Live Thread: Cavs vs. Spurs
2019-04-07Well, this is it folks. The last two games of the season. This afternoon the Cavaliers face off against the San Antonio Spurs for one last afternoon showcase. As Nate, EG, and Tom discussed in last week’s podcast, Kevin Love is likely shut down for the season. No need to risk any sort of damage to his shoulder. The Cavs can’t catch the last place Knicks for the best chance at Zion. They also can’t catch the Chicago Bulls to drop out of the top three lottery chance spots. That leaves the battle for second worst against the Phoenix Suns who have already shut down Booker to prevent too many wins. Luckily, the Spurs are a Western Conference playoff team so they shouldn’t have too much trouble putting away Cleveland. Hopefully it’s a fun game to watch as Collin Sexton seeks to further his case for All-Rookie first team. As always, Go Cavs!

History of NCAA tournament play being a good NBA predictor seems mixed at best. The fact that Culver looked pretty tentative against top competition *maybe* a good indicator? Kind of reminded me of how Andrew Wiggins played.
More of a Hunter guy. He is never gonna be a #1 guy. But he came up huge in the clutch and can contribute positively on both ends of the floor.
Outside the top 3, Hunter is my guy.
JOHNB–AGREE WITH YOU ON CULVER–HAVE BEEN WATCHINHG HIM ALOT THIS YEAR —REALLY THINK _( MENTIONED IN PREVIOUS POST )–HIS STOCK HAS DROPPED THE LAST 2 GAMES —-PRIMARILY DUE TO HOW PLAYERS RESPOND TO CRUCIAL TOUGH GAMES —–UNFORTUNATELT —DIDN’T THINK HE / CULVER SHOWED THAT—–SO YES THE 1ST 3 PICKS WILL BE ZION / MORANT / BARRETT —-4TH PICK I THINK MIGHT GO TO HUNTER WHO SHOWED UP BIG LAST NIGHT —AND HAS THE PRO BODY/ ATHLETICISM / SKILLS ————-CAVS REALLY NEED TO DO THEIR HOMEWORK / SCOUTING IF THEY DROP BELOW THE 3RD PICK
Last three games of tournament, Culver was 13/53 from the field for 25%. In the tourney he was 8/37 from three for 22%. Overall he was 49/130 for 37.6% from the field over six games. Pretty bad from the field and horrific from three. I am not sold on him ever being a decent shooter from range or him having all that high of a ceiling. Good defensive and team role player that can’t shoot? I wouldn’t take him over Barrett. No way.
The Cavaliers win! Wahoowa! Go Cavs!
Hey, two Cavaliers championships in four years — this one without Lebron!
Boy can this virginia team hit free throws
Game over… Hunter MVP.
I hate that call. It’s like Tom when he talks about the guy stealing coming off the bag for a split second. You’re splitting hairs.
Garbage call. The ball was knocked away, out of bounds. Doesn’t matter who may have somehow touched it at the last millisecond.
Agreed.
That never ever ever ever could be called in real time. It’s bogus. It has always been treated like continuation
Exactly. It was garbage.
The swings in this game are something.
Hunter is making himself some money.
Doesn’t have the handles that Culver or Barrett has, but he’s a superior shooter than either of them.
Also very long.
Yeah, that rebound over Culver in OT was huge… he’s a lockdown defender.
Hunter huge 3.
Man. That was a pretty lousy look at the end of that game.
Then Culver with a terrible off the dribble long 2 to start overtime, Hunter with a terrible turnover on the ensuing possession. College basketball is hard to watch.
At least they play hard.
Big time shot Hunter… he’s finally hitting his shots in the 2nd half.
Big time play, Culver. This is a great game.
I have Charles Barkley fatigue.
Love Billy Packard
Preferred Al McDonald…
Clark Kellogg >>>>> Players Only
Hubie Brown>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Players Only
LMAO… anything >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Players Only
Players only is so bad now. Seriously it was kinda fun the one time, but please God put an end to it.
Glad to actually see some defensive battles rather than run up and down the court jacking 3s…
IMO, Hilarious that anyone thinks Culver or Hunter are better than Barrett… Culver taking horrible shots, Hunter blowing easy shots he should make.
It’s not really about who’s ‘better’…it’s more about who will be better in the NBA. I think there’s plenty of questions about that.
Nah… not really.
We shall see, won’t we?
Culver has a good passing eye. I think he plays within their system, but he can do a lot more outside of it. One of the reasons I like him as a prospect. He’s going to need to improve his shot, though.
I like his defensive motor too.
He will be a defensive plus, I have zero doubt of that.
Pretty amazing that it was 3-2 at the 14:40 mark and ended up 32-29.

Was going to be a low scoring game no matter who got in from Final Four. Just gritty, long defensive teams.
At least they’re playing hard? Both teams leaving it out there.
These guys are going to play their tails off all night, I have no doubt about that…
Happy I got to attend this game and see the Channing festivities and RJ in the house.
Yeah, that looked really cool. Cavs did the right thing for a popular teammate and good guy like Channing.
CAVS HAVE GOT TO FIND A WAY/ POSITION TO KEEP CHANNING AROUND—–HE HAS BEEN A CAV FOR WHAT 3 YRS —-IN THOSE 3 YRS HE HAS HAD MORE OF A POSITIVE IMPACT THAN SOME HAVE DURING THEIR ENTIRE LIFETIME ——–THANK YOU SO MUCH CHANNING —–PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE US—-BE A CAV FOREVER !!!
I love the guy. I wish he’d stay around. My guess is there is no way he isn’t moving back to the Northwest. I believe he has a home in Washington or Oregon that he loves. Hope I’m wrong.

If the Cavs lose on Tuesday, they’ll finish with the exact same record (19-63) as the 2010-2011 team, the year after LBJ left the first time…
Thats a pretty funny stat considering the rookie point guards we drafted
JUST GOT IN—GLAD I DECIDED –(AND SO IS MRS NIOMAD )–TO STAY OUTSIDE AND WORK ON THE” HONEYDO” LIST –DID CHECK THE BOX SCORE –ANTE WITH ANOTHER SOLID PERFORMANCE–14 / 6 IN 17 MIN’S —THAT IS BEING EFFICIENT ——CPT BANDAID BLEEEDING “YUK ” ALL OVER THE CT
Oh geeze…that was about the worst way to spend my time today. Fun for channing to get a send off…terrible way to end the year if we play like this next game. No sharing the ball
Hornets up 17 on Detroit with Blake possibly injured.
Odds looking good that they will by trying on Monday.
Which means at worst we are looking at a coin flip with Phoenix.
Well, we just are not as good as the Spurs. But ugh.
Zizic playing well again.
If Charlotte beats Detroit today (they are leading as I type), then as long as one of Orlando (at Boston) or Brooklyn (at Indy) lose, they will have life on Monday in Cleveland.
This one is looking lost.

Kev to Sexton. Love gave up his starting spot to Channing.
Channing kicks it off with a triple!

RJ and Kev unveil a charicature of Channing. Nice.
