Happy Trails, Kyrie. With the news of Mr. Irving’s trade to the Celtics we sounded the conch and Tom Pestak, Ben Werth, Nate Smith, and EvilGenius assembled in the podcast booth to break it all down. We all gave our knee jerk reactions to the trade and gave our yays or nays to Isaiah Thomas, Jay Crowder, (up the) Ante Zizic, and the Nets’ 2018 draft pick. We also discussed the enigma that is Kyrie Irving and whether this trade makes the Cavs better in the long term and short term. Playing the imp’s advocate was Tom Pestak who held out hope that Isaiah Thomas and Jay Crowder could improve the Cavs. The rest of us were more… skeptical.
Other topics included: are the Cavs’ still a finals team? What are LeBron’s plans for the Summer of 2018? (Including some inside dirt on the Lakers situation). What is going to happen with the rest of the roster? Can Boston beat the Cavs in the playoffs, (or are they even the East’s second best team anymore)? Are the Cavs’ still a finals team? We take on all this and more as we wish a fond farewell to Uncle Drew.

Anyone else think GoT jumped the shark this year?
Interesting take, Nate. I actually think this year has been a return to form and that GoT jumped the shark either last season or the one before. No wasted story-lines this season (why they wasted any of their precious time in years past on a love story with a eunuch [Greyworm] is beyond me). Very tight season this year. And I think the show even looks better than it ever has: production design, cinematography, for example. All those things have been there, but the writing and tone of the show has lost Martin’s dark edge and its ability to take you high and low. The writing’s been awful and the pacing of the season finale was abysmal. It depserately needed editing and the dialogue isn’t nearly what it has been. It is better than the dorn season, but this season seems like it was story boarded by a junior high dungeon master.
A lot less nudity this year too. It’s okay to say that that’s one of your reasons why it’s not as good. : )
I didn’t even think about it. But yeah. It’s been a very chaste season.
Just so many bizarre writing decisions in that finale: that completely boring conversation between Sam and Bran confirming the biggest reveal of the show. I mean how do they do that between two of the shows most boring characters. Also, how does Cersei not kill Bronn out of spite in front of Tyrian and Jamie. That would’ve been brilliant.
I gotta say this, though, the finale did keep me on edge as to who was gonna buy it this episode. That’s something the show has done well, going back to Ned Stark & the Red Wedding. There were times when I legit thought, Tyrion’s gonna die, Jaimie’s gonna die, Theon’s gonna die. Now, maybe the fact that they didn’t shows them playing it safe, but the fact that I wasn’t sure-to me-told me how well this show was constructed. So, six more episodes left … and 48 more comments!

I love Delly, but hard to believe Bucks would send us both their PG’s. Brogdon and Middleton and 1st rounder would help with the Warriors matchup. Also, happy to help with the IT2K push.

My guess is we get nothing, and it’s today or tomorrow.

What I would love: we void the trade and do a deal with Bucks…and put our “rival” Celts in a very bad place
What I would like: Celts throw in another 1st rounder….lottery available

There’s buzz again about the Milwaukee offer. I’m wondering if there’s any way to get Delly back from them along with that? If so, I’d be sold.
For the record- according to Basketball Reference- Malcolm Brogdon’s nickname is “Humble Moses.”

I very much like Brogdon & Middleton as players. 40%+ on triples. Size. Grit. If the Bucks had a lotto pick that could land another star player, I’d do it.
I’m so close to being sold on that deal, but the lack of a star or potential for a star really dings it. With that said, Middleton would be a great fit here.
Brogdon doesn’t excite me at all though.

I’m in on IT2K. Out on Kyrie playing for the Cavs again. Pick between the Bucks deal (Middleton, Brogdon, + pick) and the Celtics (IT, Crowder, Zizic, Nets pick + sweetener if there is one). I will take the latter, easily. As long as IT is full go by Jan/Feb.
