Preseason Live Thread: Cavs vs Bulls

Well, we get our full compliment of Cavs tonight, as they host the Bulls for a regular season tuneup game. Tonight and the regular season’s probably starting lineup: Rose, Wade, James, Crowder, and Love will take the floor at tipoff and according to ESPN‘s Dave McMenamin, Iman Shumpert will start the season (and this game!) as the team’s first sub when Derrick Rose goes to the bench in the first quarter. McMenamin also reported that Jefferson, Frye, Zizic, Osman, and Calderon will start the season “out of the rotation.” It doesn’t bode well for Osman and Jefferson, the two most likely players to be cut (or possibly traded, in RJ’s case), to get the roster down to 15 players. It’s as if the Cavs are actively trolling us here at CtB. Or maybe we’ve been practicing reverse psychology all along.
For the Bulls, they’ll be without Chris Dunn, who dislocated his finger and will be out 2-4 weeks. Starters look like Jerian Grant, Justin Holiday, Paul Zipser, Nikola Mirotic, and Robin Lopez. The Bulls are also missing Cameron Payne (right foot surgery), and Zach LaVine.
Look for the Cavs to give us glimpses at their regular season sets, and how the offense will work, and if spacing will be a problem (though this Bulls’ team shouldn’t be much of a challenge).

I don’t think a day will really matter that much. Plus they’d have to play on Friday against Houston, if they win.

Not only was there news about Iman Shumpert returning to the lineup today just six days after spraining his left foot, but Cavs coach Tyronn Lue said that Shumpert will be Cleveland’s first substitution off the bench when Derrick Rose comes out in the first quarter. Right now, these are the guaranteed contract guys out of Cleveland’s rotation: Channing Frye, Richard Jefferson, Ante Zizic, Jose Calderon and Cedi Osman.
I read the the warriors owner tried to do something disgusting with the trophy. What a sad sad team…
You can google it yourself since this is a family oriented blog.
Is this after 1st or 2nd championship. I have no interest on disgusting stuff that some put out there, like Delonte and Lebron issue. feel free to entertain yourself.

Rose and Green look incredible. Wade is feeling it too. This team is going to be great.
I know it’s preseason but I am not feeling it yet for this team. Maybe too many changes to connect with the players. I share the concern of many on floor spacing, and the probable drop off in three point shooting, which has carried the Cavs the last several years. And I don’t have confidence in Lue properly incorporating all the new players anyway. Lue’s answer to too many question is, “…..because I wanted to.” Hope this isn’t the year that James’ bionic body shows signs of wear. This lingering ankle injury is of course a concern. Great points. I share your concerns. The ankle bug is certainly making it’s way around Cleveland sports stars: Brantley, Garrett, Encarnacion, and LBJ.
I DO NOT! If the Cavs had Rose and Wade last year, they might have won it.
I wouldn’t be TOO concerned about the ankle yet. This happened during the preseason as opposed to regular season. Procedure is different. Way more cautious. Worth keeping an eye on tho.

To be fair, in the same interview Vardon is referencing, he also said that he actually liked coming off the bench because he gets the opportunity to more than just “run to the corners”.

Cavs are ready! I wasn’t sure after Kyrie demanded a trade to go shoot more on a worse team, but I’m sure now. It’s another Finals Guaranteed season as long as they stay reasonably healthy.
You mean they are guaranteed a trip to the finals in an even weaker Eastern conference. That’s quite a proclamation!

He still had plenty of moments where it felt like he was trying to do too much. He fortunately got stopped before he made a mistake and passed it off.
But think about it, if you really want Love to play C, would it not make sense to trade Love for a C, if available like Marc Gasol, Cousins, Favor or to less extent Brook Lopez or even Milsap, more of two way players. Those guys are older or won’t put numbers Love will put this year, also don’t think you want to rebuild with Love if Lebron leaves anyway, that didn’t work well for Minny.
If Bron leaves, they will clean house.
Jeff Green and Rose are awesome apparently. Man I’m so hyped for the season!!!!
