point guard probably believes that Mercury is also flat.

A floating solid with no edge. A world on top of this one. For Uncle Drew, what is up may also be down. Does he believe he dribbles frisbees? (note: with that handle, he probably could)

2.  In this haiku, LeBron’s history of passive aggressive sub-tweeting is thrown into new light. Is LeBron James only passive when regarding matters of comparatively little consequence? More ink has been spilled over previous poetic twitter ramblings regarding fitting in and/or out. The clarity of his recent message doesn’t lend itself to extensive deconstruction.

3. Tony Rizzo reported that Kyrie Irving and LeBron James met in Miami. Though unlikely, it is possible that they were brainstorming for an episode of Room 104. Perhaps they were truly discussing their playing futures, detailing the next six years of their respective lives down to the meal.

This haiku explores the multiple levels of the word “politics” and its import in modern culture. Is each move and counter-move to be played out in “House of Cards” manner, exacting and savage in its planning? How long is patience powerful before it becomes inaction? Or were they discussing governmental politics, potentially crafting a unified message against recent American atrocities? How much damage does a political battle cause before precipitating progress? Is it an exit plan out of Cleveland, America, or out of the/their conflict?

4. In this poem in haiku form, the author is pretty straight forward. In the NBA Off-Season and in life, we luxuriate in conjecture. Cotton candy for the mind. When we fixate on the size of the cotton and not its density, we display what is truly important to us. The show. The extravaganza that masquerades as sustenance. There is rarely a kernel of truth in faith. More often than not, we are only left with a teeth rotting goo that flies through our bodies without supplying any real nourishment. The color of the cotton is irrelevant. We are sick.
