Live Thread: Cavs vs. Nets (#PickItUp)
2018-02-27Okay, this is going to be short and sweet because it’s going on midnight here in London and I’ve got an early plane to catch tomorrow…
Tonight, the Cavaliers play one of their more important games left on the schedule… not just because they need every win they can get for playoff positioning as the team’s new pieces continue the gelling process… but also because they’re facing the Brooklyn Nets. In case you’ve forgotten, the Cavs now own the much ballyhooed Nets pick (Nate’s even got a name for it, but I can’t remember with the late hour), so every loss dealt to Brooklyn increases the chances of getting more ping pong balls in this summer’s draft.
This game should be essentially found money for Cleveland, as they should be able to pick their collective game up (especially from three point land) and handle the surprisingly feisty Nets at the Q. Of course, nothing ever seems to go like we think it will in this Season of Why? So, expect a tough battle… even though Brooklyn is on the second night of a midwest back-to-back (they beat the Bulls last night to get to 20 wins on the season). One player update of note… Jeff Green will apparently sit out with lower back soreness… so no Uncle Jeff at the 5 tonight.
Prediction: The Cavs don’t allow the Nets to hit 21, as they pick up the victory… but maybe only win by a penny… 119-118.
Catch all the action on FSO starting at 7pm EST (that’s midnight GMT for me… so I probably won’t chime in), but as always you can share your thoughts below…
GO CAVS!
klove/ brewer connected rather well at minnesota
RE: Brewer; I believe he’s friends with Kevin Love too:

Lue has no balls and that’s why he’s so stuck up with tt and jr, even last night where he actually kept them out and therefore were able to close out the game, instead of saying that he played this unit because he thought they can be the most effective ect. He said “thy had both been out since middle of 3rd quarter ect”. Unreal!!! A coach with severe insecurities! No balls!!! No self confidence ! He’s our prob !! This is an unreal team of players . (Btw the Kevin love excuse is pathetic)
You aren’t wrong about the KLove excuse. This team has enough talent to compete and beat top ten teams even without Kevin. With him, they have a higher ceiling of course, but without him the roster still features young, athletic players who should be able to easily dispatch the likes of the Nets. That’s the frustrating thing and why that ire has turned to Lue post trade deadline. The front office has given him the tools. Anyone who watches more than a casual fan can now see Lue’s deficiencies pretty clearly. It’s one thing when your whole team can’t hit… Read more »

Ty Lue’s conclusion, “Looks like Tristan needs more minutes”…
look for this kid from Arkansas (GAFFORD )—STOCK TO CONTINUE TO RISE IN THE DRAFT—–could be a sleeper like GORBERT/ GREEK FREAK
A huge positive from yesterday’s game was watching Rodney Hood closing the game and play well all game. If he can continue to play this aggressive he can really be the X factor for the Cavs in the playoffs.
Agree. Only reason this game was close was lazy D & FT from Cavs. Offensively saw a lot to like against a spirited Nets D. I don’t expect domination from this Cavs team…yet.
Grizz/Suns tonight- somebody’s gotta win. Nets/Kings tomorrow.
I would love it if Nance could start, but he does seem to foul a bit too much to average 25+ minutes a game right now.
He could still start, though…wonder if Lue is too loyal to TT…
He loves his Vets to the bitter end.
Man. The wizards are so much better without John Wall. Would you give up the Nets pick for him?
Yes.
His contract is horrendous. Surprisingly, I’d say no.
I think he’s on par with Kyrie. Not the shooter that Kyrie is, but “usually” a bettter defender, and probably the fastest player in the league.
His contract + knees would be a huge stay away for me. His game isn’t going to age well unless he develops a solid jumper.
Yeah, I’m with you. That contract is awful…I don’t trust his health or his play, and he’s pretty cleary up his own arse to boot…
His health does concern me.
Honestly think he’s really overrated.
Yes. He has won 1 playoff game his entire career.
The Nets pick will be extremely valuable. Could change the course of the franchise for the next 6-7 years. Both by keeping it or by trading it. Not sure where all the Anthony Davis rumors are coming from, but he’s the only one I would include it in a trade for. There’s some serious talent in this draft.
Kevin Love and whomever they get with the Nets pick for Davis would fit under the cap . . . that’s a much tougher one. I don’t think Pelicans do it though.
It’s hard to see a scenario where it makes sense for both teams. Wall can’t be traded until July 26 so this would be the same situation as 2014 when the Cavs traded Wiggins for Kevin Love, except for a guy who plays the most talent-rich position and makes double on a contract that runs through 2024. Even in 2014 Gilbert almost certainly wouldn’t have made the trade if LeBron didn’t make it a condition to his return. Things are a lot different now, and I don’t think trading whomever they get with the Nets pick for Wall is something… Read more »
i admit i could taste the gunmetal on my lips; but we did it.
tt has an amazing ability to defend literally neither player in a pick and roll
Also an uncanny ability to be the only player on the team with a negative +/-
This is probably the best evidence that Nance is effective. that’s a lot of minutes.
Yep. You’re better than curry KD.
wait, we’re getting Anthony Davis? Is this serious?
Uh. No

Jabari Parker looks… Explosive
Watching too. Surprisingly fast
Actually looks in better shape than I’ve ever seen him
He is far more athletic than I thought he was when he was drafted. Had some monster dunks last year before he got injured.
Was dunking all over people.

I like the rotation in the 4th tonight. I think lue has bipolars
Hope the Nets got a hot shooting game out of the way with this loss…maybe they can have a team 40% next game…
Just realized James only had 1 turnover. Cavs just 11. Stone hands led the team with 3 in a mercifully low 22 minutes
